I'm not holding my breath for Malzahn
I just can’t see why he wouldn’t be in the market for a HC position. Holgorson and Harsin would see this job as a decent step up, and failing those guys, Mack may want someone he is comfortable working with (Brewster or even Applewhite).
Yeah, I asked that in the main thread
I’m not sure he’s likely to drop to coordinator of a college team, but the timing is there, and he’s respected as far as offensive play goes. Keep his hands off the top decisions and the defense, and maybe there’d be business.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

He'll draw more than $1 million as an OC in the NFL
he won’t drop down.

Like I also said in the other thread, I think it's highly unlikely
The money’s certainly an issue. Of course, so are his hubris and involvement in scandals.

and frankly
I question his talent evaluation when he takes Tim Tebow in the first round . He made a mess out of Denver and left it in worse shape than when he found it.

I fail to see how this raises the price
Texas: Hey Gus, wanna come coach for us?
Malzahn: Yeah, but it’s gonna cost you. Yesterday it would’ve been a cool million, but today it’ll be $1.2 million. Annually. And half of Mack Brown’s sandwich.
Texas: Oh? Why did it go up today?
Malzahn: Well, you may or may not have heard, but I just won the Broyles Award. That means I’m the top assistant coach in the nation.
Texas: Pffft. We fire Broyles Award-winners.

It's easy to win
When you have a guy like Cam Newton at the helm….Look at GD with VY….
Not saying he is a bad coordinator, just saying things are circumstancial.
How about with Chris Todd at the helm?

You mean
The 3-5 in the SEC, 8-5 overall team? Again, fits the QB really.
Not saying Malzahn is a good or bad coordinator, merely pointing out GD could have pulled off a pretty solid year with Newton at the helm
The team had that record mostly because of the defense, not the offense

Dude
They averaged 18 points in their loses. That’s not all on the defense. Stop looking at things from a single perspective, like your argument about JS on the other page.
There is more than one argument to these debates. The fact is Malzahn is still an unknown. He could be great, and if UT gets him I hope to the high heavens he is a stud. On the other hand, he could be just average and we will find that out as well soon enough.
SpiritOfTheFedora….I do think its a little give and take between the two, but yes in general players make the coaches. There is a reason teams with powerhouse recruiting struggle so rarely, and when they do things like this shakeup happen.
I'm not biting on the hoopla surrounding Malzahn
Show me some consistency as in when Newton’s not around anymore. Great players make great coaches, not the other way around. GD has proven that.

I’ll take Holgorsen befor Malzahn any day. Either of them would likely be okay, but I want the guy that made an offensive powerhouse out of the junk he inherited at OSU. Seriously, that team used to have Robinson, Okung, Pettigrew, and Bryant, and they were never as impressive as they were this year. I’ve said it before, the only difference between Blackmon and Malcolm Williams is coaching. And maybe some natural catching ability.
The thing about Holgorsen is...
If he can do what he did this year at OSU, I think it’s pretty much a given he could be successful in UT’s environment.
However, I don’t know if we can get him. OSU has money too, and they’re likely very happy with their coach right now.
Are we willing to make him the top paid OC in the country?
It's a thoughtful list
with some names I hadn’t heard before.
But it’s totally unsubstantiated. They could have included Leach or June Jones — those are as likely as some of the names the Statesman lists.
Is 32 too young? No. Is Mack willing to wait until after the Rose Bowl and/or MNC game? Of course; it’s not like the new OC is going to be instructing players in December or the first two weeks of January. (Has anyone seen our bowl practice schedule yet?)
I think recruiting is the one really solid argument for an earlier timeframe
Although that doesn’t really mean that they’ll move it up any.
