Inside the Numbers: Texas Versus Florida Atlantic
- The win against Florida Atlantic was the first since October 16th, a span of 36 days.
- It was the first win at home since the victory against Wyoming on September 11th. Texas is now 2-4 at home this season.
- The Longhorns were able to remain undefeated against teams from the Sun Belt -- 15-0.
- The 24 points scored in the first half tied for the most this season (Rice).
- Texas has scored 24 or more points in an entire game only three other times on the season.
- The 51 points scored surpassed the season-high of 34 (Rice and Wyoming) and were the most Texas has scored since dropping 51 on Kansas last season. Texas teams under Mack Brown and Greg Davis have scored 50 or more points 41 times.
- Davis' offense racked up 500 or more yards (522) for the first time this season. It was the highest offensive output in yardage since the Texas A&M game last year. In the history of Texas football, Brown and Davis have accounted for 55 of the 69 500-yard games -- nearly 80%.
- The interception return by Emmanuel Acho was the first defensive/special teams touchdown scored since the Rice game and only the second on the season. Texas scored 11 touchdowns last year on defense or special teams.
- Sam Acho lead the Texas defense with six tackles (four for loss), three sacks, four quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. With those three sacks, Acho passed Brian Orakpo and three others on the Texas all-time sack list. The four tackles for loss accounted for 49 lost yards for Florida Atlantic.
- The Texas offense turned in their most balanced game of the season with 259 rushing yards and 263 passing yards.
- 38 -- The Hail Mary at the end of the first half to Malcolm Williams was the first such pass completed by a Greg Davis offense in his 38 years of coaching.
- 63 -- The long touchdown pass to James Kirkendoll in the second quarter was the longest offensive play from scrimmage this season. Kirkendoll's 123 receiving yards were a career high.
- 124 -- Cody Johnson's 124 rushing yards marked the first time this season any Texas player has gone over 100 rushing yards in a game. It was the second 100-yard rushing game of his career.
- 6 -- Number of carries for DJ Monroe, tying the UCLA game for the most touches he has received in a game this season. The sophomore speedster responded with 43 yards, an average of 7.2 yards per carry.
- 2 -- Number of times Adrian Phillips let punts fly over his head and into the end zone rather than fielding them inside the 10. This season, that counts as a major victory.
- 13 -- Number of punts fielded by Phillips before he returned one, despite having several previous opportunities.
- 0 -- Carries for Chris Whaley.
- 4 -- Carries for Ryan Roberson, who began the season at linebacker.
- Texas scored touchdowns on only one of their first four trips into the red zone before rebounding with two late scores after the game was out of hand. Prognosis -- still not good in the red zone.
- 13 -- Number of points left on the board by the Texas offense in the red zone.
- 25% -- Fumble recovery percentage for the Longhorns, who forced four in the game and only recovered one, precisely the season average. Texas has now forced 32 fumbles and recovered eight on the year.
- Freshman receiver Darius White had his first career reception in the game.

Credit FAU sucking more than Greg Davis not sucking.
Davis’ offense racked up 500 or more yards (522) for the first time this season. It was the highest offensive output in yardage since the Texas A&M game last year. In the history of Texas football, Brown and Davis have accounted for 55 of the 69 500-yard games — nearly 80%.
That sounded dangerously close to an endorsement of Greg Davis.

Shit. The last sentence wasn't supposed to be part of the block quote. Still figuring out the tools on this site.

Florida Atlantic isn't very good.
But statistically, in terms of total defense, they are about average and better than some teams the Texas offense performed much more poorly against.
Not an endorsement of Greg Davis, but in a tough season, it is probably worth having some perspective on what Brown and Davis have done at Texas. I’m more worried that the strong offensive performance against FAU coupled with a win at Texas A&M on the back of a solid offensive game and Mack Brown might try to convince himself that there aren’t any changes that need to be made.

My concern, as well.
I’m with you about keeping the past successes in mind. The only differnece is I’m more inclined to attribute them to Brown and Young and Brown and McCoy than to Brown and Davis. I do respect your opinion, though. I do. Manhug?

Worried Too
Lets hope Mack looks at everything on a whole and see that GD is not helping and cuts the dead weight. Some stats even from this game still make our offense look bad, especially the 1st palyer to rush for 100yds in a game. I gotta believe that DJ could of done that a few times if he got the ball a few more times (eraging 7yds/carry) We should have multiple 100+ yds games.
More a result of the great defense
we actually forced turnovers and forced more 3 and outs, giving the offense more snaps.

Flanker screens...
or any screen play for that matter were clearly demonstrated to not work against the Sort of Wrecking Crew. I hope Davis watched the game last night.

just out of curiosity
where did you get this statistic?
38 — The Hail Mary at the end of the first half to Malcolm Williams was the first such pass completed by a Greg Davis offense in his 38 years of coaching.
Seems like a very difficult statistic to locate.

You are a saint for listening to/reading a transcript of the entire press conference. I’m glad I don’t have to.
What we have here is a failure to execute.

Kind of sad
that for DJ to get 6 carries, Tre Newton has to give up football and Fozzy doesnt play.
/le sigh
1 - 1st game i haven't watched as I did not care about the outcome...
I had a hunch we would win but…. meh… It gets us to 5-6… Apparently I got to miss Greg Davis extraordinaire at its finest…
Anywhere I can see the game online?
