Can Barnes coach offense?
I only ended up watching most of the second half today of the Texas-OU game. What truly amazes me is how there is little to no offensive sets for the Longhorns.
Check this out. From about the 18 minute point to the 1 minute point, there was no more than one pass made on each offensive possession, with the exception of a 2nd pass into Pittman, which he fumbled away. Really. Go look.
It was like a playground, whoever touched the ball, took it upon themselves to go 1 on 5 and shoot it...every time!
I grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, and Dean Smith had a rule. If you shot the ball after only one pass, and it didn't go in or wasn't a layup, you immediately came out of the game. I'm amazed Barnes has so little control or discipline over this team that each and every player believes it their 'turn' or 'right' to shoot the ball every time they handle it.
Today, Hamilton was the absolute worst. Does it even matter to him if he has teamates? It appears he'll shoot it any way he can-- double pump, hook, whatever-- as long as he gets his shot attempts in. Towards the end of the game, OU figured out there would be zero passing and started double and triple teaming the 'guy with the ball.'
Not to mention, James shot a key possession late in the game, left-handed, from behind the backboard, and it of course missed everything.
Sorry, this is Barne's fault. No one else's. Even a decent High School coach understands the basics of offensive sets and teamwork.
Just sayin'.

Looks like Barnes is really starting to get exposed
in the post-game interview with Craig Way, he pretty much stated there’s no chemistry at all between the players. They’re not playing together. The coaches have lost the players on offense. Maybe Barnes should’ve focused on offense to start the season instead of being worried about the defense all day.
With all that said, a few made free throws, made open jumpers, and made layups, and no one is having this conversation.

We beat Kansas this week and everyone will claim Barnes to be a hero
Weird how it happens like that.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
If we beat Kansas
it will be NC talk on here, what happens if Texas lays an egg against Nebraska, it will be this crap all over again. Gotta love sports fans.
The next up and coming Longhorns QB!

Re: If we beat Kansas
If we beat Kansas it’s because our raw talent had a good night, not because the coaching miraculously got better. This has been the issue with UT under Barnes all along. He lets the amazingly talented players do their thing on offense, and he tries to coach them up defensively.
What is different the last two years is that we haven’t had that amazing scorer that can do it on his on, so that exposes our lack of any offensive system.
This is not reactionary commentary by me, you can check my old posts and see that I have written about this issue several times over the years.
Pittman should get at least one touch down low every possession, and the free throw percentage needs to come up, or Barnes should take a pay cut. Those are two things that fall directly on the coach, and it’s not a one off problem, or something we are pointing to after several bad losses, it is a systematic problem at this point
no
If Texas beats Kansas, it will be b/c Texas made free throw shots and 3 pointers by accident.
I don't know
but I’ll keep him over Tom Penders. I didn’t think losing Varez Ward would be a big deal. I was wrong.

but....
…you know Texas basketball has now come to a place (thanks to Barnes) that we can do better than Tom Penders. Just saying.
yet...
I can’t help thinking that Tom Terrific would have gotten more out of this year’s team than Barnes has.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
He wouldn't have been able to recruit these guys
UH fans are pissed at Penders. He can’t even recruit the city of Houston.
