Mental Health Break: Myck Kabongo Dominates Hoophall Classic
I don't want to think about last night for a while, so let's regroup with a mental health break by checking in on 2011 recruit Myck Kabongo (St. Benedict's Prep), who stole the show this past weekend at the Hoophall Classic Invitational in Springfield, MA. The smooth point guard with great vision and a pure outside stroke more or less did as he pleased, scoring 20 points while picking up 12 assists and 6 boards.

Drove and finished with the left hand
I like this guy already
Big question though is...
what’s his free throw percentage?

Quickness
If you get to see a whole game, you should definitely tune in. He’s LIGHTNING fast. That was his biggest asset and what put him on the map. Now that he’s refined his J and point guard skills, he’s turning into a monster basketball player. Perfect comparison is Darren Collison, but Myck’s jumper is looking much smoother and more natural.
Any Info on 2010 Recruits?
Does anyone have any new/additional info on 2010 recruits? As far as I know, Tristan Thompson is the only commit. With 3 seniors leaving and the potential of at least one underclassman thinking he is ready for the NBA (although that doesn’t seem likely right now the way they are playing) or transferring to another school, it seems like we could be down by 4 going into next year with only one commit coming in. I know we were 1 over on schlorship players this year but with two going down to injuries and a couple others not showing they can contribute too much, it seems like we should have another one or two lined up to come in next year. Does anyone have any insight on the current recruiting status?
Cory Joseph
Is a 2010 combo guard who plays with Thompson at Findlay Prep (where Bradley played his senior year) who I expect to commit to UT eventually. Our big-man recruiting is lacking in a huge way, as we already have 4 perimeter players committed for the 2011 class. Hopefully we can somehow get 6-8 center Rakeem Christmas in the 2011 class, one of the top big men in the country.
Losing James and Pittman
Puts us in a tough spot next year with big men. Wangmene is going backwards, Chapman is a finesse guy, Hill is a spot role player, and… ? Gary Johnson is good in his own way, but not much of a power forward. Tough spot for us. We’re going to be a running, pressing team by default.

Peter, I am a huge Chapman fan. I love how he is always the hardest worker on the court, and I think he actually has a good mean streak. Plus, as you said, he has a good finesse game. I’ve been calling for him all year over Wangmene (who is a defensive/rebounding guy who is terrible at defense and can’t grasp the ball) and I loved what I saw against K-State.
Hopefully he becomes the first guy off the bench when Pittman is sucking (which has happened a lot lately), because he’s gonna come to play every game unlike Dex. I’d love to see him ready to go as a starter or the first guy off the bench backing Tristan next year.
At the other post spot, I expect Gary to be basically the same guy that Damion is this year.
The rotation of Gary, Tristan, and Chap next year should get us by nicely and allow an improved J’Covan, Doge, Bradley, and Hamilton to dominate the perimeter.
I Agree on Chap
I thought he was starting to show some promise last year and figured he’d be the first guy off the bench to spell Dex this year. Instead he has barely gotten off the bench. Give him a real shot and let’s see what he can do. We have already seen that Wangmene isn’t really the answer.
