Around SBN: UFC 146 Results: Junior dos Santos TKO's Frank Mir

After a monster junior campaign where the former Horn completed 54.4% of his passes and had 20 touchdowns against only 20 interceptions, Jevan Snead has decided to enter the NFL Draft. All kidding aside, I always liked Jevan but he really could have used another season in college.

Yes, but . . .

This year’s team was less talented than last year’s (despite those loony, Top 10 or close preseason predictions). Ole Miss severely missed The Blind Side LT; Snead was running for his life the first half of the season. He may be uncertain about how good his supporting cast will be next year.

Mississippi was more talented in 2008, and they were terrific once they jelled. But they were up and down the first half of the season (beat Florida in The Swamp, but lost to Wake Forest, Vanderbilt and South Carolina).

When both were freshmen in the spring of 2006, I figured Snead was better than McCoy and would eventually win the UT job (better arm, better athlete). Coaches loved McCoy’s awareness. And, evidently, they were not happy with Snead’s approach (individual vs. team). No way we’d have been better with Snead, though.

I hope he does well

I know that his college years didn’t come close to meeting the expectations he had when he signed with UT…and while you have to put the best QB on the field (unless his name is Major), I’ve always rooted for the guy because he chose us.

Totally agree

He’s a Texas kid and UT former student who nobody can blame for transferring. Worked out well for him. That being said, him going pro is a bad decision. QBs leaving early for the draft is a historically proven mistake for a number of reasons. I know he wants to win – and Ole Miss is not the national stage he would like – but he’s been terrible and inaccurate in every game I’ve seen him play. He needs to stay and work on his game. He has the potential and the talent to eventually make it big in the NFL but this will only hurt him.
