Reasons Wake Wins

1. Isi turns the corner against the slower footed Mason, draws fouls on the Texas bigs, and forces Lucas into action.
2. Aminu frustrates Dexter with his strength and quickness on defense and gets DaMo and/or Gary into foul trouble on offense.
3. Fast break points.
4. Texas is a mismatched jumble of parts that hasn’t remotely resembled a team in weeks. Damion will bring it—that’s for sure. Beyond that, we don’t know. Does Bradley play aggressively and take the ball to the rim? Does Hamilton play smart or revert to me-first basketball? Do we get anything out of Mason on offense? Will Rick trust Wangmene or Chappy or Hill for a few minutes here or there? Heck, we don’t even know if our coach will let our point guard play tonight. If the mind games with J’Covan and Hamilton continue, we’re doomed, regardless of how disfunctional and inconsistent Wake may be.
5. Save Damion, our best offensive players are our worst defensive players and vise versa.

yup, we have a lot of good role players

but they’re all one-dimensional, and you can only play 5 of them on the court at the same time.

Reason Texas Wins

1. Damion James—DaMo continues to be a mismatch at the college level. Aminu is taller and may have more NBA upside, but Damion is a better college player.
2. Hamilton plays team basketball. Over the last few weeks, Jordan’s game has taken huge steps forward. If Rick lets him play, I expect Jordan to have a huge game.
3. By now, J’Covan has to have figured out what Rick wants and needs. Brown makes the necessary, not the spectacular pass, attacks the ball, and attemps to move his feet on defense.
4. Dexter plays like a man. This is a make some money game for Sexy Dex. If he plays strong and doesn’t back down, he has a chance to regain tons of lost pro money. Sadly Dexter rarely dominates elite competition, but maybe tonight.
5. The defense returns. Presumably, Texas got yelled at all week long about their recent defensive efforts or lack thereof. Wake is not a great offensive team, and if Texas plays good team defense, they should have no trouble cutting off driving lanes and protecting the defensive glass. If they do those two things, Wake won’t be able to shoot their way to victory.
6. Seniors. Damion, Dexter, and Mason will the ’Horns to at least one more victory.

--AW--

by awiggo on Mar 18, 2010 8:05 PM CDT reply actions

Dexter and $$$

he can really regain most of what he’s lost if he can hold his own against Cousins.

While I'm still not a fan of it

all these upsets and close upsets gave the NCAA a reason to add more teams to the tournament.

by goingforthecorner on Mar 18, 2010 8:31 PM CDT reply actions

actually I'd say the opposite

Adding more just makes it into a lottery where the best teams will lose upsets and the national championship becomes little more than the main event in the World Series of Poker. There are almost too many teams already in my eyes.

Read an interesting point on Barking Carnival

the assistant coaches we’ve lost recently have affected us big time. I’m guessing they did the X’s and O’s, while Barnes was more like a manager and recruiter. Now our assistants are young and inexperienced.

Sure seems that way based on how our offense looks.

Timeout

I’d like to see Hamilton take a three before half. He’s on tonight.

Freshmen are playing well tonight.

…was worried they would have the jitters.

Bradley is actually asserting himself. I was worried he would get lost tonight.

Now if we could get Pittman to contribute something other than fouls….

poor ending to the half.

Kansas will probably wear them down in the 2nd half though.

Hamilton

just seems like a young T-Mac to me – if he drives to the basket he could blow this wide. If he goes T-Slack he has to be really on to hit all those three’s. So far he’s been the wildcard stud.

by shadyrock on Mar 18, 2010 9:56 PM CDT reply actions

Living and dying on Hamilton making three pointers...

Luckily he made them in the first half. Hate to see what the score would of been if he was off.

by cj43 on Mar 18, 2010 9:57 PM CDT up reply actions

We are BIZARRE

I dont remember a team that scores 7 pts in 10 minutes then 31 the next 10 minutes on a REGULAR basis

Bradley airballs and looks awful… then plays lights out the last 10 minutes
James and Pittman are no where but Hammy plays solid

Bright side

We’re 9-13 from FT, and 5-12 from 3pt land, thanks to Hamilton with 4 of them.

We have a lead while allowing our opponent to shoot 46.9%

Agreed Id like to see him, but knowing Barnes...

Also Brown needs the tough love with his checkered passed and Barnes usually does well in the long run with those guys (ex. PJ Tucker)
