A few thoughts:
- James Kirkendoll and Marquise Goodwin taking over the starting jobs at flanker and Sub B, respectively, is probably more about the injuries to Mike Davis and John Chiles than about exceptionally strong play from either of the current starters. Expect Davis at least to earn some significant reps against Iowa State if he's fully healthy.
- Greg Smith appears to have taken over the tight end role that was used less against Nebraska than in previous games. The appearance of the unused H-back position on the depth chart is almost a joke.
- Fozzy Whittaker remains the starter and DJ Monroe falls to fourth on the depth chart behind Tre' Newton and Cody Johnson, who both appeared fully healthy against Nebraska following the bye week. It's perhaps questionable whether Monroe even got many reps during the week off to catch up on the playbook and the health of the other backs is probably the latest excuse from the coaching staff for Monroe not getting carries.
- Alex Okafor has taken over the second defensive tackle position next to Kheeston Randall, which is disappointing in regards to the play of Tyrell Higgins and Calvin Howell, but is welcome because the Longhorns had to have someone step into the void left by the departure of Lamarr Houston to the NFL.
- No real changes on defense or special teams and besides some shuffling of the running backs and the almost meaningless listings of the receivers, there probably won't be many changes for the rest of the season barring injuries. It is worth noting that Jordan Hicks is not on the depth chart despite coming in to back up Keenan Robinson when he left with his injury, even though Emmanuel Acho stayed on the strongside and Dravannti Johnson remained on the bench.
- Mack Brown did note during his press conferences that none of the injuries sustained during the Nebraska game (Keenan Robinson and Kenny Vaccaro both had to leave, for instance) should keep any players out for the game against Iowa State.

Jordan Hicks...
I noticed that as well. I fully expected to see him on the two-deep. I thought he did a great job except for the penalty. I would love to see video where he gets chop blocked and cartwheels up into Lee’s face. That was awesome.
Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman
Whoever is doing the depth chart
(it might be a PR person) obviously lists what’s convenient, not what’s fact.
1. Hicks should be listed as Keenan’s backup.
2. Buchanan IS NOT the backup to Hix at left tackle; when Hix had to leave for a few plays against UCLA, Hopkins was inserted.
3. The listing at running back is meaningless . . . if healthy, three will play and Monroe probably won’t.
4. I hate the “rowing team” aspect of some of Mack’s depth charts in the past; mercifully, the “OR’s” are few in number, but one place IT SHOULD be included is at punter.
5. I second GOBR’s H-back travesty comment. Why list something that was hoped-for fantasy in the first place and is now fiction.
6. At punt return it should read “Curtis Brown OR Aaron Williams AND PRAY.”

Haha +1
6. At punt return it should read "Curtis Brown OR Aaron Williams AND PRAY."
I chuckled.

Good thing we talked Whaley into moving to H-back so he could get more playing time.
Do we move him back to RB now? Or do we move him to TE now?
Either wishbone fullback
or (chicken) wingback.
The Punt Comment
Made me laugh at first. But then, I thought, why are we, the U of Texas, struggling to find a PR?
Didn't Byndom change his number to #2?
If true, I guess the depth chart hasn’t figured this out yet.
Curtis Brown
Still at PR? This is ridiculous… he can’t even get his body under the punt. Him and AW just don’t have what it takes to be a danger.
Beat me to it
Nearly muffed one this week. How many times do these guys have to screw up. Is there no one else competent to handle punt returns?
For God's sake, can't we teach DJ to catch a damn ball!!!
Seriously. If he’s four deep in the RB’s, and is returning kick-offs, I’d have him catching punts all practice.
The first punt of the NU game
ABC messed up (shocker I know) and put DeSean Hales name and information infront of Brown as the punt returner, and I was so happy for those few seconds……
Well, it was pretty windy and the ball was against the swirling wind.
He acquitted himself on the muff and made a decent return on the play. These guys are first year return men. Another example of growing pains and the staff not preparing the next legion of specialists.
This last game was the first time in I don't even know how long that I've been able to point to the O-Line and say, "That's some good play there... They made that happen!"
Snow/Walters/Huey/Hix all seemed to be hanging tough against a well talented and coached DL.
I hope they keep me proud moving forward. I may have seen the first real heads-up blitz pick-up from the line on Saturday, where Hix spun around and caught a corner blitz to give GG enough time to make his throw.
It made the football good.
No that was Chris Whaley you saw.

thought adrian phillips looked good
So between him and byndom and diggs I think we will be ok
Wonder if a williams will go pro…I think he comes back to get c browns #1 spot, the thorpe award, and that 1st round money

i know adrian is considered a safety on this years depth chart
But his size and skill set, plus the depletion at CB, he looks more corner than safety… coverage better than vaccaro, so maybe move vacarro to safety?

Still have Gideon and Scott for another year at safety..
I like Vacarro at Nickel next year if he doesn’t beat Scott out at safety. Put A. Williams at CB if he comes back. I think the secondary will be fine next year without Chykie’s mental mistakes.
AW is gone
After this yr I think.

Yes.
He’s an NFL cornerback right now.

Might be more worried
about a potential rookie salary scale the year after and would take his chances with the lockout. Plus, there is a much lower chance of getting hurt working out on his own than playing a full college football season.

Vaccaro has been playing some in nickel
though I’m not quite sure if he has the fluidity, first-step quickness to play there consistently. Whatever he lacks in speed, he will make up for in physicality if he can get his hands on the receiver. I think Phillips is a candidate there as well.

A.J. is the number 1 CB
We just play him at nickel because he’s a monster in the running game and Curtis Brown is one of the worst tacklers in the country.
DJ in the doghouse?
He was returning kickoffs but why not give him his one play per game, greg? Now that both DJ and gilbert are on film its on davis to get creative again

With the holes the O-line was opening...
he could have juked one guy and been gone on at least one play. Maybe two or three. Why, GD?! Whyyyyyy?!?!?!
I hate to say it
but there is no way they are keeping him off the field for no reason. Possibly grade issues again?
Remember DJ got on the field against OU
because Newton was not 100% (concussion, I believe) and Monroe at least provided a bit of jet back there. He’s largely untrained at RB. We know he can’t pass block. Best time to use him is when the defense is huffing and puffing a bit, and his burst catches them a half-step back on their heels.
