The NFL Combine Is A Strange, Interesting Place
No time to write out anything in full right now, but over the past two days I've spoken with Adam Ulatoski, Trent Williams, Jevan Snead, Brandon Carter (most interesting by far), Danario Alexander, and Dez Bryant, to name a few. I'm sending periodic updates through my Twitter account, but a full write up on all these guys will have to wait -- at least until after Shipley and McCoy make their way out to meet the press.
My Combine Diary from Day 1 is up at SBNation.com.

It boggles my mind
that a sportswriter would complain about having to write more often. For the last couple months I have worked more than 40 hours a week at my job and then spent most of my other waking moments writing about the Longhorns. Having the opportunity to write full time is an absolute dream and yet these people complain because they have to crank out more than 2,400 words per week?

You will be there.
Having the opportunity to write full time is an absolute dream
Just be sure and let us all know when and where.
Great Stuff Peter!

Great read PB . . .
. . . but I would recommend calling out Cranky Old Media Guy by name. Sounds like he deserves it, and it would be a service to the readers of his newspaper. Plus, don’t think for a second Cranky Old Media Guy wouldn’t call you out by name if he thought you were acting unprofessionally at the Combine or anywhere else he decided to read his novel.

Mine, too.
This guy is a top draft choice. Amazing.

Did not know this:
Jordan Shipley has never been timed in the 40 in his life. #NFLCombine will be the first time ever.

i somehow really really doubt this.

His Texas teammates called him the most deceptively fast guy on the team last season. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash in high school (for comparison’s sake, Welker ran a 4.6 at Texas Tech’s pro day), but how much has he improved? "I don’t know how fast I am," Shipley told the Abilene Reporter-News last month. "I haven’t run the 40 in so long."

What's your source on that?
Because I stood there with Jordan today and asked, “You’ve really never been timed in the 40?” and he said, “Never. I never have.”
You ain't hurt...

how do you get through highschool, through college, and on your way to the combine never knowing your 40 time? that just seems too incredible to me.
and they’re citing this article http://www.reporternews.com/news/2010/jan/30/no-headline—-jaklewicz_on_shipley/ from the abilene reporter news.

Draft Scout puts up projected numbers for 40 times - some are hilariously wrong post combine
And no, it’s doesn’t seem that incredible to me. The timed 40 (as distinguished from a wind sprint in which a stopwatch may have been involved) is a creature of combines (high school/college and professional), not football practice.
Why would he lie?

they cite an article that cites shipley…
and just because it’s a creature of a combine doesn’t mean that kids don’t run 40s when they’re not at a combine…

Good to hear some positives about the Niners' management
Needless to say, as a Niners fan in Austin, I tend to not hear anything close to complimentary about them. I thought Singletary was just what they needed. I’m still hoping they’ll pick up some more Longhorns. Tarell Brown seems pretty lonely out there. Good stuff, PB.
Every time I feel down and depressed, I think of seven simple words by a true wise man, Matt Leinart: "I still think we're the better team" and I usually end up hurting myself by laughing so hard.
PB really pissed off some Buffalo bills fans with the Gailey-Mediocrity comment
I was surprised by the magnitude of their reaction on this thread. The statement was funny because it’s true.
