Calling out of Thayer Evans!

One of the great things that this country and its citizens possess is its freedom of speech and press.  With that being said it is the responsibility of these members of the press to at least try and have some sort restraint when it comes to their own agenda, likes, dislikes and beliefs.  Just report the facts of the situation.  Now it is very clear that one member of the sports press doesn't get that.  Thayer Evans!  Now we all know this and I am not telling you anything that you don't know.  What we haven't done is ask him to be accountable for his articles and face the scrutiny that comes with a man of his position.  Now I know that some radio stations did and he slunk off like a snake (to my knowledge).  I am now calling you out Thayer!  Where is your blog reports on the Jarret Lake situation.  How "rumors" are tied to that?  Where is your blog reports on how Bob couldn't land Jefferson Jeffcoat, Darius White, Mike Davis or better yet DeMarco Cobbs?  Where is your scrutiny of the your Sooners?  Where?  Well since you do not have the guts to face the radio stations, maybe you will have the guts to face a small group of fans from the BON and answer their questions.  Explain your reasons behind those articles.  Explain how you justify some of those things you said.  Show proof to some of the things you said in those articles.  All you have shown is that you are the Rush Limbaugh of the Sooner Nation.  Your willing to say things now lets see if your willing to face the fire.  Will you show the world that you have the nerve to face your critics or will you show the world what you really are?  A COWARD!

Who the hell cares about what Thayer Evans thinks

He’s just a guy with a blog. Granted, the blog is on the NY Times, but since when did anybody look there for their sports news. Let’s not throw a hissy fit every time somebody on the internetz doesn’t like us, it will save us a lot of time and dignity.

If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

Yeah
Let’s not throw a hissy fit every time somebody on the internetz doesn’t like us, it will save us a lot of time and dignity.

This is definitely a losing battle.

The most we can do is use him for ammunition, occationally.

Yeah, even aside from PB's (brilliant) edict that's a terrible idea

I’m pretty confident this blog is split way too many ways politically to maintain any semblance of decorum once that door is opened.

These paranoid FanPosts are hilarious.

You guys are in full meltdown mode! It’s sad… which is what makes it so funny.

Chillax, bro. Your team played for the National Championship and you just hauled in a ridiculous recruiting class. You and Wrangler86 need to get together for a hot cup of cocoa and a foot rub.

Ill take the Keith Olberman of the Democratic Party

Paranoid? Whats there to be paranoid about. Texas hasnt beaten OU 4 out of the last 5 times. Texas has won 10+ games for 9 staight yrs. We have a guaranteed top 5 recruiting class in the country every year with a 1/3 of the frequent flyer miles. We have a great coach and the hottest asst coach in the country. We have more $ than any other shcool in the country. Did I mention we have beat OU 4 out of the last 5 yrs? What do I have to be “paranoid” about? Im calling out another Sooner Coward! Period!

by LEMILES on Feb 6, 2010 11:44 AM CST reply actions

That's my point...

You don’t have anything to be paranoid about, but that doesn’t stop you. You are irrational and it’s thoroughly entertaining. So, keep dreaming up conspiracy theories though, tough guy.

P.S. I’ll have to take your word that Muschamp is the “hottest” assistant coach. I’ll concede that the UT cheerleaders probably have the hottest uniforms, though.

by BrooklynSooner on Feb 6, 2010 12:30 PM CST up reply actions

Who would be hotter?

If Coach Boom hasn’t been outright offered every major coaching gig that came open this season he has been apart of the rumor mill.

While I don't think they were cheerleaders

there is a song girl group or something at Bama. I saw them in the stands when they played Florida. Scorching hot sequined uniforms, still in good taste. I might have to concede that honor to them.

Im glad "it's thoroughly entertaining"

Since you think that it’s a conspiracy theory I have come up with, let me ask you this. When OU gets popped again for something are you going to come up here and tell me I was right , or are you going to be a coward just like Thayer and run off with your balls tucked between your legs? If the man was truely a reporter and not a hack with a computer (like all of us) he would comment about OU and what happened with this kid. Heck even Musburger say something about Bob when he makes a mistake (sometimes).

Nah… I’ll keep my balls between my legs probably.

i dont really understand the point of this fan post? are we really still all that mad at thayer evans? give it up.

by Displaced Longhorn on Feb 6, 2010 12:09 PM CST reply actions

My guess

Is because he wrote another waste of space blog about Henderson and Texas out of the blue. Just a guess though

by Jhal2315 on Feb 6, 2010 12:14 PM CST up reply actions

lol, i did just see that. i still don’t think he’s worth getting all worked up over.

by Displaced Longhorn on Feb 6, 2010 12:38 PM CST up reply actions

Well

Definitely not over that little blurb, no.

by Jhal2315 on Feb 6, 2010 4:11 PM CST up reply actions

All he said was that Texas wasn't interested in Henderson

He probably couldn’t survive here academically anyway. Maybe the staff didn’t like him or his dad’s style. Or maybe we just couldn’t compete with Snoop Dog on the recruiting trail. I mean who are we going to send, Willie Nelson?

Personally...

I trust the coaching staff at Texas far more than some journalist hack with an apparent axe to grind. I think the coaches believe that Henderson the player, and Henderson the father will be more headache than anything. Moreover, there are not too many 6’8" linemen in the country playing college football. Dude is a tad too tall to handle the nimbleness of a DE as they progress through their college years. Myself, I was an amazing baseball player right up until the age of 18. Then it just stopped. I believe this will be the case for Seantrel. Additionally, perhaps grades were a problem for him and they chose not to risk a scholly. Like I said, I trust our coaching staff.

sometimes...

there just isn’t any good sports news that hasn’t already been reported, so journalists and bloggers alike are forced to pull something out of their ass to bring home a pay check that week. While I agree Thayer is a disgrace to unbiased journalism, since when has the NYT ever been a shining beacon of integrity? Looks like he found his place and I don’t blame him for these pointless articles because ESPN does this crap all the time as well, just not against Texas so much.

by Lothor on Feb 6, 2010 1:28 PM CST reply actions

LEMILES--I support you!!!

As the Glenn Beck of BON I almost wrote a similar rant I mean post. But, my take is a little diffrent.

I dont’ give a rat’s ass about T.E.‘s opinion because he is clearly an idiot. I don’t even care if he doesn’t expose or discuss OU’s dirty shanigans and is completely biased toward them. But I do care the that The NYTimes allows him the space and forum to blog his stories which are sometimes pure fiction. The NYTimes has tarnished its own reputation. If they didn’t fire him after the McFarland story was exposed as fiction, then nothing else is going to get him the boot.

He is clearly known as a biased blogger and not a journalist. Notice this year that he didn’t have any access to behind the scenes recruiting of anyone at Texas. He will never be a journalist.

If you think about it, maybe we should actually send TE a thank you note because the Christmas gift he gave us last year seems to have resulted in recruits preferring Texas’ recruiting style over OU recruiting lies. We virtually shut them out of Texas this year, and we even got McFarland’s teammate Carrington Byndom out of Lufkin. Coincidence?

I refuse to go to TE’s links and stories because I don’t want to be counted in his traffic numbers which is all the NYTimes really cares about—traffic to the site for advertising $$. Ignoring a blogger/reporter or complaining to the manager is the best way to get rid of them from a national media outlet.

The University of Texas’ media and press department should also use its strength to ban press/media privileges to media sources that publish knowingly false stories about our operations, including recruiting. I bet TE and the NYT didn’t get much access to the NC game from Texas.

Rock on LEMILES, I got your back.

by Wrangler86 on Feb 6, 2010 1:56 PM CST reply actions

The article actually makes Texas look like the storied program that is. Mack Brown does not have to chase down, beg for, etc. every top recruit. He can afford to be very, very picky. And top recruits notice when Texas doesn’t go after them. Do you think they notice when A&M doesn’t come knocking? Or even OU? That speaks volumes about this program.

by LEMILES on Feb 6, 2010 7:20 PM CST up reply actions

Maybe no story

This year because the top players this year were classy a la Jeffocat and Hicks. They wouldn’t mess with the likes of an Evans type, so he ran the Henderson ‘not really story’ story.

Pretty tame for him, probably not much to look into

by Jhal2315 on Feb 6, 2010 4:10 PM CST reply actions

Do any of you know LEMILES personally?

What if I told you he is personal friends with numerous former OU football players and even coached one of them in high school? He has been the personal guest of a former OU football player that plays in the NFL. He even turned down a visit invite to OU in the late 90’s. When he says he knows things and truly believes something he has facts or has information that back up his opinions. Now he may not be as current as he used to be but he sure did know what was going on a few years ago and if he truly wanted to know all he would have to do is ask. So Sooner I wouldn’t attack LEMILES to much he has forgotten more dirt about OU than you know.

by DFWHorn on Feb 6, 2010 7:42 PM CST reply actions

Seriously?

Even if this is not you, LEMILES, why would one of your friends be stupid enough to make their first post be this ridiculousness? No one is going to believe this is real.

Hey guys!

If you dont like my post thats fine. Lay off my little brother. He is just sticking up for me. He is barely in hs. Also dont be the first duesche bag to come out and say well he shouldnt step i n the conversation then. I dont have to have someone stand-up for me. I can stand the heat.

Two interesting cases of contrasting BON mentality.
