CLEAN SLATE - exactly what was needed!

All year we've heard numerous comments from insiders and outsiders about the complacency and sense of entitlement that has become a part of Longhorn Football.  I know my view may be unorthodox, but I think that the massive coaching exodus is the best thing that could've happened and what is needed to rid the program of the "primadonna" attitude that has plagued the players and the coaches for quite some time.

I predict that what we'll see next year is a hungrier, scrapier, and more determined team that will play with reckless abandon and a underdog attitude (two years removed from the NC game, no less!)  I don't understand why everyone thinks that Muschamp's departure is a great loss.  The pre-season was full of accolades and headlines for this highly touted defense (ranked #1 in the country by many experts!) that, in my opinion, underachieved worse than the offense!!  This was the year the defense was supposed to carry the load...instead, they dumped a big load on the entire program! The secondary was pretty much in tact from last year and was run over by the likes of Iowa State and UCLA! Logically, this falls on the DC.

With a Randy Shannon hire looming, and with Major at OC, I think the Horns will surprise many.  A whole new batch of hungry/motivated assistants will come in to guide/prepare tons and tons of talent that Texas has.  Watch for Malcolm Brown to have a Marcus Lattimore-type impact on the Horns' offense next year which will allow Gilbert to settle down and do his job.  I don't care what people say about this young man...he has the arm and the ability to carry this team if complemented by good playcalling, supporting cast, and a powerful running game.  The problem is that we got so used to "miracle-worker"-QB's like Vince and Colt that overcame the incompetence of Greg Davis.  Does anyone remember the candid admission in 2004 by GD and MB after the OU 12-0 debacle that they just "let Vince loose."?  They rode the talent as much as they could...often getting into disasterous situations (see Okie State comebacks and the NC game in 2005), before simply letting go. Gilbert is a great QB...much better than the Matt Stafford's, Mitch Mustain's, Ryan Perriloux's of the HS lot.  He just needs a COACH who can call plays! He may not be a "miracle-worker" QB like VY and Colt...but with the right offensive scheme he can be great!

Stay tuned...I smell a BCS appearance next year.  How incompetent Greg Davis was will become apparent next year when the offense starts churning again.
