Let's get it to 1000 again
For the BON newbies, the championship game thread for last season surpassed 1000 comments.
For a volleyball match.
An epic, and ultimately heartbreaking, volleyball match.
Let’s root for a better result tonight.

Did that outstrip the men's tennis championship thread?
That was a pretty epic thread as well, which I enjoyed, being a huge tennis fan.
I missed that one

Confessions of Hopkins Horn
I guess this could have gone in that “Getting To Know You Thread” a couple of weeks back.
I played varsity volleyball in high school. My undergrad school (JHU) didn’t have a men’s team, so I took it upon myself to start one. (Damn Title IX [jk!] — had to settle for a club team.)
It was one of my best achievements as an undergrad. Got school approval and some funding, recruited players, held tryouts, found a coach, reached out to other teams in the area (and this was the pre-internet era, mind you) and set up a schedule, and played and won our first match, all within a month of starting my efforts.
And what did I learn from all this?
That I was the 12th to 15th best player at the school.
I didn’t even get to play on my own team.
Don't click here. I might be promoting myself with frequently-changing photos from my portfolio. Or I might be linking to my favorite photos of Mark Mangino. You never know.
I hope you are around to give us some insight into the details of the volleyball game. This is a sport that I don’t know much about.

I hope to be...
…but some of my moving efforts might be away during the game.
Here’s the weird thing for me. Volleyball is a tough game to follow as a fan — it’s not on TV very much. I drifted away after college, playing some rec leagues from time to time.
All of a sudden I look up this decade and the rules are so different from what they were when I was active 20 years ago.
It’s as if I played football competitively in 1990, took some time off from the game, and tuned back into a game which had adopted Canadian Football League rules. I mean, it’s essentially the same game, but some of the rule changes are just hard to comprehend when you learned it a completely different way. Just like it’s hard to watch a CFL game and accept the fact that there are three downs in stead of four and that the endzones are 30 yards deep and that there’s something called a “rouge,” the fact that scoring in volleyball changed from 15-a-set, scoring only on serve, to 25-a-set, scoring on every point, is quite a change. There’s something called a “libero” which i haven’t quite gotten my mind wrapped around properly. And it appears one can serve from anywhere behind the end line, while we were restricted to the rightmost third of the back court space for our serves.

Also...
…I have a weird set-up in my house right now. My laptop is all but broken, and my main computer is not in TV view currently, so posting and watching at the same time is tough. This move can’t get here quickly enough.

how do you like our chances? Obviously Penn State is a really tough opponent.
We go in as the clear underdog
But we have a fighting chance

We are for sure the underdog but
after watching this team this year i give them a chance against anyone. i am friends with Juliann but i never thought they could be back in the final 4 after losing destinee hooker and ashley engle off last years team.

…I can’t comment on who in particular might be performing particularly off, but there’s not much going on right now to give me confidence. PSU’s able to get every ball easily set to where they need it to be. Again, it’s like we’re running some practice drills for them right now.

I went to the debacle that was the Nebraska-Texas match this year
And was really impressed with the atmosphere at Gregory Gym. Never been to Lincoln for a vb game, but I’ve heard Gregory is the only place in the Big 12 that comes close.
Anyway, I’m rooting for UT tonight (rooting for PSU volleyball is just wrong), and hopefully I’ll get back to Gregory for a match next year – this time wearing Horns gear.
Don’t let ’em overwhelm you here, Horns. Salvage some dignity in the first set, then come back and take the second.
Are you here to make us all fell guilty about rooting for the Land Thieves in the Big 12-2 title game? :-)

It wasn't bad for an Indy film.
Having watched them all in a row, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull fits in fairly well with the absolutely ridiculous situations Indy gets in.
That said, it was much too lighthearted and alien-centric.

Well, rats.
I’m just seeing this thread now…was watching some of Cal vs. USC.
Too bad for the ‘Horns. Still though, they had a magnificent season, beating the odds and making it all the way to Kansas City. Almost all of this team is returning next year, though. We should be very strong in 2011 as long as we can get one or two ladies outside hitting to replacing Faucette. That look on J’s face after match point broke my heart, though. Poor gal. She’s a stud for leading the team this far.
