Why the heck not John Chiles instead of Gilbert?

I had to join here just so I could get some feedback on this question.  Why the heck didn't they put in John Chiles (who has shared some QB duties with Mcoy for 3 years!) instead of Gilbert (a true freshman!)?  It just doesn't make any sense to me!

I know that the loss isn't necessarily all Gilbert's fault, but things could have been very different with Chiles at QB!  Anyone agree with me?

Well, I agree in part.

John Chiles is more experienced in terms of years served, but Chiles hasn’t shown much as a QB.
I actually wanted to see Harris come in and run some kind of zone read or wild horn with Chiles. But I guess it is a moot point now.
But I will say, Gilbert’s experience boosts our confidence and ranking come next season! No freshman can claim that he basically started a national championship game. Hook’em.

I dont...

Chiles has not played quarterback this year and when he played last year, he was not that good… Once Gilbert settled down he did fine…. We will have an excellent quarterback next year…

Chiles is a reciever now.

I can’t imagine John Chiles coming in would have helped any. Besides what Austinite said, he simply has not run the offense in over a year. Our best shot was with Garrett Gilbert. John Chiles may have been able to execute zone read, but they were stuffing our runs like a turkey.

Garrett Gilbert can throw the rock, and when he has time he can be deadly. I’m glad we stayed with Gilbert.

Hook em.

I was wondering that

It must be that Gilbert earned the #2 spot on the roster. If he hadn’t done well in the first series of the second half, though, he probably would have been benched. It was inspiring to see young Garrett Gilbert play with grit in the face of adversity. He will probably start for the Longhorns next year. We’ll see.

I thought Gilbert looked great

Chiles has not performed as a QB. Period.

Watch out, I bite.

Gilbert did pretty well

But I do think it would’ve been a great time to give Harris his shot at the dream.

I don't know about that

Go back and look at Sherrod the few times they showed him on the sideline. Looked more like his nightmare than his dream.

nice! VY looked so po'ed out there...

did you catch him and Colt talking, I would have thought he’d have some love for Colt but he sorta just nodded and kept his arms crossed, bad body language for the former mentor to Sr.

Okay I know Chiles could not have taken the rest of the snaps BUT...

why not revive the Wild Horn for a few plays, if we were going to run the ball on 8 plus consecutive plays why not at least make it a little harder for the D to handle it…and let Chile throw it at least once out of that formation. If nothing else it would have given Gilbert some warm up time and a few extra minutes to start wrapping his head around the fact that he was going to be in there…

did you ever get a chance to see our Wild Horn?

if you’re asking this question, I have to assume the answer is no…

Yeah, remember that one time

that there was a good snap to Chiles and he caught the snap and he made the proper read and he ran it in for a touchdown? Remember?… Remember that one time?…

A thought..

Vince looks at the field these days from the point of view of someone who has now really learned the game. It must have been frustrating to Vince to see his team..the best team, lose.

Chiles &/or Sherrod Harris first, then Gilbert later

Yes, if they’re going to just quit for 4 straight offensive sets and run on every play, then yes, Chiles or Harris should have been running the O. That’s their strength. But if you’re actually going to continue to run the normal offense then Gilbert’s the obvious choice.

I don’t have a problem with the coaches playing it safe for a series after Colt got hurt – just to see if he’s coming back in – but did you have to waste the entire rest of the 1st half and all of their precious momentum just to keep GG from throwing a rookie interception? They had bama reelin’ and they should have kept their foot on the gas.
