Longhorns To Debut New Uniforms Tonight

A spokeswoman for Nike emails with the following:

Tonight the Longhorns will debut new uniforms that are dramatically lighter and that are designed to pay tribute to the basketball program and heritage of the University of Texas, including unique call-outs to the Longhorn logo, campus landmarks and the school motto.

Texas is one of several teams in college hoops utilizing these Nike HyperElite uniforms, which are 70 percent lighter than a traditional elite level basketball uniform, and celebrate the rich spirit, tradition and culture of the nation’s top basketball programs.

Images of the new uniforms are after the jump.

Anyone remember the silver ones?

THOSE WERE AWESOME!

We wore those against Florida (?1989) and Benford Williams christened them with one of the loudest jams I’ve ever heard!

cool

the backs are awesome. So will they wear home and road ones of this uniform for the rest of the year?

It looks kind of neat

But there is WAY too much going on. Tower, State of Texas, Horns, Number, 1883, Basketball at Bottom, and other random graphics. ALL ON THE BACK! I loved our away uni’s, so I hope this is more of a one time thing.

wtf

I just noticed that. It looks like he broke his elbow and was treated at St. Bevo’s Hospital for Kids who Can’t Shoot Free Throws Good.

Just got my Tickets

I am pumped!

Well

We have changed uni’s since then.

Back when DJ Augustin was running the show we switched that season.

I was actually hoping for something retro like this

The only improvement I would suggest would be fiber optic lighting for the tower. That would be trick.

When do we hire Shaquille O'Neal...

to come in and help our boys raise the team’s free throw percentage?

I think it looks great. Maybe they'll be "reborn" tonight

I'm a Fan

I especially like not having names on the back (or is that just for they prototype?) and the ‘Texas’ font on the front. It looks similar to the font KU used to use, but regardless, I’m liking the look.

Does it come with a t-shirt?

It looks like some sort of padding on the hips.

Wait...

Is there a white version of those we’re gonna wear tonight, because isnt it a rule that we have to wear white at home?

by acho81 on Feb 8, 2010 7:18 PM CST reply actions

Nope

A lot of teams (think Illinois) often wear non-white at home. I think there has to be some coordination with the road team to make sure there’s no conflict if the two teams’ jerseys are too close in color.

Awful

We’re Texas. We don’t do that Nike shit.

My thoughts exactly

Why do we fight being trendy in football, but we’re perfectly okay with whoring ourselves out as Nike’s guinea pig in hoops?

by bassale47 on Feb 8, 2010 8:11 PM CST up reply actions

I agree...Kinda

IMO, I hope we nevernevereverever change the football unis, even if it’s a one-game ‘special’ outfit. I love the ones we have, and never want to see something different.

However, basketball is different. For one, UT doesn’t have the same long-standing winning tradition the football team does. Second-and most important-basketball teams change uniforms every two/three years anyway. Even long-standing powerhouses like Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, and Duke change them up ever so often. For whatever reason (marketing?) basketball teams are constantly coming out with minor tweaks and changes to their look, and I personally have no problem with this new design. It sure beats Nike’s System Of Dress they were wearing the last three years.
