A look back at the good times
It's been a rough year. That rough year is almost over. Thank God.
Fortunately, we're still Texas. 2011 can be better (and if it's not, there will be a serious problem). That being said, I realized that a look at all the good memories from the last few years wouldn't be the worst thing for everybody.
To a better 2011!

Thanks for the good memories and the positive attitude. We are Texas and we will be back.
What we have here is a failure to execute.

Don't click here. I might be promoting myself with frequently-changing photos from my portfolio. Or I might be linking to my favorite photos of Mark Mangino. You never know.

Like Mack,
I think I’ve aged 5 years since that game
Btw,
24/7 sports just pulled out on the Austin to DC story. Who in the hell is there left out there to hire? This is getting ridiculous. If we have to wait til January to get coordinators then they better be from teams playing in the BCS or I’m sending my therapy bill to daddy Deloss
going out on a limb here
Wade Phillips?

You're not alone on that thought, Paleface
When I read the fanshot posted a little while back about Mack saying the hire will be a “big surprise” that’s the first name I thought. Personally, I would love it. Failed as a HC, but Phillips was a hell of a coordinator. I think it would be a quality hire.

One factor that makes me think it's not Wade,
is that there would be no reason to wait to announce him, at least that I can think of. Is it possible that we’re forgetting some sort of bureacratically required waiting period, like something related to when the openings were posted? I’m starting to think, and I think it’s already been suggested somewhere in a thread or two, that Mack is playing to his strong suit, which is getting players to the pros. Actually, I think Golden suggested something along those lines. Mack can sell a guy like Wade as someone who knows the ins and outs of the NFL and what it takes to go from college to the pros. But why in the hell would Wade take the job? Maybe he feels his chances of another pro HC job are slim and none, but that he could land a HC job at a premier college program. Wade Phillips, DC and HCIW? Hiring Wade could be shrewd move for Mack in the short run, but I really don’t see Wade as HC at UT. Comparing Muschamp (and maybe Smart) to Phillips suggests the question: As a genreralization, do you need an elder statesman that can sell the program as a step to the pros or a fiery young stallion that can chest bump with the best of ‘em? You’re a few years removed from the current class of HS seniors, but I bet you have some good insight.

I don't think you can draw a line in the sand
and say which one is better. I think there are merits to both, but at the end of the day, it’s how the coach carries himself. He can be a young firey chest bumper, but if it’s not genuine and just an act to artificially motivate the players, the players will pick up on it and it’ll wear thin very soon. On the other hand, if the coach is an elder statesman and has his skins on the wall, it will only go so far if the players get the vibe that the game has passed him by. Ultimately, I think its just a matter of how much respect the coach commands and whether he can sit down in the living room and convince both the player that he’s going to a good situation and the mom that her baby is going to get taken care of.

Could you imagine if we end up with...
…Wade Phillips and Josh McDaniel haha. I don’t know if I’d be happy, sad, unconscious or what. That would be a big surprise, but other than those two, I’m having trouble getting to where I think it would be a surprise.
No way
He’s a true SEC guy. I think he’s gon’ be a Gater her soon.
If you were Kirby,
would you rather go work for Muschamp, who’s never been an HC, at a school where you will most likely have to move out to move up, or go to work for an experienced HC who may not be HC for many more years at one of the premier programs in the country? Not arguin’, just askin’.

If I were Kirby,
I go work with my best friend, a guy who knows me and puts me in the best position to succeed. Then after one year, once Richt gets pushed out, I take the HC position at my alma matter. Muschamp wants him, even if it’s a one year rental and I’d jump all over that if I were Smart (no pun intended) given the chance. Think about the revival of the biggest cocktail party if two former UGA players face off, compelleing stuff. I think Florida and Georgia would want this scenario to play out.
I’m not arguing either. I just don’t think it makes much sense for a guy to leave his comfort zone (come to the Big 12) when he’s in line to take a job in it. I’d be more than happy with you being correct, any apprentice of Saban I’m a fan of, I just don’t think Smart would leave the SEC.
I think its been evident with both Muschamp and Smart that Richt’s time at UGA is going to come to a close here soon. I believe nearly every thing Muschamp says, but if the UGA job would’ve opened up, I think he would’ve gone, Florida wasn’t the only place he would’ve left UT for. Smart is now in prime position to take UGA and getting out from Saban’s wing might be the best way to prove himself (or disprove depending on how he does) for the job.
Reports are that the coordinators have been hired. Posting the job description was just the final step. Brown doesn’t actually need or want anyone to apply.
Who that exactly is isn’t known and won’t be until Brown wants it out there. Inside Texas still has Austin as DC, but who knows. Bellmont could be blowing smoke just to distract everyone. That was definitely the case with Randy Shannon.

This thing is going to make me have a nervous break down
I’m worried about if what I’m hearing from somebody, who’s hearing from somebody, who heard something from somebody else’s garder’s dog’s first owner is true.
I can’t remember what DSM it is under, but I’m getting dangerously close to Panic Attacks.

We ain't the ain'ts yet
And thanks for the welcome back a few days ago, I’m always late on checking my old posts. I need to work on that, kinda like Mack needed to check on his old coaches. Bout to be on a ski trip for a bit but I’ll be in to give my exaggerated assessment of the times at hand as much as possible.
You just need to be more self-absorbed.
If you were as self-absorbed as I am, you would go back and re-read all of your old posts every day!

Awesome compilation!
Yeah, we’ll be right back on top. Everybody relax. God loves his Longhorns.
Quan’s hit on that sooner will never get old to me. Just destroyed him.
As much misery as it would put me in, I’d love to see you post a compilation of the bad times too.
No!
Just go back and rewatch the 2010 season.
I guess '05, '08, & '09 were pretty happy endings to the earlier frustrations.
2010 still doesn’t have a happy ending yet.

I’d rather never see Irby’s knee graphically contorted ever again. shudder
I'm a little myopic,
