Has Garrett Gilbert seen David Carr?

I am a Garrett Gilbert fan and think he is the guy to be behind center for the future.  However, with the way the season is going, Mack Brown needs to bench him for the rest of the season before GG turns into David Carr.  Whether it's the Offensive Line or the Offensive Coordinator, what they have Gilbert doing isn't working this season.  He needs to be on the bench learning before he gets too shell-shocked and he is ruined.

Again, I am not a bandwagon, fair-weather fan.  The season is done in terms of finishing on a high-note.  We need to focus on next year.

Wow....

What have u seen to make u believe he is the QB of the future? Outside of all the hype and HS awards? What have u seen actually on feild? Its not just play calling. True, GD sucks. But he isnt out there over/underthrowing guys, throwing behind the wrs, throwing picks, throwing almost picks, tipped balls. GG is as much to blame as is GD. He is not playing good, and that was a very generous statement. The QB position needs to be open for competetion at seasons end. I have nothing against GG, but he is underperforming (another very generous statement) and I want the best QB to play for this University. Colt2, CW, GG it really doesnt matter to me I want better play from the QB. Maybe being benched will spark him, maybe having his position up for grabs will bring the best out of him. Right now he needs to be benched, not to protect him, but because he is playing very poorly.

Because Mack is more afraid of a QB controversy and damaging GG's ego than of losing.

Of course dropped passes, fumbles, stupid penalties, conservative play-calling, lack of a running game, missed tackles, lousy special teams play, and poor blocking have all contributed, but this season by and large has been sacrificed in an effort to getting Garrett Gilbert “up to speed.” Do we have anyone better? Who knows? I guess we won’t find out, because if McCoy comes in and plays great, people will ask why wasn’t he given a chance 4 or 5 games ago.

He is simply put NOT ACCURATE

If you look at the game again, 90% of his passes are flying right over his player’s heads. I can’t count how many times players have to JUMP just to get a fingertip on his balls, only to watch them sail past anyway.

The kid has ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NO TOUCH on the football whatsoever.

McCoy

Mack said after the game that he asked for McCoy to be put in with 7 minutes left in the 4th. Apparently, McCoy wasn’t “loose” enough and didn’t have time to warm up. WTF would happen if Gilbert had been hurt??

by BigJohnson on Nov 7, 2010 11:21 AM CST up reply actions

We are so bad, we can't even give the backup QB enough notice to get warm to go into the game.

I would of had him throwing after every offensive possession after the 3rd INT.

Give Somebody else a Chance To Play!!

Play McCoy, every year mack says he will give the 2nd QB some reps, why was yesterday not a good time to do it, I bet McCoy would not have done any worse, 5, if you did not read it right, I said 5 int’s, how can a QB not get benched after that, if I was McCoy or Wood I would look to transfer, they will sit on the bench no matter what “THE FRANCHISE QB” does, it s____!!!

Why do you hate .s ?

Periods. Without them, you seem dumb.

In all seriousness, I don’t think either of those guys (Case,Wood) want anything to do with this season. For all we know Case was on the sideline telling Mack or GD that he wasn’t ready. How do we know? How can we be sure that Mack isn’t just taking the bullets from fans for the young guy and not exposing him as completely unprepared and probably too nervous to step foot on that field? To sit here as fans and question the goings on of a collegiate football team as if we are more informed than coaches or players of said team, is just dumb.

And regarding your comments about either or both of them wanting to transfer: Don’t you think they knew exactly what the situation was at Texas before they committed? These young guys signed with us knowing good and well that they would be sitting behind Gilbert. Hell, they were probably more sure that they would sit back then than they are now. Mack doesn’t lie to recruits. Not one bit. Never. He tells them straight up what it is. That’s why he’s such a great recruiter. It’s why we “miss” on some of the highly coveted recruits- he tells them exactly what they don’t want to hear. What can you do for Texas…

Blurting out uninformed nonsense does no good.

Does it matter?

Whether I was directly quoting a Texas player and coach, or just giving my opinion, why does that matter? If I were to tell you exactly where I heard it I don’t see how that would be any different than just giving my opinion about a subject.

And therein lies a problem.

There is a difference between information from an informed source and having an opinion.

It's simple math...

If you take GG out and McCoy gets similarly rushed behind a collapse OL, then it’s not GG

If you take GG out and McCoy all of a sudden makes our WRs look great, then it’s GG

Everyone wants to spread the blame & I’m telling you that that GD was made to look good by VY and Colt. It’s kinda odd that Shipley, who is a great WR, was able to catch GG’s ball, but yet Kirk, Davis, Williams, etc all have them go thru the fingers or turn it into a tip drill. Maybe Jaxon will be GG’s savior?

Before giving up on a talent like GG, let’s realize that there is more going on than him under or over throwing at times. I think his confidence is dwindling each game AND Mack needs to make the switch. The season is done so try and save the few players you can for next year…
