What Area of Team Are You Most Hopeful For in 2011?

With speculation of a 5-7 bowl appearance by UT pretty much over the only thing good about the 2010 football season is that it's mercifully over.  And while I'm always hopeful for my alma matter to improve and look forward to each new season I've gotta say that finding an area of the team, any area, a player, any player I'm excited about seeing make great contributions that lead to the championship-level football we've grown accustomed to on the 40 acres is difficult, to say the least.

I can't remember another season I've followed a football team in my entire life, be it at the college or professional level, that there's been literally nobody returning I looked forward to see play and know they'll make a positive impact.  But, I refuse to be hopeless, we've got lots of great (or so they say) incoming freshmen.  It'll be a struggle and will involve lots of Jack Handey pep talks, though.  Help me find something to look forward to seeing next fall by taking the following poll, and feel free to mention individuals you're particularly enthusiastic about:

Poll
In 2011 I'm most looking forward to:
Improvement from the returning offensive starters (Gilbert, Davis, Goodwin, C Johnson, Hopkins, Newton, Williams)
23 votes
Improvement from the returning defensive starters (E. Acho, Gideon, Vaccaro, Scott, Robinson, D Johnson)
5 votes
Returning special teams (Tucker, Davis, Phillips)
0 votes
Returning non-starters (McCoy, Wood, Hales, Matthews, Jones, D White, Hicks, AJ White, Byndom, Barnett)
14 votes
Incoming freshmen (Brown, Westerman, Reed, Shipley, Ash, Flowers, Greenlea, Burgeron, McFarland, Diggs, Edmond, Jackson, Turner, Scott, Evans, Moss)
33 votes
Departing coaches (McWhorter?, Davis?, Madden?, Other?)
69 votes
Fresh start, new attitude across the board, personnel & staff were fine, flush and forget

I want a good o-line.

I'll decide who I'm excited about once I see what new coaches come in

If we bring in a new WR coach, I’d be curious to see what Darius, Williams and Davis could be next year. Also, think about plugging in another Shipley to that equation. Could be nasty if we can teach these kids to catch and run routes.

A new OC/QB coach. I’d be very excited to see what Gilbert can do under somebody else. The guy was HS player of the year for a reason, because he’s talented. If we were to bring in somebody to help him regain his confidence and get him back to doing what he does best, it could be great.

A new O-line coach. We have the rivals stars at the position, now its just time for somebody to develop all of that potential into a force to be reckoned with. With O-line improvement, I see the QB and RB’s improving with em. Very curious to see what Malcom Brown brings in, if we have an O-line that can block for him.

Defensively. We need depth, obviously. I’m curious to see who moves where and which freshmen are able to make an immediate impact. I want to see if Phillips is able to replace some of the dead weight in our defensive backfield. What about Cobbs? It will be a young defensive unit, but its time for Muschamp, Akina and co. to earn their fat salaries and get the young guns ready to make an immediate impact and replace some of the vets that haven’t been pulling their weight.

Excitment will come once we know who will be here next year, coaches and players alike.

+1

It’ll be hard to get excited if there aren’t some upgrades on the coaching staff.

You mentioned

Newton in your returning starters. Sorry, he’s done.

I am excited for guys like Hicks, EAcho, Byndom, Hales, D White…

I feel positive about our O-line potential, but the secondary makes me want to puke. Yea, there were other extenuating circumstances with the secondary, but for a unit that was supposed to be so strong, they underachieved….monumentally.

Safety positions

Christian Scott could be least favorite Longhorn easy, he can’t play the pass, can’y play the run, and he’s not football smart. Against A&M, Scott got owned by Fuller on the fade, it made he laugh how poorly he played that, then Gray’s second big run, you can see Scott running up into the wrong gap on the outside for no reason and letting Gray blow by him. I think not having Earl Thomas exposed our secondary for being below-average but we somehow have 3 NFL caliber CBs or so they say.

According to every TV crew working a Texas game,

Chykie.

It was complete BS, but they claimed it—week-in, week-out.

Must be peyote,

that’s the only way I could fathom Chykie looking NFL quality

They all rode in with Willie,

Chykie is NFL star quality. GDGD is the most awesomest ohmygod gift to football ever and we should be soooooooo happy to keep him. Lucky even that he has stuck around with us this long. GG is the reincarnation of a young VY. Blah blah blah,,,,Willie Weed. Had to be. Must be.

Don't forget the maddog segment.

Remember when Gary Danielson was in love with Mackovic? FB announcers are like weathermen. They get paid whether they are right or wrong, just as long as they keep talking. Hope I didn’t offend anybody, but at least it won’t be the first time. Glad I’m a lawyer. Everybody loves us.

Announcers are just one of the reasons

I now have season tickets. I can’t stand the play calling of most of them and I find myself wondering way too often “Who in Gods name dressed you?”. An additional perk for actually being at the game is that we never actually see Greg Davis. He is hidden away in the press box with his crayons and jelly beans and crossword puzzles. That alone is worth the price of the tickets.

And I thought I was too mean.

Rock on, OMS. The jelly bean reference made me laugh. Maybe you’re also trying to tell us GD’s like Ronald Reagan. Bonzo’s pal always had a supply of jelly beans in his office, too. Jelly Belly’s. And RR and GD are also both very conservative. Very clever, OMS.

Maybe I can't see GD,

but I hope he was able to see me. He got the single finger salute many a times this season.

I think I saw him

on tv twice this year and that was 4 times too many. I tend to throw things his general direction. New ginormous tv , that was purchased 1/8/10 , is there because of him. Ok, well him and ,,no ,,pretty much just him. The Championship game did in the previous ginormous tv. So not only does the fact that he wakes up breathing every single day irritate me,,it costs me money. Is he gone yet?

Read here

If you read through the comments, there is a rumor that nearly everybody may be gone, including the Mackmister. Don’t bother reading any of the comments before 8:00 pm as its mostly bull shit and bickering.

I know people have been knocking on rumor speculation on BON, but I enjoy it quite a bit and it has been a welcome distraction from the Psych and Bio tests that are going to violate me tmr.

Yeah, the Maddog segment was awsome

Almost as good as when we get to see the announcers and TV crew play their touch football game before the real one.

The area around their collective asses.

I am hopeful that they find a way to get them into gear.
