2010 Texas Junior Day Attendees
These names are subject to change and some players may end up attending a different Junior Day. In general, the great majority of the the first Junior Day attendees will receive offers, although some players invited to the first Junior Day may attend the second due to scheduling reasons. Some players, like New Mexico offensive linemen Matt Hegarty, cannot attend due to scheduling reasons. Players who have been approved for an offer but do not attend a Junior Day will almost certainly have to find another way to get to campus to receive their offer.

I am sure he will be at one of them!
"The best decision I ever made was coming to Texas," James said. "The second-best decision was coming back."
Not sure what the deal is with that
as he seems like a no-brainer for an offer. We shall see, perhaps his name will come out as an attendee later in the week.

In Looking at the CBs
it looks a little thin to me.What do you think?
How many do you think we can take next year.
With the great D line pick ups the past two years, do you think we will take very many there.
Will we offer all the RBs after only taking one in each ofthe last two classes?
If we get another top 5 class next year just think of the potential we should have for the next few years.
Saw that as well...
I hope we could land Shannon and Evans. Maybe one of them can play CB. I understand Evans has some wheels and Shannon is a big time hitter.
Can you believe we’re starting this again? My feet still haven’t touched ground from the last class.
Don't think it's too thin.
There are guys like Scott, Griffin, and Agbaroji out there and a guy like Nick Shepard, as well as a hundful of tathlete who project as safeties like Thompson and Brown, with some ability to play offense if necessary.

5 OL
That’s better. I think we need at least four signees. We need another “Class of Beef.” We also need a new OLine coach, but that’s a different discussion, which would be banned on Hornfans.
How will offers be given?
Will Malcom Brown be offered on Feb 13th? If so, and he commits, then do you think it would have any effect on Herschel Sims or Brandon Williams? I would hope the issue never comes up as reported by Mack this year. The guys didn’t care who else was coming in. They just wanted to be a Longhorn and compete.
I’m also surprised to see Daniel Lasco from the Woodlands coming. I didn’t think he was really lining up with Mack’s philosophy very well. The kid can play though. I saw him against Katy this year and he is definitely a D-1 elite prospect. Seems like a smart kid as well. Texas highschool football is absolutely loaded with RB’s this year.
I think we are looking for 2 RBs..so yes.

No idea how a commitment
from one running back will affect the others, but I’ll try to sort through that with the running back big board I’m working on.

No question prospects are impacted by others' commitments
When Garrett Gilbert committed two years ago — the Thursday after the 2009 class was signed — it basically told QB Russell Shepard of Cy Ridge (Houston) that Shepard was No. 2 among UT’s “wants” at the position that year. Shepard signed with LSU.
Given the critical nature of the OL, I’d guess three of the four linemen listed above would accept offers within the week.
Good Point, but other than QB
most positions rotate and will share snaps. I understand we did offer Shepard, but were up front wiht him about Garrett being the QB and we would look at Russell as an athlete. LSU got him with the promise of a shot at QB, but ended up playing him as receiver, or jet, Q, wildcat, or wild horn type.
We are getting really deep at RB if 2 of these guys sign. I wouldn’t think we would take 3 unless they were the elite three, but again, would they all three commit. I honestly was about to give up on Darius White this year when Mike Davis committed, but check it out. We have the best D-class and the best receiving corps in the nation this year.
How would it be to have eight quality guys to rotate in the OL?
We’re getting there slowly. Walters, Porter, Espinosa and Hopkins the last two years. If we can get four good ones this year MacWhorter’s job will be a whole lot easier.
Anybody know if Walters qualifies for a medical redshirt?

I want ever one of those guys with “offensive tackle” beside their name. EVERY. ONE.
Get the guard too, while we’re at it.
I'm not terribly familiar with a couple of those tackles
But Flowers at guard looks like one of the best linemen I’ve seen in some time, at least in video clips. I really hope he’s an on-the-spot commitment, because he looks terrific. Good physique for a junior, too.
I guess I should mention that I’m not particularly confident in my ability to grade offensive linemen, but I’d be awfully surprised if anyone disagreed that he’s an elite guard, and a definite take.

Flowers will probably take some time
and would be a big get.
by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Feb 8, 2010 9:06 PM CST up reply actions
my bet is that Flowers commits. Everything I have heard is that he is the best guard to come out of this state in a long while. Will be interesting to see who else commits. A&M has offered a few of those guys. Great list of players coming in. I really want the Sims cousings from Abilene. Our coaches have not offered them yet. If A&M got the Sims and Anthony Wallace (am hearing he is leaning y’alls way) I would consider it a good class with just those three. If I were y’all, I would take three RBs. None on campus have shown they are the answer, so bring in a bunch and let competition sort them out.
I am not GoBR
But, Malcolm Brown, Cibolo Steele running back is a pure stud! Some compare him to Adrian Peterson, but he is not AP, but he is a pure stud!
Also, Leroy Scott, South Houston cornerback may not be as big of a prize, but there is some thoughts that he is going to be the biggest recruiter out of this class.
I am really looking forward to this class!
"The best decision I ever made was coming to Texas," James said. "The second-best decision was coming back."
To me,
Brown is a much more talented version of Vondrell McGee.

I'd go with Westerman as biggest prize
Arguably the best offensive tackle in the country.
I doubt he commits this early though because he’s from Arizona. I imagine he’d at least give USC’s new staff a shot.
Yep, that's what we need
A left tackle, Sedrick Flowers being be a close second with priority being quality and athleticism in the OL.

Some want athleticism
Some want “maulers.”
Seems about right, since the OL troubles seem to have been partly due to a somewhat discordant combination of athletic guys and mauler guys. At least, that’s how it appears to me.

If we're gonna keep on zone blocking we need athletes in the line.
I hope I’m wrong but I have a bad feeling that Sims is headed up north, of Texas that is.
Of the in state guys Flowers and Wallace. Flowers is a smart kid interested in an engineering program.

...even if we switch to drive blocking
need guys who can move and get out into space.

More about positions
Need to land one or two of the top running backs and several of the top offensive tackles.
by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Feb 8, 2010 9:08 PM CST up reply actions
Yes,
His younger brother I believe, have to think that LSU will not be in this one because of the waythey have treated russel
"The best decision I ever made was coming to Texas," James said. "The second-best decision was coming back."
malcolm brown
Some rumors that malcolm brown might commit early because he sees that he could start immediately in 2011 where as at ou he would be behind finch, clay, and calhoun.
Depends, though, because UT has backs too
Whaley and Shead could be off-putting as well.

Lovin' It
Brown and Sims and I’m happy. They would make a great pair along the lines of Ingram/Richardson
etc
i heard sims released a top 3 of tcu, oklahoma state and ou. westerman also i read on a usc site that he doesnt like the way kiffin left tennessee and his parents think he’s a scumbag also.
Why not?
Plenty of guys have put UT on their short lists without an offer in hand yet. I do hope UT appears on Sims’ list soon, though.
by burntorangehorn on Feb 8, 2010 5:29 PM CST up reply actions
who knows who the staff even wants at this point
Sims might not even be a priority. Texas could end up with Brown and Williams and that would be fine with me.
isiah crowell
stud rb from georgia has offers from just about everybody. same school as jarvis jones. says that ut has verbally only verbally offered him. i dont know if thats true but the kid is prob on aaron greens level
I'd put real long odds on that
I can recall only one time in the last 5, 6 years when a returning starter who was a senior was demoted in favor of a younger player (excluding injury situations).
I hope Ashcraft is good enough to start the year after. Same with Porter. Same with Walters. Same with, I’m sure there’s somebody else — Hopkins, maybe.
Beasley was never a full-time starter
(that I recall; he did start some games) . . . Frank Okam moving in front of Larry Dibbles in 2005 is the only one I remember.
GoBR
Who are the guys who you think will commit during the weekend(s) of Junior Day(s)?
"I want to be remembered as the guy who gave his all whenever he was on the field."
-Walter Payton
josh cochran
gobr do you think he is a take or too much of a project
Haven't seen film on him
but since he’s coming to the first Junior Day, there’s a strong chance the coaches like him and will give him an offer.
by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Feb 8, 2010 9:10 PM CST up reply actions
Do not sleep on Brandon Williams
Kid is a stud . Sub 4.4 in his 40 and runs angry . Great size at 6’1’’ and about 190. Unforunately, his junior film has gotten a lot of attention. Still I think Texas can get an early committ from him ( I think he lists Texas and Baylor) which would be great insurance going into the Malcolm Brown/ Herschel Sims war. Sorry guys Aaron Green is going to the land of Suh. Give me Williams early and Brown or Sims late and I’ll be a content Texas alum.
