Around SBN: VIDEO: Veterans Share Favorite Sports Memories

At 6:30 pm CT on Wednesday, SA Madison RB Aaron Green will announce his collegiate decision among his four finalists: Nebraska, Florida State, Cal, and Texas.

Smart money has Green choosing Nebraska, his favorite for much of the process and the school at which his brother plays. Green's last official visit was to Lincoln and he never made it to Austin this fall for a game amid rumors that contact between he and the coaching staff has been minimal recently.

Boo....

but in all seriousness he is a great athlete and I wish him luck but not the team no matter where he lands.

hes been nothing but ...

… very respectable through the whole process. I wish him the best, and it really hurts to see him go to another place, esp in a time of disarray for our offense.

Some kids just want to play football in the snow in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Whoops…did I say that out loud? Good luck kid.

Hey, the system is not perfect. But, it's better than the one we had. Um, really? Joe Paterno led 4 undefeated teams under the old system that were not National Champions. With this "better" system, we've only had to endure a BCS controversy OR an inconclusive end to the following seasons: 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009.

Allegedly NU had many of its recruits at the UT game.

The final display of redemption or some such wonderful aspiration. Wonder if Green was there? The game couldn’t have escaped his notice. But if he kept watching, I’m sure the ISU game hit his radar screen as well.

Wonder if it was enough to drive him to Cal or Florida State?

he was there

I don't understand the 'best of luck' thing

Hell, if he’s not coming to Texas, then I hope he never sees the field. Nothin personal, but if you aint with us you’re against us.

by Dirty Work on Oct 26, 2010 10:52 AM CDT reply actions

I see your point.

It definitely takes the sting away when that player that doesn’t commit doesn’t live up to their billing, ala Darrell Scott. However, Aaron Green seems to be a fine young man and I hope he has successful career wherever he goes. Even if that wherever is Nebraska.

Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman

Because he is just a kid

So you wish that everyone who plays college football never sees the field if they were recruited by Texas and decided to go elsewhere?

Interesting.

by Hobbes881 on Oct 26, 2010 3:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, not exactly, I guess this IS somewhat personal...

He’s most likely going to leave his home state and sign with a team that absolutely hates Texas. That makes us his enemy, ya know? And he ours.
I feel the same way about the in-state kids who sign with OU, and really any school that Texas has a history with.. Aggy and tceh recruits are a little higher in my book just because they stayed in Texas

Best of luck to Aaron

Certainly don’t begrudge him a bit for not wanting to be a part of this nightmare.

Dark comes before the light my friend

AD was a guest at the RRR as a senior recruit. He chose to attend OU after the Sooners thumped Texas 65-13. Things worked out in the end (for Texas).

Recruits have to know that Texas will bounce back. Be a part of the resurrgence or be run-over by it. His options may have been narrowed by unseen factors. Still wish him good luck as he is an SA kid (except if it’s against the Horns).

Nice

I like the Dark Knight reference. Great movie. Or if you didn’t intend that, good quote anyway.

I think you kind of disproved your own hopefulness with that Peterson reference, though. That was a detriment to UT to not get Peterson, even though we obviously did have Benson in 2004 and JC from 2005-2007. Vince and Peterson in the same backfield in 2005 would have been the best backfield in college football history. I guess what I’m trying to say is while Texas did go on to win that 2005 NC, it’s not like it helped us at all to lose AD. I can’t even imagine how easily we would have won if Peterson had been on that team. Would have been a joke to see Vince, JC, and AD run over defenses.

And Ramonce and Selvin. That would have been filthy.

Unintentional Dark Knight quote
not wanting to be a part of this nightmare

Just meant that even though we lost AD, Texas has done pretty well. It’s a detriment to anybody not to get Peterson for sure. AD went on to win National Championships and Superbowls play in the NFL.

Texas still has had a plethora of success in the Mack Brown era. Texas will awaken from this season and maybe be better for it. “They can’t all be winners!” (Bad Santa referrence intended)

Yeah you're right

Kind of a stupid comment by me, in retrospect. Lol.

Nah

Just shows your passion for the Horns. Your just a dude typing as a dude pretending to be another dude.

If we have AP, do Mack and Davis ever let Vince be Vince? Or do they just stick with Mock handing the ball to AP all game until he gets hurt? The latter is essentially what happened to OU.

by hodad on Oct 27, 2010 6:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Hell no

If we had AD, Vince never loses a game

by Dirty Work on Oct 27, 2010 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I would argue that if we had AP, Mack never unclenches his asshole long enough to give Vince a chance and we’re stuck with Chance Mock back there and Vince is moved to WR.

Not having Purple Jesus

may have cost us the national title his freshman year. My recollection is that he ran for more than 200 yards against us in the only game we lost that year. Had he had been on the other side of the ball, the Horns would have beat Boomer Stupor and at least played for the MNC.

I starting to realize a nasty equivalencey.

This season is the price we pay for the Rangers in the Series.

Lord knows what it will cost to get the Astros in.

by whills on Oct 26, 2010 7:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Haha, funny you say that Whills

My buddy has chalked up the football season and said it’s our year in baseball. His response to me asking him for the Kenny Powers quote about San Francisco Saturday night via txt, “Dude, I’m just glad you’re still alive.” Haha
Being the fact that I’m an eternal optimist, the Horns will get better in my mind. But for now, go Rangers!
