The best player for Kansas tonight was Jordan Hamilton
Seriously, is there even a reason to play this kid anymore? While he's clearly got a certain amount of talent, he's far less talented than we believed when we recruited him. In addition, it's becoming more and more obvious that he's uncoachable. Despite Rick Barnes's pleas -- and in-game chewings out -- Hamilton continues to focus on himself at the expense of the team. I'm sure the subtleties of intelligent shot selection have been explained to him umpteen times, yet he continues to jack up horrible shot after horrible shot without remorse and without, apparently, any regard whatsoever for his teammates. And I won't even get into the way he plays defense.
The Jordan Hamilton experiment was worth trying, but it's been a colossal failure, and now is time to cut bait. This team has enough issues to overcome without having to deal with a spoiled freshman who thinks he's god's gift to basketball. Park his sorry ass at the end of the bench, give him maybe one or two garbage time minutes here and there, and after the season let him transfer to Houston or some other school where uncoachable freelancers go to thrive.

You don't know him (Do you?)
Neither do I, but it seems pretty myopic and harsh to write an 18 (or 19) year old kid off at this early point in his career. Particularly when you have no idea what else is going on in a person’s life. To a fan he’s just a basketball player, but in reality he’s also a young man who is far away from home, probably for the first time in his life, just started college, has to meet new people and at the same time try to avoid all the trouble that I’m sure we all know exist around campus. In addition, he came to UT with dreams and expectations of himself that I’m sure add significant self-imposed pressure to perform.
Rick Barnes, the rest of the coaching staff, and the other players certainly have a better grasp of who Jordan Hamilton is, and I trust that if he were such a lost cause and not worth working with then I would expect to see him start getting fewer minutes. Until then I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and continue to pull for him to improve to be the player we all hoped he’d be….or better.
That's a good point, of course
I have nothing against the kid personally. For all I know he’s the greatest kid in the world. I can only go by what I see on the court.

Amen, bruthah!
Geez, give the kid a break, “Juden”. You know nothing about him. For all we know, Barnes is telling Jordan (& J’Covan) to shoot the rock every chance they get.

Well, all due respect, but we pretty much know that’s not happening. Have you not been watching the games where Jordan gets benched and/or chewed out for his dumb shots? Anyway, whatever Rick is telling him obviously isn’t working.

Hamilton was the reason why the Horns came back against OSU the other day
Shooters are streaky – when they’re hot, they’re smokin’, and when they’re cold, they need to be on the bench. No argument there. But take him for what he is – a shooter AND a freshman. NONE of us know what Barnes is saying when he’s chewin’ out the kid but neither one of us reads lips either. He’s been chewin’ out Damion James for 3 years too and look at him now. For years, Barnes has repeatedly said to the press, in effect, that it burns his arse when the kids don’t take shots. About 10 games ago, everyone thought J’Covan was more worthless to the team than they think Hamilton is now. But he’s a key cog now. All I’m sayin’ – and I understand the criticism – it’s pointless to critize this kid so harshly. Barnes knows what he’s doing. He’s got tremendous upside.
In his really incredible scoring spurt a couple of games ago
I pointed out that his shots were off balance and many just thrown up. But they were going in so everyone was happy. I was thinking they were sloppy and we were lucky. The shots the last few games were exactly the same but they were not falling so now we see the same exact Jordan Hamilton. The only difference is the stat sheet. I agree he should be benched.
I noticed that too at the time
Even in his big 27 -point game, he was really taking awful shots.

Nobody's calling the kid a scumbag
But as far as basketball goes, they’re collegiate players and that eliminates all excemption from criticism. Jordan Hamilton is a bum. He’s not capable of being a team player at this time so its time to see the bench. Avery Bradley needs to increase his awareness on both sides of the ball. Dogus Balbay needs not to play if he is 0% threat on the offensive side of the ball. That makes things a taaaad bit difficult for the other 4 players if they have to score on 5 defenders. Dexter Pittman is soft. Thats the nicest way that I am capable of putting it. If I was a fan of another team, I’d be glad to see us going against Dexter Pittman because, as I mentioned before, Dexter Pittman is SOFT. A SMART J’Covan Brown on this team is exactly what we need to go along our only other player who is bringing it, Damion James. Brown and James are fearless and agressive….and they’re pretty freaking good too. Gary Johnson and Justin Mason are good for this team when they’re playing their roles and being aggressive towards the basket….not taking jumpers. Oh, did I mention that Dexter Pittman is SOFT?
Throw Ya Horns, Mayne
Original: dumping on one player when the whole team is playing poorly.
Nice post. But come on, throwing only one player under the bus when this is a team problem? Not cool.
When should I be expecting your “Dear Four Big Men, Adios” post?Pittman has three games this year in which he has grabbed one board. Sounds like a headcase to me. He needs to just ride the rest of the season out on the pine.
Chapman, Hill, Wingman — yeah, they’ve been nonexistent, too. Pine! Now!
Dogus. Can’t shoot a lick. He’s the oppo-Hamilton. Instead of taking bad shots, he just plain doesn’t take shots. Pine, then deportation.
Jai Lucas. Pine.
Varez Ward. He hasn’t been taking very good shots. His assist numbers are terrible. Pine, then transfer back to Alabama.

I don't get it either.
Hamilton took 3 shots in the first half. Is he to blame for the lack of decent point guard play? My goodness, he’s a frosh trying to find his place in an offense that is completely lost. It’s not his fault we don’t have a floor general to create good shots for him.
Perp or victim?
Is Hamilton the problem or just the symptom of a team that is struggling? I’m discouraged by the misses, but he is not known as a streak shooter. Seems to me that if he was being fed the ball more rather than having always to make his own shots, we would see him taking (and making) better shots. It also seems he works hard, even though the results on the defensive side have not been so good. I’d like to see him used for “instant offense” a la Brandy Perryman this year, before taking a starting spot next year.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
Play Hamilton early in games....
if he’s hot, stick with him. If not, pine! That would help solve the problem of his streaky-ness. I think the Horns problems all stem from Barnes offensive scheme. This year I feel like I’m watching a horrible NBA team, worse than the Nets, while in actuality it is our beloved Horns. High screen and roll or simple entry past to the post from the wing. The only problem is the talent level of this Horns team does not fit that style of play. While at the game Monday night all I ever noticed while KU was on offense was how much movement they had on that end of the floor. Every single player was always moving, with or without the ball. We need to emulate that, and then those ball screens and low post entry passes will be more free and clear.
