This game confuses me

I don’t share many BONers’ hatred of mid-majors, and I like both of these teams. I want both to win. And several minutes in, I still can’t make up my mind.

I think I'm rooting for Boise St.

I usually vote for anything Texas but I dunno….I guess I’m going for the “underdog” here.

I'm leaning Boise now as well

I was pleased by the pick-six, so I guess that settles it.

If BSU wins, I would love to see them romp, helping to set up a preseason top three-ish ranking. That’ll make things fun in the weekly blog poll posts.

by Hopkins Horn on Jan 4, 2010 7:40 PM CST up reply actions

That's pretty much what setlled it for me.

The pick-six made me smile..haha.

Boise State here

Spent a year there in the mountains, unbelievable white Christmases. Fell in love with the place.

Trust me, if you'd been my holiday dinner party

during our Big XII CG, with the biggest TCU asshole in the universe, you’d be rooting against the purple guys. I’m looking for his cell phone number now for some text action.

Rooting Guide for UT fans

-If you believe Texas will win, then it doesn’t matter. You might as well root for in-state TCU unless you have a personal grudge against TCU and/or an interest in Boise St.

-If you are concerned Texas will lose, then you root for Boise St. Boise is the lower ranked team and the one undefeated among UT, UA, TCU, Cincy, and BSU that most agreed had the weakest claim to be in the title game. If TCU wins and UT loses, then you will hear to no end that TCU and not Texas should have played Alabama. Rooting for Boise should not be hard. They were kind enough to beat OU a few Fiestas back. Plus TCU fans have not endeared themselves to UT fans, asking that the Horns kindly step aside and cut in line ahead of both UT and Cincy.

by Lincoln on Jan 4, 2010 7:44 PM CST reply actions

Go Boise!

enough with the “TCU is the best team in Texas bro!!” talk. I love it when whiny “slighted” teams get caught off guard in their bowl game.

by owenh on Jan 4, 2010 7:48 PM CST reply actions

Yeah...I like TCU

But a friend played there, and since then, all I’ve ever heard is how no one appreciates them and how overated UT is….
So, if TCU wins I’ll be happy for the school, but if they lose, I’ll get to do a whole lotta trash talkin’ :)

Either way, I win.

by UTLawGrad on Jan 4, 2010 7:52 PM CST reply actions

Rooting for Boise State

For the following reasons:
(1) Residual appreciation for BSU’s win over OU in ‘07
(2) Proximity of TCU to UT (read: many of their fans are douches AND Texas fans have to deal with them)
(3) They seemed to take it as a personal slight that we made the NC game and they didn’t whereas BSU seemed to take the slight for what it was: a systemic fault
(4) They’re so unbelievably whiny about being taken seriously vis a vis UT and yet they’re something like 1-28 against us since the late 60’s (with that win coming during one of Mackovic’s lose-a-palooza tours in the mid-90s) and they played us 2 years ago as a #19 team against the single worst Longhorn team since those Mackovic years and still lost by 21.

I don’t care about any stupid claim TCU would have to a national championship if they won. They can claim whatever they want to if they win. I want them to lose just to see them lose.

by billyzane on Jan 4, 2010 7:53 PM CST reply actions

TCU push-back doesn't concern me

TCU has always been an enigma to me. I grew up in DFW, lived in DFW several years post-college and worked in a Fort Worth-centric office in DC. Yet I know virtually nothing about the school (academic strengths, etc.) and can count all the TCU alums I can ever remember meeting on one hand and still have a couple of digits left over.

So if we lose and some TCU fans want to talk trash, I’ll never hear it.

I lived in Little Rock for 9 years, you are giving them way to much credit. Wish I was a grad. I am actually going back now that I have reached the age of 30 and know what I want to be when I grow up. :)

by NeTexHorn on Jan 4, 2010 8:15 PM CST up reply actions

It is actually better to go to college when you know what you want to be when you grow up. I got a BA and I’m not in that field. I taught myself another set of skills and worked my way into that field. Time to change again. Now I want to do something entirely different.

So you were smart to wait. :-)

that there is at least one person wearing at least one item of UT gear at every sporting event regardless of who is playing. I’ve seen it at every Notre Dame home football and basketball game, away games at Mich State and Purdue, a Cincinnati Bengals game, and a couple of Cincinnati Reds games.

I have to root for TCU to win this

As much as I don’t want to hear the little-brother whines about how they think they’re the best team in the state, I’d prefer it to be as difficult as possible for Kellen Moore to break Colt’s all-time wins record for a QB.

I just realized why I love Boise ...

They are ministers of doling out curses on behalf of Mack. They smote OU gloriously before. Now, they are smacking down the Frogs. Frogs defense is pretty good, but the team looks like they would get rolled by both Texas and Alabama (and probably Ohio State … definitely Fla.).

My image of TCU is what we did to them in the second half of ’07.

BSU players saying "#1" and holding up 1 finger

?? I hope they mean that in the sense of “we’re number 1, we beat them” and not “we’re number #1 because we beat TCU, screw the so-called BCS title game”

Damn, what happened to all that “TCU being the best team in Texas talk?”

hilarious ...

Interesting, but you can tell by comments like these that Texas has a chip on their shoulder. The only way to prove the doubters wrong is to beat Bama … and good.

Just watched the game on DVR

Pretty good game, it was on par for BSU. I was surprised by how over rated TCU was…guess they weren’t ready for the big stage!

Was it just me or did it seem like Dalton lost that game for them? Major interceptions, couldn’t scramble to save his life, the deep pass was a joke…I’m glad these guys didn’t go up against Bama!

Also, what if BSU gets a very favorable preseason ranking and goes undefeated again? Think they’ve got a case for the title?

Don't worry

BSU will have a top-ten pre-season rating, but will still hit the glass ceiling, like this year. It doesn’t matter whom they beat.

It was crazy to jump Oregon over BSU, and then TCU over BSU. It worked out, because it turned out all three got into the BCS, but BSU is a better program than most realize. They deserve a little more opportunity for upward mobility than they’ve been getting.
