disagree
What job opportunities will he miss out on after football that will pay him $250K per year. Even adjusting for the fact that he will probably be in a lower tax bracket, I don’t see a scenario where finishing his degree after leaving football will cost him more in potential income than the $250K he’s missing out on now (unless he’s likely to land an asst coaching position somewhere that requires a degree and pays more).
That’s not to say that it isn’t important to finish the degree, or that it isn’t important to spend time with the family, but if the reason is purely “I want a job after football”, then I’m not sure that he’s making the right financial decision.
I suspect this is more about demonstrating the importance of a degree to his daughters
It’s not a bad investment from that standpoint

Plus
$250K probably isn’t too big of a hit financially to him either way.
