fine with me

Texas has the lone 5 star players for the Big 12. The SEC is dominating right now, and USC is USC. It proves that Pete Carrol had little to do with what went on at USC. The school sells itself. I feel sorry for Seattle (not really).

Florida will lose a few games next year. I think they will have to change their offense from a run dominate Tebow attack to passing it much more with Brantley. He only has two more years, then they will start over developing a QB. A typical SEC team: good defense, good running game, and an average passing game (and hope the opponent’s QB gets hurt or has a bad game in the MNC).

combination of both for USC

good program, good coach, and they replaced him with another good recruiting coach.

SEC

I know they won the last 4 MNC, but its questionable if they should’ve even played in 3 of them. The SEC isn’t that good, and I think we all saw that in the MNC game this year.

Texas

I know they won four championships, but its questionable whether they should’ve even been considered for 3 of them (I mean, there was no BCS back then…). Texas isn’t that good, and I think we all saw that in the MNC game this year (not).

Yo SEC!

I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you finish but…

Texas is the greatest football program of all time!

What?

If you go undefeated, then its hard to question whether they should be there or not (if they play decent teams to be undefeated). I’m not sure if your being sarcastic.

if you are serious...

then Alabama is the best team out of the SEC in their 4 year run, and Texas had them on the ropes with 3 minutes left (with thier backup freshman QB in the game).

I think it’s pretty obvious I’m being facetious; it’s in response to the assumption that you’re being completely serious.

First of all, the statement that “the SEC isn’t that good” is absurd. Your arguments for why completely contradict that.

The fact that “they won [the last] four championships” should be reason enough to note that the SEC is currently the best conference in the nation. This is seconded by the fact the SEC recently cleaned up in recruiting, as top recruits want to play for the best teams in the nation. Further adding to that point is that the most powerful sports broadcasting entity shelled out a record sum in order to obtain the rights to broadcast the most powerful college sports entity. Why? Because they’re good.

The statement that “its questionable whether they should’ve even been considered for 3 of them” as rationale for why the SEC is not good is ridiculous. The system is what it is. The SEC knows how the system works and exploits it to its advantage. Heck, "its questionable whether Texas should have been considered for the BCS spot. Was their resume clearly better than Boise or TCU, two fellow undefeateds? No. They got there on brand recognition, just like the SEC did. Why? Because they’ve earned it; Texas based on years of tradition, the SEC based on the fact that they won the last three championships. By the way…Florida, LSU, and Florida? All #2 in the final BCS standings. Yup, they were the “de facto” underdogs going into the game.

What did we see in the championship game this year? An Alabama victory? Yes, as Texas fans we all lament “what might have been” had Colt not gotten injured, but the outcome is what it is, and it was an Alabama win. If by “we had them on the ropes,” you mean we still had to march 90 yards down the field with our true freshman backup quarterback to win, then yes, I see what you are saying. Good Great teams find ways to win; isn’t that what we said when we squeaked by OU and Nebraska? Don’t discount Alabama as a damn good team just because we lost our star. It sucks. Get over it.

By the way, 2005 USC had 2005 Texas on the ropes with about 2 minutes left. Inches away from converting a 4th and 2. I think based on that we can conclude that 2005 Texas wasn’t all that good.

Well

Texas only needed a FG in the MNC to catch up so technically they didn’t have to go 90 yards, but I do understand your arguments regardless

USC in 2005

was suppose to be the greatest team ever. The SEC is good, but they aren’t is good as the media makes them to be. The SEC is beatable. The LSU team that won the MNC a few years ago had 2 losses. I don’t think anybody can say LSU was the best team with a straight face. The main thing I got out of the SEC winning 4 years in a row is how bad college football needs a playoff.

You said its questionable whether or not Texas should’ve been considered for 3 of their championships. How is that different from 3 out of 4 of the SEC’s championships?

More from Staples...

That’s what you like to hear.

3:35 p.m. — Drama-free day for Texas

You haven’t read a single word about Texas here on the blog today. That’s because it’s been a rather uneventful National Signing Day in Austin, which is exactly how Longhorns coach Mack Brown likes it.

Brown puts his hay in the barn so early every year that the first Wednesday in February really is a mere formality. That was the case today. Texas entered Wednesday with 25 committed players. By noon local time, all 25 had signed. That’s right. All 25. No drama. No sweating.

Brown only takes commitments from players who want desperately to play for Texas. If a player wavers, Brown knows there are dozens of blue-chippers who would gladly take their wishy-washy counterpart’s scholarship.

The Longhorns are excited about the receivers in this class. They’ve got Darius White from Fort Worth, Texas, John Harris from Garland, Texas, Darius Terrell from DeSoto, Texas and DeMarco Cobbs from Tulsa, Okla. The latest of the group to commit was White, who announced for Texas on Jan. 2. Harris and Terrell, meanwhile, have been committed since this week last year.

Brown and his staff waited until late January for Plano, Texas, defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, but Jeffcoat is the nation’s top-ranked end. In fact, you have to be that good to make Brown wait that long.

So don’t expect to read much more about Texas this week. An utterly drama-free Signing Day gets little ink. That’s fine with Brown. He’s more worried right now about how many Class of 2011 commits he’s going to get at the Longhorns’ junior day later this month.

Interesting

Love the drama free aspect but surprised he brought up the waiting for Jeffcoat but not the wait for Hicks and being able to grab an out-of-stater (way north, not forgetting about Cobbs).

Also he forget possibly the best WR in Mike Davis from his list….

Still, love that they were all in by noon! Gotta love this class

Hook’em!

Honestly,

I prefer not hearing that we got Jeffcoat until recently. Sure, I was definitely wondering and hoping we’d get him for the past year (?) or so, but if I had heard that he was a go on Texas, I still would have been paranoid of some kind of fall out, considering everything that went on elsewhere. Then again, that kind of crap doesn’t happen at Texas, right?

The past week in hearing about both Hicks & Jeffcoat, followed by a quick locking-in of all 25 was about as good as it gets.

You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?
