Longhorns Get No. 8 Seed
Texas opens NCAA tournament play on Thursday in New Orleans vs. No. 9 seed Wake Forest. Tip time has been set for 8:35 pm.
Winner gets No. 1 seed Kentucky on Saturday.
Texas is in the NCAA tournament for the 12th straight season. Texas is one of six teams that can make this claim.
Also, Rick Barnes has now taken his team to the NCAA tournament in each of the last 15 seasons (three for Clemson, 12 for Texas). Among coaches, this is the longest streak in the country.

What a smackdown punishment seed...
How Florida is even in this thing is beyond me. Horns deserved 7-9, so I am OK with this seeding. It is by far the worst place to be in the entire bracket. I would rather be a 10-12 than 8/9.

I'm seriously thinking Baylor has final four potential..
knowing they are in the Houston Regional….can’t believe that.
Agreed
And I would even say they could be Duke on the right day.

ESPN just showed a graphic
since 1994, they showed the lowest seed of teams that were once ranked #1. There were two other 8 seeds and one 10 seed. All three lost in the 1st round.

I've got 3 Big 12 teams in the Final 4
Not one of them is Texas. If someone would have told me that before the year, I would have laughed. Now, all I can do is sadly shake my head.

Dogs Playing Poker
Five name teams from name conferences that are junk art at heart and will be bounced early:
Wake Forest (21). The Demon Deacons have ended the season disastrously, losing five of their last six, and bottoming out with a 21-point loss in the ACC tourney to last-place Miami. Coach Dino Gaudio is 0-4 in postseason games as Wake head coach. In each of those four games, Gaudio’s team had the higher seed — and in each of those four games they lost by double digits.
Texas (23). Was this team really ranked No. 1? This year? Since then the Longhorns have been parked in Dysfunction Junction, losing nine of their last 16 games. Last time Texas won three in a row was Jan. 9-16.
Something has to give here.

Let's go Texas!!!

Baylor, final four? l.m.a.o.!
baylor will prolly lose in the 2nd round, possibly the third. yes yes yes i know they are a decent team and play in the big 12, but there is no way in hell they get to the elite 8.

hahahah man yall really love puttin mediocre teams on a pedestal on here huh?
as soon as we lost to UCONN, u could tell this team was not gonna make it to the sweet 16
just too young, too inconsistent and have a bunch of guys that cant gel together to save their lives.

I went through these 3 months ago. others still not past the 1st stage.
2 other things: Glad U of H finally got in the tourney. Good for Penders. Wonder what he would do with our talent????
Houston Yates vs. UT Basketball team – I predict UT wins 65% or so of the time.

Ha ha
Yates beating Texas? Ha….. Why does anyone listen to what you say again??

yates is one of the best 4A teams in the history of this state and
the highest offensively powered team in the history of high school basketball
UT would have trouble with Rice right now.. oh wait, they did this year. almost lost to em too.
Im just trying to say that anyone who thinks Texas is a OK basketball team.. hell, even a “Team” of any sense is dead wrong. I think that if Yates could somehow stop Pittman, they win 40-50% of the time.. believe that

Now go sit in the corner and think about what you just said
Do not speak unless spoken to. Children are to be seen and not heard. :)
Stumpy: It's called the '80s. Ford was president, Nixon was in the White House, and FDR was running this country into the ground.
You gotta be shittin me.
Cmon now, Houston Yates against UT..
Baylor and Sam Houston State. Hah…. that’s half my high school’s alma maters… the half that got into college, that is.
Texas got a gift inthe first round. Wake is playing worse than we are now. Really hope to see the Bradley/Wall matchup again, but I am sure Rick will put Mason on Wall. Ugh.
My Devils may have back to back road games in Houston… if they get by Cal/Louisville. Not cool.
If only we can flip this bitch around and start playing like we did the first half of the season we would have a chance
Shit we beat Pittsburgh, Mich St, Texas A&M the first time around. We put up a hondo on NC yeah I understand there not as good this year as they once were but we beat them. It’s like as soon as we lost to Kansas St we just suddenly took a shit. These guys need to get there shit together and play like the first half team that we were
As bad as Texas was down the stretch,
UCLA, Arizona, North Carolina, and UConn would gladly trade places with the Longhorns.
Lots of traditional powers missing from this field.
As bad as Texas was since 17-0, at least Rick Barnes put the ’Horns in the tournament again. 12th straight year and one of only six teams that can say that.
And for you “fire Rick Barnes” people, Barnes has now put his team in the NCAA tournament for 15 straight seasons. Longest streak in the country.
--AW--
Unfortunately, the problem
with that argument and Chip Brown’s “Mulligan for Rick Barnes” argument is the small matter of national championships ( or for that matter final four appearances):
UCLA: 11
North Carolina: 5
UCONN: 2
Arizona: 1
I would gladly trade our consecutive tournament appearances streak for one, just one, of those national championships. Hell, I trade the streak for one more final four appearance. I realize that this season is an anomaly in the totality of Rick’s tenure…so using the Olympic scoring method, throw out this season (low score) and throw out the lone final four appearance (high score) and you get a guy who averages out to be somewhere between a 2nd rounder and a sweet sixteener. And that’s truly great for most programs and five years ago I would’ve said it was great for ours. But at some point you hope to evolve into a program that starts to set their goals even higher, with the expectation of making final fours and contending for championships every now and then. And Rick just isn’t going to do that for us anyone who disagrees with that is just not being honest with themselves.
I hear you
The lack of Final Four appearances has been disappointing. And this season has been a disaster, there is no getting around that.
I fall somewhere in between the stats I just mentioned and the hopelessness you seem to feel about Rick’s ability to get us to the next level.
I think the expectations have been raised, that is why we are all so disgusted with this season. However, the final step is for the results to match our expectations—which this year they clearly did not.
--AW--
Nova and Baylor
that would be a fun matchup… Baylor’s bigs would be a big advantage
Injuries
Have we forgotten how many injuries our team has had? College basketball is all about good guard play. How many guards have we lost this year? Guys come on. Yes we were all excited at the beginning of the year. For good reason. We exceeded expectations in the tournament last year and we had a good recruiting class coming in (on paper). However we lost last years tournament MVP (V. Ward) and our best defender. I think we can make a run. We are capable, but as with any other team in this tourney we have to have good guard play…
Many people didn't really care about those injuries
Losing Ward was pretty much a “meh” response at the time. When Balbay went down, people suggested we were actually better without him. This was because we thought J’Covan Brown would finally get the playing time he deserved and would lead us to the promised land. Also, we’d see more PT for Hamilton.
What are they saying now? Brown is buried in Barnes’ dog house, and now Bradley has completely run out of gas because of these 3 players that are basically gone. On top of that, Mason is getting the bulk of the minutes now and Lucas has turned out to be nothing more than a scrub.

UK
At least we got a shot at the best early…if we can get past the Demon Deacons.
It is just sad that we were talking about a #1 seed in December, and now we are in the 8-9 game in UK’s Region.
Well, anything can happen in March, so go Hook ’em.
Play with a Chip
Back in the beginning of the season when the guys were playing with a Chip on there shoulder we were so much better. Were not gonna get all the FUNDAMENTAL lapses out of the way in a week.
So lets play pissed, aggressive and sloppy (which is a given no matter what style we play this year). Wake is NOT impressive … Aminu vs. James … DaMo should smoke him.
That said the Big 12 is a lot better than people thought. The later rounds of the tournament will be Big Ten vs. Big East vs. Big 12 … other conferences this year only have one competitor (ACC maybe Duke, SEC maybe Kentucky).
Hopefully Bradley and Hamilton’s familiarity with Wall and Cousins could help. Bradley’s D on Wall will be huge and Pittman not pussing out against Cousins too.
Nice, I actually get to watch it then

Ken Pom Predictions up
Texas 77 – Wake Forest 72.
Here’s Wake Forest’s KP Scouting Report

Stumpy: It's called the '80s. Ford was president, Nixon was in the White House, and FDR was running this country into the ground.
Great Match-Up
Hey we get to play a team that lost 5 of its last 6…
How did Wake pull a 9 seed?
I'll be disappointed if we only beat them by 5
assuming all of our guys play, this should be a double-digit win
