  • 9-1 -- The 'Horns' record against Nebraska during the existence of the Big 12. Dominance is reflected on the scoreboard at the end of the game and if one team scores more points 90% of the time, that's dominance. Enjoy the Big 10, Huskers, you won't have to lose to Texas any more. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  • 6 -- The numbers of wins in a row against the Children of the Corn.
  • 3 -- Consecutive wins of unranked Texas teams against Nebraska squads ranked in the top 10.
  • 1 -- Number of three-game losing streaks in the Mack Brown era, which came in 1999.

I have to admit...

I quit on this team. They proved me wrong. With a liitle hard work and luck we beat the Cornsuckers. I love it! I’ve never seen the Husker fans so pissed. I mean who boos an opposing player when he’s hurt? WTF? Just because it slows your hurry up offense. Losers! Bo’s attitude is ruubing off on the children of the corn…or maybe it just that we own the state of Nebraska!!! 9-1!!!

That was sad

Pelini is clearly a jack*ss and I have to admit, the change in Nebraska fans is disturbing. I have always had a lot of respect for them, but it seems like the new generation (we will call them the Pelini generation) is lacking the same class as the old school fans. They are acting like many of our fans now and that’s not a good thing. Oh well, we will never see them again, so who cares.

I’m not defending past Texas fan behavior, but I don’t remember ever booing a hurt player. Unbelievable and unforgivable.

Me neither

…but we have had some bad moments that I have witnessed personally. It’s just a game, we need to leave it that way. I will say Texas fans as a whole aren’t the jackholes we are painted out to be. Winning tends to make one a little more cocky.

Bingo!!

That is exactly where I have seen those things. Good call.

by ShinerRyan on Oct 18, 2010 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions

What's the excuse now?

“0 — Touches for DJ Monroe on offense.”

He’s had two weeks to study and he knows the playbook less than he did against OU?

Criticism of the game plan

Out to be tempered. We dialed up the right plan and got a w. Discipline on both sides of the ball can go a long way. I expect to see monroe against lesser defenses, but we needed a “power” running attack in the second half and got it from Cody. The situation meant no opportunity to use Monroe.

by BMG on Oct 17, 2010 10:38 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

I wouldn't say

the offensive game plan is above criticism. It was by far the best one all year but that isn’t the greatest compliment, either. The Texas offense benefited greatly from excellent field position most of the game. If you go an look at the offensive numbers they are fairly pedestrian.

gameplan was not above reproach

I just said it ought to be tempered. I don’t really see how we would have benefited from DJ on the field. Newton and Whitaker did a great job running tough and catching out of the backfield. They protected well out of the 2 RB set we showed for the first time. Then with Cody, we used a power running scheme successfully and we needed our defense to stay rested.

by BMG on Oct 17, 2010 12:22 PM CDT up reply actions

I thought the Horns played to insure field position.

The second thing they did was to give the D plenty of rest when they needed it most of the game.

So, the non-scoring part of the game plan was executed well imho. If you remember, this was a characteristic of the great Royal teams, especially when scoring was more of a premium prior to the wishbone. It is a strategy you employ to give your defense it’s best opportunity to control the game.

The offensive scoring plan was pretty minimalist. Get a lead to shut up the crowd and stun the Huskers, then play the power/control game and take what they give you. Even that was reduced the second half to just controlling the game.

Mack took the full blame for the FG/pooch kick, saying they should have just kicked it out of bounds (they really didn’t considered the possible bad outcome). But the FG team will be taking more tackling practice, he said.

Not mentioned here, but I thought the second line players, esp. Hicks and the corners, did well late in the game. The cbs got saved a few times by poor receiving, but made no major mistakes. They may have to play more these next two weeks depending on the extent of those injuries…we had a half dozen starters get dinged up. Good depth saved the day.

My only complaint was that GG didn’t have an audible when NU left two thirds of the field wide open (three times) when safeties crept up to the line. Major or Colt would have taken that cheap TD…could be that without TE, we really didn’t have a receiver who could get there quickly enough, even on a slant.

I think my whole point

Is that this game doesn’t give GD a pass. nor McWhorter. I still think there needs to be changes at both of these spots. However, this has been my same tune for about 2 years now.

The gameplan was good

In it’s own respect. Regarding other teams in the country, it was nothing special.

With the loss of the Cud chewers and corn farmers it time to think of getting the Big 12 back from the posers and Yankees.

I would like to see TCU and Houston Join the Big 12, It may not even cost to much if they could just get on national Televised games more often they might be satisfied with that.

Just move the 2 Okies up to the north where they belong anyways, you have a all Texas south division. it would just require one provision that Texas plays OU each season, but you could set up a rivalry day where a north/south game be set up for every team in the conference.

The Southwest Conference is dead and buried, as it should be. There will be no revival.

by dimecoverage on Oct 17, 2010 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Wouldn't mind see TCU...

but not sure what UH adds. They even lost to Rice yesterday. Every time UT loses or there is some legal trouble involving a UT player or coach, the UH fans come out on the Houston Chronicle blogs and gloat, even worse than the Aggies. But anyway, the debate about adding teams to the Big XII always seems to evolve into what this or that team “brings to the table.” University A does have the academic credentials. B does not bring a big TV market. C doesn’t have a big enough fan base. D doesn’t have the quality we want in their athletic program. E would be ideal but wouldn’t want to join the Big XII. What it boils down to is that their are no ideal candidates out there looking for a new conference “home.” The issues becomes how badly we want to have a conference championship game, and if we do, accept the best of the available candidates.

Where is Monroe?

You have to wonder what’s really going on behind the scenes with Monroe. It just makes no sense…

by Marydatx on Oct 17, 2010 2:08 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

I agree

Is he that bad at blocking? Surely he’s been able to learn more plays by now. I’d love to know Brown’s rationale behind not giving him any carries.

by loganck on Oct 17, 2010 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Great win, but don't get crazy, WE ARE STILL PRETTY BAD

Offensively speaking, we haven’t done much in terms of “correcting” the problems, six games later. All we’ve done is is shocked the hell out of Nebraska by making poor GG run. GG is not a runner. So what now, we’re going to ditch the pro-style attack and go back to the spread? Ridiculous. GG is not a running QB. You can see it in the Neb players’ faces: “WTF? He’s running!” Look at GG’s stats for the whole game. Atrocious. You’re not going to win a lot of games with that kind of stat.

THE OFFENSE STILL NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED SIX GAMES IN!

You can see it in the second half. The offense stunk up the place again.

The defense, on the other hand, AWESOME.

Call me names if you want, but this team still has A LOT OF PROBLEMS on offense. A win over an overrated Nebraska team isn’t going to change that fact.

In-VINCE-able.

good game TEXAS

hard to watch for me, harder to get over my depression induced hangover the next day, I hung out with a lot of long horns fans and had a good time with them though..see ya never.

More numbers

1933…the year of the last time Texas lost at Texas-Memorial-stadium-Lincoln hahaha

3234…the amount of days it took Husknuts to enter the top 5 before being exposed.

8+……the amount of years, and counting, that NU hasnt beat a team that will finish the season ranked.

21-71..the rushing totals of “T-Magic” and Garrett Gilbert hahaha

9-1 -- The 'Horns' record against Nebraska during the existence of the Big 12.

As bad as the 9-1 record is, it could have been worse had they played every year. Strange matter of coincidence: the Husknuts managed to miss most of Mack’s best teams while playing some of his worst and still losing. And they also had the luxury of not having to play Texas and 0U in the same year – bunch of freakin corn-cult whiners.

The years that the Husknuts did not play Texas during Mack’s tenure:

year…W/L..Final AP Rankings
2000….9-3…12AP
2001…11-2…5AP
2004…11-1…5AP
2005…13-0…1AP
2008…12-1…4AP

Curious...

What were the Corn-folks record those years? I’m too lazy to look it up but what year did they play for the MNC…2002? Them were some good teams the years we did not play the Corn.

Hats off to Texas

NU’s weaknesses were exposed. NU made mistakes but at the end of the day isn’t the team that makes the least mistakes that usually wins? Texas came to play.
