I ain't gonna lie. Like most people, i drank the Garret Gilbert koolaid after his gutsy performance in the MNC game. He has the "look" of a great QB, size, arm strength, poise/demeanor etc... but something is just not there.
I for one am tired of hearing the excuses from the coaches and people that we need "ease" Gilbert in and shelter him and give him time to develop etc.. Look this kid has known from the MNC game that the starting QB position is his, he has had all of spring, summer and 7 freakin games now. Um, i think that is plenty of time for GG to have shown us what he's got.
Honestly, look around, there are freshman QB's all over the country that are playing and doing a whole lot better than GG is. Blame it on Greg Davis all we want, but i saw GG throw A LOT of bad passes on Saturday. Under thrown balls, overthrown balls, and balls that simply hit the ground 2-3 ft in front of the receiver.
Don't get me wrong, i really REALLY want to love GG but i just can't get there from what i've seen. Iowa St's defense is horrible..and if GG could not pick apart that defense and move the ball then i dunno what to say.
I say give Case McCoy a shot against Baylor to shake things up a bit. I have no idea how he will do but at the very least it sends a message to all the players that no position is safe at Texas and it fosters healthy competition for PT.
Mack needs to send a message to the entire team, and not just the coaches, against Baylor.
