Hello all, bored at work today so I figured I'd make a bit of a guide to show you where the "hot spots" are in the downtown Lincoln area for anyone that is planning to make the trip up this weekend. Please forgive any and all spelling/grammatical errors :)
I guess first off I should say that this is the area south of Memorial stadium, I tried to keep the stadium in view in both of these pictures so you can use that as a identifying feature, you can see the stadium in the upper middle part of this picture.
Ok here we go, the area in the western part of the map that I have identified as "The haymarket" is kind of an older, historic part of Lincoln, this is where a lot of the fancier restaurants in the area are located, their website can be found here, along with a list of food/drink spots here. A few of my favorite haunts in this area, Barry's is a great time after the games, lots of room, basically a huge bar. Brewsky's is another sports bar here, more laid back, but lots of room to sit in different areas of the bar. Doc's place is a most sophisticated bar, lots of business types, huge selection of local and regional beers, old chicago is another place in this area that has tons of different beers. My absolute favorite restaurant in this world is in this area and it's called "Lazlo's", they've got great food and they have their own microbrewery, get the ribeye and a third stone brown and you'll be good to go.
The second area in the box is a very high concentration of bars, there are also many restaurants in the area. I really like going to Duffy's in this area, they have a drink called a "fishbowl", which is actually any cocktail served in a fishbowl, I wouldn't recommend drinking one of these by yourself unless you're planning an early night. The absolute best spot in this area for food in my honest opinion is called "The watering hole", it's more of a dive bar, but if you like chicken wings, this is the place to be, order the "original grilled" wings with bleu cheese dressing and a beer and you won't be sorry. This is a good place to get early on saturday as it fills up pretty quickly..another spot right down from the watering hole is called "Brothers" it's a chain bar, but has plenty of room to sit on game day.
On to the second map.
this is the area directly west of the stadium, all of the area's that are shaded in red are good tailgating spots, I will be at the one furthest to the south, that one along with the one directly north of the stadium seem to be the younger (21-30) crowd, while the others seem to be a bit more laid back. There are some others further south but I didn't have enough room on my screen to show them. If you have any other questions, please post them here and I would be happy to answer them, otherwise you can email me, up to the day of the game if you need any "local" advice, I would be happy to give my number through email to anyone as texting seems to be the fastest way to get an answer out of me.
Hope you all have a great time up here, GBR!
