VY named to his second Pro Bowl after Tom Brady, Big Ben and Philip Rivers pulled out. Still a nice honor after a great season for VY.

That's awesome

He’s better than those other jokers anyway. At least, he’s definitely better than Ben R. and Brady.

by tblog123 on Jan 20, 2010 10:07 PM CST reply actions

Definitely better then Roethy

You don’t have to be a good QB for a defensive team. See McElroy or Flacco

Uh, Big Ben is really good.

McElroy is mediocre, obviously, but Flacco has talent as well.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 21, 2010 7:10 AM CST up reply actions

REALLY GOOD?

Do you think Rothlessness is REALLY good? I think he is a good… pretty good at best QB. If you win too superbowls as a QB and dont come close to winning an MVP, you probably arent REALLY good and the reason your winning titles.

every QB with multiple rings as a starter is in the Hall of Fame.

“Good” QBs don’t win multiple Super Bowls, particularly not three years apart. He’s really good. And his numbers this year, 4328 yards, 26 TDs and 12 INTs were really good too.

by hayzer13 on Jan 22, 2010 8:53 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah

Big Ben is a stud. No one does the pump fake better than he does. He’s got the jewelry and that’s all that matters

Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

by kriess on Jan 22, 2010 11:41 AM CST up reply actions

I actually do think he's pretty good

Granted, the NFL’s pretty watered-down on QBs who are good year-in, year-out. Manning and Brady might be the only two of those. But Roethlisberger is pretty close, as might be Rivers, Rodgers, and McNabb, although Philly fans certainly complain a lot about McNabb.

by burntorangehorn on Jan 22, 2010 11:53 AM CST up reply actions

Good for him!

Although its kinda sad how big of a joke the Pro Bowl has become. No one actually wants to play in the game.

Sometimes the impossible can become possible if you're AWESOME!

No one actually wants to play in the game.

I don’t think that is much different than normal. It seems like you always have a lot of people dropping out. It might also get a little more attention since it won’t be a week after the football season is over. I think it is a good move. I might actually watch more than 2 minutes of it.

by UT_BKC on Jan 21, 2010 8:49 AM CST up reply actions

What a year for VY

VY starts the year in fotball purgatory (the owner had to force Fisher to play VY even after the Titans were 0-6), and ends up in the Pro Bowl.

by Gary D on Jan 21, 2010 4:10 AM CST reply actions

Congrats to VY

But for the fact that he didn’t even play in the first five games, he would’ve made the Pro Bowl without being an injury replacement, I’d bet.

Other Longhorns in the Pro Bowl: Brian Orakpo and Casey Hampton.

by burntorangehorn on Jan 21, 2010 8:22 AM CST reply actions

Wow. Didn’t realize he made it in as a rookie.

by UT_BKC on Jan 21, 2010 8:47 AM CST up reply actions

In other news

Merril Hoge still sucks.

Any word on Benson possibly making it?

by jc25 on Jan 21, 2010 8:42 AM CST reply actions

He'd be an injury replacement if he did

He, Charles, and Ricky all had decent seasons, but might fall just below the Pro Bowl threshold.

by burntorangehorn on Jan 21, 2010 9:03 AM CST up reply actions

Amazing that they'd fall below

“Decent” seasons? I thought they were exceptional, but perhaps my relativity is out of whack.

by TXinDC on Jan 21, 2010 9:36 AM CST up reply actions

Ced – #8 total yards
Ricky – # total 10 yards (also #7 TDs)
JC – Tied #11 total yards (also amazing #2 YPC) (and this is on less than half a season of starts)

Being top 10 is a little better than decent.

by UT_BKC on Jan 21, 2010 9:57 AM CST up reply actions

C'mon

You missed the point. No need to nit-pick the subjective adjectives. The point is that others had better seasons, at least in the minds of the voters.

I think you missed his point

Being in the top 10 in the league is better than decent

Again, it's a pedantic nit-pick of a subjective adjective

I didn’t miss the point. If you want to lay out a scale of what adjectives should be applied to what places in yardage and touchdowns, go right ahead. Maybe we’ll adopt the standard scale, and 1100 rushing yards will be classified with one adjective, while 1500yds. and ten touchdowns will be classified with another. But “decent” in this case was meant to mean good, but not as good as the guys who got into the Pro Bowl.

by burntorangehorn on Jan 21, 2010 11:58 AM CST up reply actions

blah blah blah subjective adjective

You could have easily said you agreed or disagreed.

by run Bevo run on Jan 21, 2010 4:32 PM CST up reply actions

And you could've concentrated on the point of my statement

Which again, was that those guys’ seasons weren’t as good as the seasons of the fellows who actually made the Pro Bowl, at least in the minds of the voters.

Do you agree or disagree?

by burntorangehorn on Jan 21, 2010 4:47 PM CST up reply actions

Are the voters the players?

I know the fans get 15 or 25% or something.

misread this

before my coffee and thought i would be seeing vy on sunday afternoons next fall on espn.

Something in the thread title made you think for a minute that he’d be on an NFL Countdown crew or something?

pro bowler

as in knocking down pins at Sunny Bowl. I certainly wouldn’t say he couldn’t go pro it if he wanted to.

by hayzer13 on Jan 22, 2010 9:26 AM CST up reply actions

Ah

Bowling. Got it.

In my case, I have only had one cup of coffee so far today, and it was half-caff. I usually like to plow through two full-strength cups while perusing whatever articles have popped up on BON since my last visit, but today dime’s BDR was a brief one, and there weren’t any others.

Ah well, it’s the off-season. Sort of.

by burntorangehorn on Jan 22, 2010 9:31 AM CST up reply actions

I was with you on the original question

I didn’t see it as a bowling.

Hyphens FTW

I read it as a player in the NFL Pro Bowl because the hyphen makes Pro and Bowler a compound adjective.

I have to admit, though, that thinking of VY in polyester pants and bowling shoes makes for a funny image.

Believe me, as a bowler...
