TV Announcers for the Nebraska Game
Does anyone else want to vent about the announcers for the Nebraska game? Usually the announcers try to be impartial or, if anything, seem to favor the underdog, but this time they should have been wearing red with a piece of corn on their heads. Listening to them, the whole game turned on the dropped passes by the Nebraska receivers, ignoring dropped passes by UT receivers, a couple of BS penalties that kept a third-quarter Nebraska drive alive, and Nebraska fumbles they were fortunate to recover (not to mention that stupid pooch punt). Rather than criticizing Nebraska fans when they booed an injured Longhorn, they quickly made the excuse that they must feel he was faking. Then they had the gall to insult the officiating crew by suggesting Nebraska wouldn't get any calls from a Big XII crew since they were leaving the conference. Of course, this is not the first time this year UT has been slighted by the announcers. I believe it was the Tech game this year when it was only the last couple of minutes of the game they decided the UT defense deserved some credit.

I felt the same way...
Every announcer with the exception of a couple on FSN (god, I hope Dave Lapham isn’t calling the game this weekend) seems to hate UT. Millen should not be allowed on TV.

Yore outta luck. It's Lapham and his sidekick.
You guys need to pay the $50/year to get Craig via the interweb 24/7. I don’t have to listen to any douchebaggery in-game commentators.
Millen
We can now state with absolute certainty there are two professions that Millen is incapable of performing.
Matt Millen is a complete DOUCHE!
His knowledge of football is worst than a two year olds. He could not run a team (President for the Lions) and he definitely cannot call one. Every time I have to watch a game he calls it absolutely drives me insane.
Dear Beergut,
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Millen
Watched him rant last night after Titans-Jags regarding the impending rule changes on violent hits in the NFL. He made Skip Bayless appear thoughtful and well-spoken.
Poor Steve Young. First he had to deal with Emmitt Smith (whom I loved as a player) saying incomprehensible and perplexing things. Now Millen. After he mangled / crippled / gutted the Lions, the one thing I’m impressed with is that he’d show his face on TV at all.
In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty.
Poor Steve Young? Really?
That guy’s the biggest dbag ever!

I thought I'd get a response to that effect.
Whether or not he’s a douche, he’s shown he’s capable of some rational and semi-coherent thought processes. Seems more smug than ignorant to me.
But yeah, seeing them argue was the highlight of the night, besides watching the Rangers drop six on the Yanks in the 8th inning.

I think it has to be something to do w/ Nebraska being ranked #5 at the time
When the underdog is up, I think the tendency is to focus on what the ranked team is doing wrong, rather than what the dog is doing right.
Ranked #5 or not.....
We’re Texas by God, not some weak sister from New Mexico or somewhere. We have earned respect. We own Nebraska, so it shouldn’t have been that big of a surprise in the first place.
At least he had to eat his bias once
I want to say it was in the 3rd quarter or early in the 4th when UT’s punter pinned NU deep…our gunner got to the ball just as it was about to go into the endzone for a TB. Well replays showed the our gunner’s foot was on the line when he knocked it backwards into the field and Millen just went nuts saying the ball should be at the 20 instead of inside the 5.
Well, as Millen had to explain after the commercial break, in college ball, it doesn’t matter if the player is in the endzone, only if the ball crosses the plain.
Interesting how Millen wasn’t “quite” as indignant when he had to explain that he had been wrong.
Hopefully we don’t get the Oliver Stone of broadcasters again…then again, he still might be better than Dave “He just face raped the guy” Lapham who is calling the ISU game this Saturday.
Be nobody but yourself in a world that desperately wants you to be like everybody else.
If you're going to be PAID to call a college game
You should acquaint yourself with the basic rules of said game…
By this point in the game, I had become so numbed to the bias of both announcers that all I could do was laugh at Millen’s stupidity.
The shortest distance between two points is under construction.

To be fair about one point
No commentators would explicitly call the fans in the stadium classless, and when they were explaining that the crowd was booing because they thought that the injury was faked in order to slow down the pace of Nebraska’s hurry up offense on that drive, that was in fact the truth. There is nothing biased about reporting the facts.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
So, your saying it was faked?
Based on what? Has the player or coaching staff stated it was faked? Regardless, there is no way the Nabraska fans could have known at the time whether it was real or acting.

No, I'm saying that the crowd was booing because they believe it was faked

I talked to a friend who was at the game
He said the Husker fans were very classless in this loss. Booing after it is clear a guy is hurt is pretty classless and they kept it up….and continued their booing toward their own team. I understand their frustration, but it was not “classy.”
I didn't say it was
but it wasn’t biased of the commentators to describe the booing that was happening on the field. That was the point I was originally making.

Upon first viewing
I thought we were getting some calls as well, but I watched the game a second time, and it turned out that Nebraska really was just committing a lot of penalties. The only call the officials blew in our favor was the receiver getting one foot in bounds on a third down play. The receiver was called out, but Nebraska snapped the ball for their punt so quickly that the play couldn’t be reviewed. Ironically enough, the crowd didn’t actually boo on that occasion. Every time they did boo it was after the officials had clearly made the correct call.
I thought Nebraska fans were supposed to be pretty knowledgeable, but they seemed more irrational and juvenile Saturday. Incidentally, the officials missed some pretty obvious takedowns by Husker offensive linemen.
the only nice thing
that Millen said was at the end of the game when the teams were shaking hands, Millen said that Texas would not lose another game this year.
other than that, yea, they were very pro husker that day.
you mean other than...
“Acho Acho Man…”? He said some other stupid thing using a players name but I can’t recall exactly what it was.

McDonough
While I agree with everything said about Millen to this point, I’m surprised that no one is specifically calling out McDonough’s blatant corn pone fandom. His pro-Nebraskan urgings – particularly in the second half – were palpable. You kind of expect one-sided idiocy from the ex-jock “color” analyst (i.e., Andre Ware, Matt Millen, Craig James), not the play-by-play commentator.

And I thought I was the only one who noticed!!
Listen to SMcD on the punt return. He was screaming!! He couldn’t control himself. Unbelievable.
I thought it was just me
Glad that my bias for the Horns hasn’t left me the lone person noticing the one-sided commentary. The discussion of our downing the ball off their goal line clearly showed the commentator to be a pouty, whiney Husker fan. They simply refused to give Texas credit for anything that we did good.
Also, I talked to an alumni last night that was at the game. He said the Husker fans were terrible and that it was particularly bad when they were booing their own players and booing us when our guy got injured.
What really scared me
was when Millen said we would not lose another game this year. Considering the source, we should be very, very afraid.

Millen did the UCLA game
maybe he still has that bad taste in his mouth.
Millen is a major tool......He took our extremely below average Detroit Lions and....
made the franchise the laughing stock of the NFL. How any Media Group could hire him for his football expertise is beyond me.
Can't get enough of that cowbell !!!

Big 12 Ref Conspiracy
I’d like to hear more about this alleged conspiracy among Big 12 officials to punish Nebraska for leaving. What, exactly, are they trying to gain by this? Do they think the other schools will like them more or what? And why aren’t they also conspiring against Colorado?
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
