2010 Orange-White Spring Game
Need information for my LONGHORN Wife.
I'm unable to find any information about the upcoming spring game. All I have been able to find out is that is on Eastern Weekend and that the ticket office says the event is free.
However, I would like to know more if my wife and kids are going to make the drive from Oklahoma City.
Like:
What is the date and time?
Is it really free?
Does the stadium fill up?
Reason for the concern is that at OU only about 25% of the stadium fills up, but when I went to the Nebraska Spring game, it was sold out (tickets are $10.)
Thank you for your help. Go Huskers!

Its worth the drive!!
My Wife and I made tne drive from OKcity last year and it was way worth the long drive…we didnt have to pay to get in the stadium cause its free, but it was hot like nobody’s business at last years game so u will end up having to buy drinks like we did…I’d say the stadium was about 45% full, and the crowd is much more enthusiastic than in norman or stillwater
All I want for Christmas is for Texas to move to the SEC and destroy those overrated chumps!!!

No problems
Easy to get in, just walk in and sit down. Stadium won’t be over half full, especially because of Easter. I think Nebraska filled theirs up because of Pellini. That and there’s nothing else to do up there. You would know better than I, Husker br’a.
I drive 6 hours to attend annually
And it is a great time. Plenty for the kids to do – Bevo makes the appearance and the kids love that. Cheerleaders, some players accessible for photos etc. You can basically sit in great seats and absolutely free. Other highlights include the team walking in the stadium through the crowd. The downside – The choice of Easter weekend though was absolutely beyond idiotic. I probably will not be able to make it this year. Secondly, you will see advertisements that show rides that will make it look like a carnival for the kids – when reality it will be 2-3 slides. Still a good time, but the pictures may make it look more than it really is. I do have to say – it is a must see and I really do not understand why the stadium just isn’t packed. Free Longhorn football? It doesn’t get better than that.
I thought it was somewhat lame
Free yes, but you kind of get what you pay for.
Last year was my first time. I drove up from Houston and took my 4 y.o. nephew and niece. The day was very windy, so they had the blow up slides for the kids inside the stadium at the north endzone. There was very little to the “carnival.” Very little!! We waited in line, and when it was their turn the operater let the air out and said it was too windy they were stopping. Very uncool to a bunch of little kids waiting.
There was nothing else for the kids so they were bored. We went into the stadium and sat on the west side. The crowd didn’t even fill 50% of the west side lower deck. A big area was roped off for recruits-underclassmen, and they all came in and watched.
The players ran through drills and the whole time this really awful music was playing. I am probably showing my age, but if you go to www.bobstoops.com and listen to the music after all the interviews of coaches and former players you will hear the type of music. It was killing me. I’m sure it is what the young recruits like, but it really was torture for me and I’m not that tired or old.
I did sit behind the Dunbar trio and I got to feel the bad mojo vibe of what I later learned was the Favors fiasco. D. White sure did have a great relationship with his mother though.
On one of the interviews on the official website Coach Brown said that it is unfortunate that it is on Easter Sunday afternoon this year – it is out of scheduling necessity but he did not elaborate on why that was.
It is ok fun if you are really die hard, but I’m not going on Easter Sunday. I wish it was on TV because I would at least watch it.
I'm a little surprised that it's on Easter
But I’m also surprised that it sounds like that’s going to stop a lot of people from going to it. Thanksgiving doesn’t seem to stop people from going to the rivalry game, although I grant that a real game would be a bigger draw. Easter, though…c’mon, most people just give the kids a basket, hunt for eggs, and a few might go to church, but most people are done well in time for something like this, right?
I have beat wholesale ass for a whole lot less.

You could be right
I have to admit that the only thing I do on Easter anymore is take my daughter hunting for Easter eggs. My protestant family was a bit…devout.

Easter is a church day for me with the folks in Houston
The Spring Game is in the afternoon this year to help accomodate the church goers, but I just can’t make it from Kingwood to Austin in time and then turn around and drive back.
Last year the south endzone was under some construction too, which I think caused some changes. And, like I said, it was really, really windy which made them have to change and cancel some things.
If I lived in or closer to Austin I would go again, but to drive 3 or 4 hours is just tough on a Sunday afternoon.
Originally I thought for sure the April 4 date was a mistake, but when I heard Coach Brown encouraging families to come out after church and enjoy the aftrnoon I knew it wasn’t changing.
Carnival? Jamboree
In my former life, I helped IMG promote this for UT. All those pictures are actual pictures from previous events. For no cost, you get access to 3 rides, free stuff, face painting, balloons, etc. One year, we even had a kiddie concert. I can’t say what happened last year, but I too don’t understand why more people don’t make it down.
I will say that it’s usually Final Four weekend and this year, Easter.
I feel like a bit of a Debbie Downer
I would love to go again and I do encourage everyone that can make it to go and support our team. But if you are talking that kind of mileage and drive I want to be truthful about my experience last year. I will definitely go again in the future, but I’m not making the drive from Houston and back on Easter Sunday this year. It is too bad about the schedule.
Screw the kids.
My friends and I take our yearly “Guys weekend” during the Spring Game. Strip clubs, 6th street, etc. Great times. Don’t bring your damn kids.
God, my nieces and nephews would kill me
If I dragged them to another city to see a football game with college kids, nevermind a glorified scrimmage lol.
In-VINCE-able.
