No. 17 -- Garrettt Greenlea to Texas
Klein Collins offensive tackle Garrett Greenlea has been one of the fastest-rising offensive line prospects in the state and though it took some time for him to register on the Texas recruiting radar, when the Longhorns offered on Saturday afternoon, Greenlea accepted.
Of the four tackle prospects committed, Greenlea has the biggest and most college-ready frame and is a monster in the running game. His commitment gives the Longhorns all five of the top line prospects in the state and makes them a perfect five for five in securing commitments from in-state prospects.
The next question is whether there is another spot open for either Matthew Hegarty or Christian Westerman and only the coaches know the answer to that question, but the best guess here is that there is because those two are simply too talented to pass up on. Stay tuned.

Wow
“His commitment gives the Longhorns all five of the top line prospects in the state and makes them a perfect five for five in securing commitments from in-state prospects.”
It is good to be the King, part deux.
A&M signed the best oline class ever last year though… how can we have all 5 of the top linemen in Texas this year?

Some good news to take away from our bball team's continued disappointment.

Not to get cocky
But my Aggie brother-in-law asked me to let him know when A&M can start recruiting. LOL. He said they are waiving white flags for a reason.
I cannot remember a better time for the Longhorn program. oUTstanding.
My fault
I thought you meant the athletics as a whole. In 2005 football and baseball won a national championship. The b-ball team was much better as well. The recruiting is on another level right now for UT football. UT is going for their 3rd straight bad a$$ class! I think Muschamp was one of the best hires in UT history.

So is Diggs' commitment expected soon?
How can an elite Texas RB not make a commitment soon?

Hopefully on Diggs
I guess it’s possible he could wait to make a decision, but it doesn’t seem likely. It would also seem unlikely for him not to receive an offer. Every time I get a text from the Inside Texas Twitter feed I expect it to be about Diggs.

Yeah one or two
I would imagine they would offer the top guy on the board rather than offer two and take the first two commit, but it’s hard to say.

They will stay on Turner
Walls is probably on the outside looking in at this point, which is too bad because I really like him, but I think the coaches want someone who can play both safety and cornerback and Walls is a safety all the way.
If I had to pick one guy at the Junior Day, I think that Marquis Jackson gets an offer as a defensive back, but not sure if he wants to play there. I think the coaches would probably ask him about that before offering him and if he wants to play receiver they might not offer.

Say Yes to Westerman and Hegarty
Take 7 and redshirt 3 or 4. In essence – will be a jump start on 2012 recruiting.
That's the good part
Now we can start redshirting some of these guys in the OL. I think we have 5 now-Greenlea, Flowers, Doyle, Cochran and Hutchins. I’d take the last two and be able to go 2-deep with quality in the OL. Even MacWhorter wouldn’t be able to screw that up.

Greenlea looks pretty slim and fit for being so big
When he hits our weight training program he will be putting on solid lbs.
Does Coach Brown really have on burnt orange shoelaces or is that my monitor? I’m surprised Sally didn’t Bedazzle them with some burnt orange horns.
Ah, good point
Completely forgot about Drango. I guess it’s possible that he could fall with the evaluation of the Texas coaching staff not a positive one. I should have said that they got commitments from their top five targets.
by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Feb 27, 2010 3:46 PM CST up reply actions
I knew there had been speculation about
the Texas evaluation of him, with the no offer…I just thought that maybe you had additional info on him falling elsewhere.
Probably all four stars
and Flowers a possibility for a five star. Cochran and Doyle are probably at the lower end of the range for four stars and it’s hard to say with Hutchins because the athleticism is clearly there but the weight just isn’t at the moment. If he can add 15-20 pounds of muscle by the time the final rankings come out, I think his stock would improve quite a bit.

Cochran and Doyle
I would think they would be the 3 star players just going by everything I’ve heard on recruiting sites. I think Doyle takes a hit b/c of his injury. I’m glad to hear they all might be atleast 4 star players. i was worried about Cochran and Doyle.
by Longhorns84 on Feb 27, 2010 11:44 PM CST up reply actions
Now that I think about it more
I think both Cochran and Doyle are borderline, but I’m not really sure how their collective upsides play into the rankings, particularly Cochran, who has a great frame, but quite a ways to go to get it ready for the college game.

Hegarty Offered Also
http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/entries/2010/02/27/hegarty_offered.html?cxntfid=blogs_bevo_beat?cxtype=rss_longhorns
Statesman reporting Hegarty wants to check out Notre Dame and Cal next month, and will make a decision shortly thereafer. He loved his visit.
Sounded like it from some of the quotes I saw.
Don’t know what the timetable is with Westerman, but all these developments could force him to make a decision a little more quickly than maybe he had planned if he’s really interested in having a shot at being a Longhorn and I think he does.
Also interesting that the Statesman is finally realizing that they need to cover recruiting more than once a year.

The hope is that UT's facilities and reception stick in his mind when he sees ND and Cal
Cal doesn’t exactly have top-tier facilities, and while Notre Dame has plenty of money, I’m actually not sure how their facilities stack up. I’ve heard the stadium itself isn’t in the greatest condition.

What are the numbers for 2011?
I realize that can change by the end of next season, but how many are we looking at now? What is the max number for this class? Sorry if you have addressed this before, but I probably missed it.
Could go 25 if necessary I guess
but I think 23 is probably a good number. If attrition this spring goes past two, which would put Texas under the scholarship limit, that could push the class to 25.

Our current players are getting a taste of NFL roster issues
With numbers tight and a lot of young talent wanting access, it seems that the current guys have a little more pressure to be game ready or progressing properly. Coach Brown said nobody has been late to practice and they graded constantly. I’m sure it is stressful, but it also is has you win a NC.
Did Antwon Cobb from Pflugerville leave?
He was messing up my numbers, I don’t see him on the roster. Must have missed something. If so, where did he go?

Cobb is leaving.
It was announced, I believe, during the first Junior Day weekend. It was phrased as ongoing issues with injuries, but I thought Cobb played in every game in 2009.
I think we’ll be seeing more of this — OK but non-starting, non-rotational players who redshirt as freshmen but end up not getting the fifth year. My sense is that Mack feels the school’s commitment has been fulfilled when the player completes four years. If the player wants a fifth year, he has to be able to make a significant contribution on the field.
I guess Greenlea didn't have to think to hard on Oklahoma
Man he has a great frame, though. If he could graduate early and be here for the spring and summer he would be in a great position to contribute as a freshman based off size alone.

Am I Missing Something? These posts aren’t showing up on the main board. I am finding them actually wiht links via other sites?
I'm asking about configuration.
I get most of the other postings, but for some reason these Fan Shots don’t ring up on the main Fan Shot Board under my login. ??? Had the same issue with a couple of PB’s as well. They will show when I click to this link from another site. For example if someone has put this post as a link on their site then I can open it, but it still doesn;t appear on the main Fan Shot Directory.
Am I making any sense?
Mine is working fine
Up above at the beginning of comments bar (which is burnt orange and horizontal) does your “display box” say ""expanded" and then a check mark in autorefresh? Maybe that got changed for your displaying view.
So besides Reed, Brown, Westerman, Diggs, Hegarty. Who else are we really trying to pursue in getting?
Turner and probably Vaughters.
Not sure how much interest there still is in Wallace and I think he may decide to go to Oklahoma if Shannon gets an OU offer and commits — their respective decisions may end up being tied and Shannon isn’t going to get a Texas offer and Wallace doesn’t fill much of a need at this point.

Are we really down to taking only one RB?
What is plan B if we whiff on Brown?

Not entirely sure on that
but I don’t think there is a major need for two backs in the class. It may come down to how the numbers at other positions shake out. I’ll have some thoughts up on Tuesday or so about the outstanding offers, possible targets, and remaining needs.
by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Mar 1, 2010 1:54 AM CST up reply actions
The strange thing is to be only pursuing such a small number of backs
With only Whaley for 2009, then only Shead for 2010, and now just a FB and possibly Brown, it would seem that the pool might become a bit thin in the very near future.

Do you think we'll leave room for any late surprises?
Davis, White, Jeffcoat and Hicks were good for us this year.

There will ALWAYS be room for a late
5-star type player. Lots of ways for the coaches to free up a scholarship.
The key, I think, is staying aggressive, being persistent. I think our mentality in the past has been, “We got ours. We’ll take more, but we’re not going to sweat it out.” This time around (from Cobbs’ commitment in the mid-fall to the Jeffcoat-Hicks double-up the Friday before signing date), we were persistent to the end.
