Bevo's Daily Roundup - October 19, 2010
"It's all about winning," defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said.
"The fun is in winning."
Bo does not like Lincoln. It was that home field advantage.
After another dull effort at home, now would seem the perfect time for Nebraska to get out of town.
Coach Bo Pelini said Monday he's racking his brain trying to understand why his team doesn't play better at Memorial Stadium. He's got two weeks to figure it out.
"I honestly think there's less distraction on the road, whatever it may be," Pelini said during the Big 12 coaches' teleconference with reporters. "We're looking into why that is and trying to think outside the box a little bit about maybe handling home games a little bit differently."
Taylor Martinez wasn't the only problem.
"You look back, Taylor wasn't the only problem. We were just looking for a spark," Pelini said. "It's a tough situation. He's a young guy. You live and learn as a head coach. You don't know if that's the right decision to make, but it was a decision that was made and you move forward."
Moving on. FoxSports has a preview of the Iowa State game.
''This means absolutely nothing if you don't build on it and grow,'' Brown said Monday. ''We have not shown we are a mature football team yet ... We've shown we can play good.''
Brown says he'll treat the next six games like an entirely new season with the goal of going undefeated. First up is Iowa State (3-4, 1-2), a team that has lost 68-27 and 52-0 in its last two games.
The Cyclones are looking ahead.
One more game and Iowa State can put this overbearing Utah-Oklahoma-Texas stretch to bed forever.
"We have too much talent to let it slip," is how tailback Jeff Woody recalled coach Paul Rhoads’ postgame message after Iowa State was shut out for the first time since 45-0 against Kansas State in 2003, a span of 82 games.
Do we seem concerned? The Lost Lettermen has the Top 10 reasons Husker Nation can’t stand Texas.
Nebraska fans HATE Texas fans. And it doesn’t help that the program is in the state of Texas where everything is supposed to be bigger and better, including egos. Especially egos. While Texas fans are generally thought to be agreeable folks, not to Big Red Nation that has already had it up to hear with Texas and doesn’t appreciate "Hook ‘em horns" being thrown in their face every five seconds.
The BCS loves the Sooners.
Out of chaos comes order. Nietzsche never had to deal with the BCS.
This could be a year a bunch of unbeatens get screwed. It could be a year where you can end the season with an ugly loss and move on anyway.
That's just too bad. History does not favor Oklahoma.
History does not favor Oklahoma. Only two teams have won the title after debuting at No. 1 in the BCS standings — Florida State in 1999 and USC in 2004.
The #1 Land Thieves are preparing for Missouri.
Mike Sherman is good at saying a lot while saying absolutely nothing.
When asked if Jerrod Johnson is his starting QB for this week's game at Kansas, Sherman said. "Like every position, we have open competition every week and this week is no exception."
Read between the lines and backup Ryan Tannehill (right) is going to get a shot.
But, "I've been asked that question a bunch," Sherman said. "It's just what I said. I think (Johnson) is the leader of our team; he's averaging 300 yards a game. I trust him. I have confidence in him."
Sherman also said, "(Tannehill) will get his reps this week and we'll continue to play like we normally play in relationship to what happens on Saturday."
Shopping is good therapy. It is getting ugly in Kansas.
Texas is letting the terrorists win. The Big 12-2 is Un-American.
Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne said the Big 12 business model aligns with Major League Baseball (teams keep local TV revenue) and the Big Ten, where the Huskers will be next year, skews toward the NFL (every dollar divided equally). "To some degree, that’s sort of the American way, to reward ability," Osborne said of the Big 12 model. "If you’re looking at holding a group of people together for a long period of time, that may not be the best way."

The Huskers have it up to hear with Texas?
What exactly did they have up to hear? The Eyes of Texas?

I think a former Nebraska player runs the Lost Lettermen.
Maybe that NU education isn’t all it is cracked up to be?

Nebraska thinks UT fans are rude?
Man, wait till they travel to Columbus to play Ohio State. They think we’re rude? Oh, man, just wait. Just wait, my friends!

It's not just in Columbus
The Big 10 is chock full of abusive fan bases. Madison and Happy Valley are awful places for visiting teams.
Nebraska fans HATE Texas fans. And it doesn’t help that the program is in the state of Texas where everything issupposed to bebigger and better, including egos.
Fixed.

Actually, DC...
…I think that Osborne is saying that the Big 12 way of doing things is the American way, and he would prefer an non-American model.
I knew he preferred wearing red for a reason…
Hungry Hippos, baby! It's on!
I just reread that again.
They are leaving because the Big 12-2 is the right way by rewarding performance?
So the Cornshuskers are socialists. I knew I didn’t like those people.
Either way, you know they still think Texas is letting the terrorists win.

I caught that too!!
Interesting for a conservative congressman to advocate socialist ideals…when they benefit him! Hypocritical much, Li’l Tommy?
41-38 !!
I don't understand why NU always complains about the revenue sharing as a source of strife
when they were one of the three biggest beneficiaries of it. The teams received less because of it (ISU, Baylor, etc.) were the ones most desperate to save the conference.
To continue to convince themselves that they’re so damn classy, they had to conjure up some principled reason for leaving other than (a) Big 10 money and (b) they’re butthurt about Texas replacing them as a dominant power.
GOURANGA!
They think our fans are rude!
Ohio State you betcha. Don’t ever cross the state line into Ohio with ANY indication that
you support a college team, a high school team or little league that is not in Ohio. I doubt
any Cornhusker fan will even make the walk from their car to the stadium without trouble.
So wear those Corn hats and get your ass (literally) kicked. They will have EMS outside
as well as inside the “Horseshoe”. (I hate that name).
Too bad they did not get to play in front of our (rude) 101,000 home fans.
I read they were adding 10,000 seats to prepare for the Big 10. Too bad they were not ready
October 16th!! They will lose most Texas recruiting ties which equals failure.
Get ready for several 5-7 seasons NU!!
ut1ou2 for texas-ou weekend
Ohio State Fans
In 2005 I went to the game in Columbus. We went down to the game early to enjoy the ESPN Game Day coverage, etc. Early in the day about a dozen older tOUS alumni made an effort to welcome us and tell us that they hope we have a fun and “safe time.” At first we thought nothing of it, and then It started to get odd as more and more older tOSU fans said it to us. It became clear to us that their good manners were actually disguised concern and warnings about how the rest of their fans were going to be treating us later. By the end of the game, as we ran to our car and tried to avoid the burning sofas, etc, we understood. Nebraska and their fans seem to have no idea the cliff they drove off.
While Texas fans are generally thought to be agreeable folks, not to Big Red Nation that has already had it up to hear with Texas and doesn’t appreciate “Hook ‘em horns” being thrown in their face every five seconds
Are you kidding me? Ive tried to be nice and classy. It doesnt work with nebraska fans.
My last comment ever on NU
Back when the SWC was unraveling, I was talking to a friend who was a 12th Man Foundation board member. He told me exactly how it would play out, with the four teams going, and the reasons why, etc. I asked why would the Big 8 ever agree to that? He pointed out the relative size ratings of the TV markets – the third biggest in Texas was bigger than the biggest in the Big 8, and that money talks. That economic clout is what never sunk into the minds of NU fans – everything was a personal injustice. Jerry World is the biggest, most advanced stadium in the world, and it is a slight aimed at them to have the championship there. DFW has the most nonstops of any city in the Big 12, but it it a personal affront to move the offices there.
They will fit right in the Rust Belt conference. Teams that are nationally irrelevant, consistently losing against power conferences, and all competing for the same limited pool of HS recruits. And, with limited attractiveness to TV advertisers because their markets are economic basket cases. NU will be lucky to compete in the second tier – the Iowas, MSUs, etc. Personally, I think Iowa kicks their asses most years. But at least their baseball team will find competition at their level – just won’t be able to start thecseason until May …

Funny that one of Nebraska’s major complaints about the B12 is having the championship game in “enemy territory” (i.e. JerryWorld) and now are convinced they play better on the road.
You can’t expect reason from the unreasonable.

The bitching will resume soon enough
The relative distances between Lincoln/Arlington/Austin and Lincoln/Indianapolis/Columbus are virtually identical.
Meet the new boss, Huskers, same as the old boss.

But in the Big Ten...
The academics are soooo much better, the fans are nicer, they share their money and the Cornhuskers can run the conference. So everything is good.

Nebraska fans are muy classy!
That’s why they went out of their way to console Niles Paul on his way home after the game.

That is a horrible way to treat a player.
But before we chide the Cornshukers, remember the way Chris Sims was treated. We don’t have much room to point fingers.

Yeah, that is pretty dang bad
Just like the players, fans represent their schools and it is a good reminder that we, as Texas fans, can do it in a classy way, or in a classless way.
