I'm shocked. There's no way any of us saw this coming.

Not Shocked

Many of the coaches in the Big 12 (including Barnes) really dislike Scott Drew for his recruiting tactics.

I guess Baylor does still have some strong political connections...

I heard on the radio this morning (790 in Houston) that some of the texts have the Baylor assistant threatening that if Perea doesn’t commit to the Bears, he will not be allowed back into the country.

At Least There Was No Player-on-Player Violence

Drew’s body count pales in comparison to that of Dave Bliss.

Just the tip of the iceberg here for Baylor...

all downhill from here, it was just a matter of time.

Several weeks ago someone put up the early power rankings for the bball teams and I openly questioned baylor’s sudden ability to recruit first round NBA talent. Said then and I’ll say it now, I have the same feeling about baylor’s bball program as I did about usc and Reggie. I bet it ends up in similar fashion.

He could follow the Pete Caroll method of escape and go to the NBA and coach the team in Seattle to avoid any real punishment.

Oh no he can’t cuz the team already left. He’s screwed.

they have a pretty good WNBA team up there

Finally...

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. No way Baylor was in recruiting battles with Kentucky and Duke without something inappropriate going on at Baylor.

Silly Bears

So in the past two weeks we’ve heard about Lace Dunn breaking his girlfriend’s jaw, two football players smoking weed in the Taco Bell drive-thru, and now Scott Drew finally being exposed for shady recruiting. Am I missing anything?

by Infield Elephant on Oct 13, 2010 10:20 AM CDT reply actions

And at least one of those two football players was playing the next week against us (caught a TD pass). They weren’t actually caught smoking, just passed out in a car with several lids laying around in plain sight. I didn’t know Baylor had a rocket science department.

Gordon

Josh Gordon was Baylor’s third leading receiver with five catches for 96 yds and a TD. I believe he sat out the first series. Tough punishment in Waco.

I'm utterly shocked...

(blind Baylor fan) Where’s all the proof!? (/blind Baylor fan). Well, BBF, you’re about to find out.

Hopefully, and I can’t believe I actually have to say this, this helps Texas out with their in-state recruiting and keeps Baylor from sweeping us again. Isaiah Austin, come on down! You and Cameron Ridley would be a hell of a frontcourt.

Serious denial setting in down in the bubble

Baylor folk seem to think this is about one text message to a coach. They also have absolutely no comprehension of why their coach is considered a dirty recruiter and disliked by many other coaches around the Big 12 (and the country).

Sorry, but the NCAA doesn’t send investigators down for self-reporting a couple of texts by a single coach. There must be much more to it. I’d be shocked if some prohibited activities did NOT take place in the probationary period, which ended just weeks before the text messages in question.

Watch out, I bite.

So, nothing has changed.

Baylor has been in denial about their bball programs for years. They seem to think bad things don’t go on in Eden on the Brazos.

by dimecoverage on Oct 13, 2010 3:39 PM CDT up reply actions

on top of that

the fans believe it’s UT’s fault for ratting them out. Like this is some sort of revenge for them beating us recently.

Ratting them out?

Please explain. I’ve heard nothing of this…

by Dirty Work on Oct 13, 2010 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions

It didn't actually "happen"

He’s saying it’s the Baylor fans’ perception. It mainly stems from many UT fans making frequent comments about how Drew cheats and Rick Barnes very open distaste for the man. It’s not like Texas went to the NCAA and said, “Baylor is cheating. Watch out for them.”

by GoHornsGo90 on Oct 13, 2010 4:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah it's partially a joke

but since Barnes has been open about his dislike for Baylor, their fans would like to think that Barnes and UT has something to do with an event where Baylor gets exposed for dirty recruiting.

by goingforthecorner on Oct 14, 2010 1:00 AM CDT up reply actions

actually most believe that it is IU that ratted them out

(which is highly likely) but it doesn’t excuse to for being wrong.

My question is who in their right mind believes that somehow the NCAA is coming to campus to interview the staff just over a self reported violation? This is the part I am the most curious about…

No amount of spin can explain that fact or that Drew has already sought legal council…

Baylor men's basketball has been on probation

something ridiculous, like 5 times in the last 20 years

Like I read once, if a program is on probation or being investigated and about to go on probation, but they’re still recruiting at a high level and pulling int he best players in the nation, they’re still cheating. Cheating in men’s basketball is in the culture in Waco.
