Men's Basketball: Polls and Tournament Questions
1) Given the latest rankings and the latest loss -- as well as the team's performance over the past ten games -- what is the likelihood that Texas will be unranked in the next poll?
2) In the event the team losses the next two games -- a real possibility, even more so with the current uncertainty at PG -- is Texas in a must win situation for at least the first game of the Big 12 tournament to get an invitation to the NCAA tournament?
3) Finally, has any team ever been ranked No. 1 and subsequently been unranked and/or uninvited to the NCAA tournament?
While Texas has a resume worthy of an NCAA tournament invitation, the recent trajectory and (perhaps) concerns regarding player unavailability due to injury are obvious sources of concern.

well...
1. I’d be shocked if Texas was still ranked, and I believe this would be the 4th time its happened in the ncaa division I.
2. Texas circles the wagons and WILL beat OU at home, but to address your question….even if Texas loses its next 2, they could lose in the opening round of the big 12 tourney and still make it. 8-8 in the #1 RPI conference gets you in this year. I’d say a 10 seed under that scenario.
3. Not sure about this one.
My guess of what happens is split this week, and I think they make a run in the big 12 tourney based upon matchups. I’m thinking we open against 11 Iowa St, then face #3 Baylor, finally beat Baylor and then go up against 2 K State in semi’s….then, well let’s hope we get this far.
I’d say we end up as a 6 or 7 seed in march madness tourney….maybe 5 seed if we make a deep run in big 12 tourney.
thanks
Thanks for the reply.
1) I agree.
2) If Brown does not play, OU will be a difficult game. . . . If Texas loses the last two Big 12 conference games and first round Big 12 tournament game, I would be surprised — but not shocked — if we were uninvited to the NCAA tournament.
3) I too have been unable to find the answer.
The tournament selection committee considers trajectory, and currently ours is terrible. Again, while I think are resume and (at worst) 8-8 record in conference should be sufficient, I do not think we are a lock if we lose the next three.
Sad
How bad the season has turned on the Horns. So many injuries, the lack of development of the new players, and the complete disappearance Dexy. Rick has the talent pipeline stocked – but if he cannot bring it together, it may be difficult to capitalize on the talent.
