Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

It's coming down to the wire for 2010 linebacker Jordan Hicks, who hopes to make his commitment in the coming weeks. The next several days may have a big impact on that eventual decision, as Hicks will receive in-home visits Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from his three finalists -- Ohio State, Florida, and Texas.

Even though Mack Brown has already taken his in-home visit with Hicks, Texas will have the final word in Hicks' recruitment, as Will Muschamp will visit with Hicks on Saturday, while Jim Tressel will visit for Ohio State and Steve Addazio, Scott Loeffler, and the new Florida linebackers coach will visit as representatives of the Gators. The interesting thing here, of course, is that Urban Meyer will not be making the trip, perhaps realizing that it's up to Addazio to sell the program to Hicks.

Hicks gives the expected vague answers about where his three finalists currently stand, but the combination of losing Charlie Strong and the uncertainty surrounding Urban Meyer probably puts Texas in the lead as rumors swirl about his desire to spent his college years in warmer weather than Ohio. If that is truly the case, there's a strong chance that Hicks becomes a Longhorn in the next two weeks.

Kind of looks unlikely that he'll enroll early

Since there are only 2-3wks. at UT, I think.

Speaking of which, GoBR, do you have any idea of who might enroll this month?

Doubt he's an early enrollee

I’ve heard that he wants to finish his hs basketball career so, if true, he’s definitely not enrolling early.

But a bold prediction

Hicks is wearing burnt orange next year. Mark it down.

Glad to hear about White

He seems like an ideal candidate for early playing time, Mike Davis aside.

Adrian White

the CB, not Darius the WR

by CMDR on Jan 6, 2010 9:46 PM CST up reply actions

He may be an early candidate too

with Marcus Davis getting the boot and possibly losing A. Williams to go along with both Browns after next year.

by Horncasting on Jan 6, 2010 9:47 PM CST up reply actions

That's what I meant

He got abused by Mike Davis, but he still sounds like a guy who could contribute early.

Just be sure the young man doesn't come

to Austin this week, thinking he can find warm weather.

Now if he wants hot, come to Austin in the summer. Say, late July/early August — when fall camp begins.

Jeffcoat

Its good to hear we’re getting the last word in with Hicks and more importantly that it’s coming from Coach Boom. That being said, any word on Jeffcoat? I haven’t heard anything from anyone about him and it seems like he and his family have been really good at playing things very tight. I just didn’t know if there was any reliable info on where he might be leaning.

He's given two interviews

in the last several days and it’s been rare for him to go on record. Unfortunately, he really didn’t say anything of note in either of them.

Still the same five

Oklahoma, USC, Arizona State, Texas, and Houston. He says he want to trim his list to three soon but that’s it.

Im pretty sure if we win Thursday our Stock will look pretty damn Good for Hicks aswell as Jeffcoat!

Hopefully with the Jeffcoat situation it helps slightly that Newton is on our team being that Nate and Jim were teammates on the greatest team on Earth!

Wilson

What were his change of plans? Going to be hard for him to crack the rotation without some spring practice reps

by Jhal2315 on Jan 6, 2010 7:54 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, that's a pity

Although with Jones, Acho, Okafor, and the rest of the depth, it still might be tough to crack the lineup. I did say shortly before Wilson committed that he was the UT offeree I most wanted to commit, and I stand by that. He seems like a home run, no matter what position he ultimately plays.

Apparently

what happened was that his counselor miscalculated the combination of his GPA and ACT score — they thought his ACT score was good enough with his C’s in Pre-AP classes being weighted as B’s. Then they found out that the NCAA doesn’t count Pre-AP C’s as B’s, so now he has to retake the ACT.

Hicks

Will still get to watch the game, right?

I remember Kennard had the same issue last year with a visit during our Rose Bowl game, but he said he DVR’d it.

Correct, Fiesta

Obviously my mind is on the game tomorrow.

Hicks

There was some extremely positive insider smoke a couple weeks ago but nothing has happened since. My optimism is fading. UF/UT coin flip.

Re:Hicks

I had been hearing for weeks that Florida had the last visit, which made me real nervous. Glad to hear Boom will actually get the final say. That’s a good sign.

If it comes down to who’s the last person to leave his living room, then that’s sad. I personally don’t believe that’s the case. I think he knows exactly where he wants to go.

Muschamp

not Brown. Brown has already down his in-home visit, so only Muschamp is going.

I live in Cinti

A bit dated news, but about a month ago I was at a UC football game with a couple of high school seniors from Lakota right behind me. They were both surprisingly matter of fact that there was no doubt … his pick would be Texas.
