I’m going for Alabama. I never really liked Chizik all that much so it easy to root for the Tide in this one.

But was kinda hoping to see Auburn’s defense exposed (again)

How does our OC watch tape of Iowa State getting blown out by OU 52-0 and then come up with a gameplan which scores only 6 points through 3 quarters?!?

I sure hope you're right.

But I have my doubts. Muschamp has had one really good year, and he seems to get a pass on the clusterfuck he threw out there this year. Just like Major gets a pass, seemingly because he’s likable.

I said before the season that I thought Muschamp had something to prove, and in my estimation he failed miserably.

There is a huge difference between taunting a player and a college kid celebrating a great play. The NCAA can’t figure out the difference.

Looks like the universal conspiracy to get Boise to the title game is nearly complete

They needed about 16 chips to fall into place for them, and at the beginning of the season, it seemed astronomically unlikely. Today is chip #15, and #16 will come when Boise [INEXPLICABLY] passes TCU in the BCS.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 26, 2010 2:15 PM CST reply actions

Wow

I know OU has a horrible track record, but Alabama really is the most crooked program in the NCAA. I’m glad we don;t share a conference; this stuff would be infuriating week to week.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 26, 2010 2:16 PM CST reply actions

And an Aggie helped give them that reputation.

by dimecoverage on Nov 26, 2010 2:18 PM CST up reply actions

My opinion of Nick Saban

really went downhill after the Title Game, when Bama ran up the score instead of kneeling toward the end.

Can you provide more details on the crookedness… I know they were sanctioned in the past, but do you think stuff is still happening there?

How does our OC watch tape of Iowa State getting blown out by OU 52-0 and then come up with a gameplan which scores only 6 points through 3 quarters?!?

by SchruteFarm on Nov 26, 2010 3:37 PM CST up reply actions

Referring mostly to past sanctions

although most of those sanctions took place when the NCAA hadn’t yet been castrated for financial reasons. From direct experience of being around their fanbase (an ex-girlfriend of mine is from Tuscaloosa) I’m pretty sure the culture of win-at-all-costs hasn’t changed a bit, and I doubt if Saban is the guy to clean up that culture.

I just lost it when I saw the phantom pass-interference and the utterly ridiculous unsportsmanlike conduct penalties that broke the game open for Bama. Reminded me all too vividly of my childhood when I used to pray for Bama to get the death penalty.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 26, 2010 3:44 PM CST up reply actions

Most recently, Saban has skirted the scholly rules

quite flagrantly by signing way more than the limit then floating players on and off the scholarship lists, and the ones he takes off, he puts on “staff” so they get paid.

by silky51 on Nov 26, 2010 2:39 PM CST up reply actions

I'm questioning, at this point, whether the majority still sees things this way

I’m sensing that people have tired of the debate and have finally adopted a “what the hell, give the little guy a chance” attitude, which speaks more to laziness or the lack of endurance of a logical argument that was cogent in years past, but to which people have grown tired and are now overcompensating.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 26, 2010 2:43 PM CST up reply actions

I've adopted the "I don't give a damn" attitude about it

because I’ve finally come to the realization that in order to beat the BCS, we’re going to have to use the BCS. I still stand by the argument that Boise doesn’t have to get up week in and week out. I think anyone can win one or two tough games a year knowing they can coast through the rest of their schedule. However, I think the only way we’re going to move past this current system is to have one of the little guys finally win it all, so screw it. Let ’em play.

I'll be far more concerned if that quiets the doubters

Had Bama, Auburm, Oklahoma, hell Michigan played Boise’s schedule. they’d have a shot. Understand, it isn’t just about the opportunity to play (which is the erroneous mainstream argument), it is about wear and tear on a team. I would favor Boise in any post-season play for that alone.

must it irk Dan Hawkins that he left Boise for Colorado so that he could play for higher glory, only to find the football landscape has shifted enough for Boise to have an easier path to the title game than Colorado? Now he has no job at all.

BCS Bowls

If Bama wins, here is what we’re probably looking at:

National Championship: Boise State vs. Oregon
Rose: Wisconsin vs. Stanford
Sugar: South Carolina/Auburn vs. Ohio State
Orange: Va Tech vs. LSU/Alabama
Fiesta: Big 12 (Ok State) vs. Big East (West Va/UConn)

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 26, 2010 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

--AW--

by awiggo on Nov 26, 2010 3:24 PM CST up reply actions

We'll see

At this point, I’d be surprised if it were even close. Watching what’s happening in Tuscaloosa is furthering my sense that we’re going to see business as usual (which, from my biased point of view, means every evil team is going to be victorious). OU will win Bedlam, tOSU will destroy Michigan, etc.

by BrooklynHorn on Nov 26, 2010 3:30 PM CST up reply actions

Hold on there buddy.

Oregon still has a couple tough games left including the one tonight against Arizona.

by cj43 on Nov 26, 2010 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

Of course,

Oregon could still lose. Assuming they win out, that would be your scenario.

I’m also assuming that Wisconsin and Ohio State win too. And that Va Tech wins the ACC championship.

Lots of football left but that would be your most likely scenario.

--AW--

by awiggo on Nov 26, 2010 3:26 PM CST up reply actions

Too Interesting Then

That would mean current #1 Oregon, #2 Auburn both lose. The easy thought is then 3 vs. 4 would slide up—Boise and TCU. Not sure about that. There would be pressures for a BCS conference champ to grab at least one of those spots.

Could Auburn lose today and then jump back up to #2? Probably not.
Could Stanford slide up to #2? Maybe but they lost to Oregon so moving then ahead of the Ducks wouldn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Could Wisconsin jump all the way to #2? Maybe.
Could Ok State jump all the way to #2 with wins over OU and Nebraska? Maybe

I don’t have a clue.

--AW--

by awiggo on Nov 26, 2010 3:34 PM CST up reply actions

Oregon will win it all, IMO

Boise’s offense can probably almost keep up with Oregon, but Oregon-TCU would be a more competitive match-up due to TCU’s defense

plus

Auburn suffers from what I like to call “Red Sox syndrome.” See, the Yankees spend 5 times as much as everyone else and are perceived as evil because of it. The Red Sox, after decades of watching their rival do this year in and year out, watching their rival’s fans taunt them every year, finally spend more money to buy some elite players (less than the Yankees, mind you, but more than most), and now have to hear everyone bitch about how they’re evil too.

Auburn’s been putting up with a crooked brand of Alabama dominance for decades, and they have one controversy and they are being perceived as being just as crooked. I don’t condone any infractions, but I’m sympathetic to the escalation that is happening. Bama started this, damn it.

Oh my

Stoops Bros. better get some anger management before they suffer the same fate as papa:

And what of Ron Stoops Jr.? Well, he fell closest to the Stoops tree. Literally. Ron coaches football a mile or two away at Youngstown’s Cardinal Mooney preparatory school, as the late Ron Sr. had done for 28 years until his sudden passing in 1988 at the age of 54.

No fiction could better capture the events that occurred on that fateful October night. Cardinal Mooney was facing their arch-rivals from Boardman. The teams fought it out in a steady rain, dead even and destined for overtime. And who was up in the booth coaching Boardman’s defense? Why Ron Jr., of course. Ron Sr. left the sidelines late in the game with severe chest pains, and with his son by his side, he took his last breath in an ambulance moments after Mooney’s triple-overtime victory.

I believe the average comes in somewhere around there, but that doesn’t account for teams that sling the ball around like this. More passing = more incomplete passes = more clock stoppage = longer games.

I wouldn’t trust any source that says they know what Brown will do/ what he is thinking. No one knows but Brown. And Brown certainly would not share all this with another position coach. That is just laughable.

Remember Chip Kelly’s great source who told him we were absolutely, positively going to the PAC 10?

by SchruteFarm on Nov 26, 2010 9:22 PM CST up reply actions

Actually I have a source (I really do!) that knew someone close to Dodds. Texas never planned to leave, the biggest sticking point was the network. It was in the works and Belmont wasn’t giving in on that point. The weekend before, when Brown was breaking all the “big news” about the PAC 10 Commish coming to Okie and Texas the next few days and everyone was signing on…they had no idea where that was coming from. It wasn’t even close to the truth. Maybe the PAC 10 Commish thought he could get Belmont to give on the network, but that wasn’t going to happen.

What we have here is a failure to execute.

by dimecoverage on Nov 26, 2010 9:27 PM CST up reply actions

Big-12 prolly won't survive if Texas has its own network

The rest of the Big-12 would be worth next to nothing… who would watch the other crap (except for OU and OSU)

by SchruteFarm on Nov 26, 2010 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

As I understand it, the network won’t carry football unless they are games that no other network wants. That rarely, if ever, happens for the Horns. The Big 12-2 network contract will cover Texas FB. Texas will retain rights to games, I believe. Someone know exactly?

The network will carry all other sports so we will be able to watch Texas sports year-round. Hopefully all basketball and baseball games will be carried? Learned Hand usually keeps up with the money aspects. Maybe he can post something at some point.

Hey, the system is not perfect. But, it's better than the one we had. Um, really? Joe Paterno led 4 undefeated teams under the old system that were not National Champions. Agree

And when they play "anyone"" 5-7 times a year, allowing at least a chance they can slip up or endure some wear and tear, they will earn the right for greater accolades. Until then, Boise’s ranking is a slap in the face to those that do.

I think either system works better with a smaller pool of participants. If you eliminate the bottom half of contenders, the big boys don’t get as many cupcakes on the schedule and the process of weeding them out becomes decidedly less murky. Whether you are talking about 8/9 or 2/3.

I don't think Nevada's coach can see that far ... does he know they missed it?

My cousin says Boise's kicker bet on the Nevada moneyline LOL

FAIL twice to win it easy… UNBELIEVABLE

by SchruteFarm on Nov 27, 2010 12:55 AM CST reply actions

I was thinking they needed to score a TD

Because that kicker wouldn’t be ready to kick after failing like that. He got thrust out there and got owned again. So sad.

by TheElusiveShadow on Nov 27, 2010 12:55 AM CST reply actions

Wow. So close and yet so far.

So very very very far. I wondered what would happen to any of the undefeated teams left if they got tested in the 4th quarter of these late season games.. Auburn and Oregon hit the accelerator in the 4th. Boise St. floundered.

Yes, they are better than Boise, but what a joke.

seriously

I’m stoked that Nevada won, but I really feel for the guy. And at least people in Austin have other things to help take their mind off football screwups. Boise has nothing.

Two teams down 24-7 at half today in huge games ... both won.

And one kept a nat’l title hope alive while another ended the Spuds’.

you made a passive comment at half-time that 24-7 was the same score as Bama-Auburn.

So happy Boise lost. Reminds me of when we lost to CO in the Big 12 championship aAnd a win would have landed a spot in the MNC.

Not a good feeling. Makes me feel better about our abomination of a season. All day I have been envying when watching passes completed on the run and teams that can rush.

Not only are they out of the MNC hunt, but they also have likely lost a chance for the WAC title.

Ou/Osu

Cant believe how bad OSU’s secondary is…they are horrible and were gashed all night.

Its even more depressing knowing that we still couldnt pass against them.

Cant believe OU wins the south…their team is not even that good this yr.
