NCAA Tournament Second Round Sunday Open Thread

After a relatively quiet Friday to close out the first round, the Madness erupted again on Saturday.

No. 11 Washington, No. 10 St Mary's, and No. 9 Northern Iowa each pulled off seeding upsets. No. 6 Tennessee and No. 5 Butler advanced to the Sweet 16 even though their seeds suggest their seasons should be over. And No. 1 Kentucky, No. 2 Kansas State, and No. 3 Baylor close out the first eight entries to the second week of NCAA play.

Another eight teams will join them by day's end. What, your bracket is wrecked? Take a number! Isn't it great?

I don't think we'll see as much craziness today, but I hope to be proven wrong.

I'll take Syracuse, Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Cornell, Xavier, Texas A&M, and Duke. Who you got?

Syracuse and Gonzaga

open the day. Gus Johnson on the national call. He’s gonna lose it if this is close in the final minute.

He really just loves the game of basketball.

I'm sure I screwed up by picking against KenPom, with MSU over UMD

But I definitely feel pretty good about Xavier.

Boycott Facebook. It's lame. Inform your real friends that you're going to communicate with them like a normal human being, and then delete your account. Seriously.

Cuse looking very much like No. 1 seed

Syracuse is destroying Gonzaga on both ends. 69-41, 12 min left in game.

Syracuse vs. Kentucky would be a nice title game.

That would really help my bracket

If OSU gets kncked off there is no a way for me to lose if UK goes all the way… KU losing knocked out about half the brackets in my league

Cornell is looking like the real deal…

Four Good Games

Mizzou/West Va and Ohio St/Ga Tech both very close at half.

Michigan St with a shaky nine pt lead at half.

Cornell on pace to be a up a few at half.

The next hour or so could be really fun.

Some good games at half

Kansas/UNI

How many picked UNI over KU? Yea, ba-bee I did.

Maybe it was only because I picked UNI to win, but I sure felt like the refs were letting the teams play all game long, but then started calling some pretty petty fouls in the final minutes. I felt like the refs were doing all they could to help KU win.

If you simply dismissed UNI because they were playing KU or it was “northern Iowa” or they are from the Missouri Valley, then that’s too bad. UNI’s losses this year were largely due in part because they couldn’t hit the 3’s.

Hey…the rest of my bracket is toast……at least let me gloat because I picked this one.

is my hope for the big 12 to do well actually making me root a bit for the ags?

Speaking of rooting for Big XII

(i’d say I am in general), good one between Mizzou & WVU: Tigers down 3 to start the half

I know, right?

Perhaps it has to do that we are a football school and most traditions stem from the football rivalries. I recall the classy sign when the Horns were headed to pasadena in 2005 “just for one day: Hook’em.”

I think that is how I feel about Baylor and aTm in this tourney. It also has something to do, imho, with OU replacing the aTm as the most hated rival.

Nice pick on Cornell. I have Cuse vs. Kentuckey in the final with the Cuse winning. I will be really shocked if A&M or BU does not make the final 4. That region is just very weak. Too bad we didn’t draw this region when Acie was a senior. I actually think BU has a better shot than A&M does. More scorers and a nice inside-out game. If they make the final 4, it will make the forthcoming NCAA investigation all the more sweet.

Man,

even Aggies coming to BON to take shots at Scott Drew. I like it.

Baylor is better than St. Mary’s and will at least be in the Elite 8. Not sure about the top of the bracket. Still like Duke, if they can get past Cal later today.

Missouri not playing their style of ball

Tigers aren’t going to come back unless the pace picks up. West Virginia will advance if this stays a halfcourt game.

Missouri needs helter skelter, turnovers, fast breaks, etc to win.

I give credit where it is due...

Scoreboard. But, the style of play leaves a bit to be desired for me personally. I am sure it is simply what I have been exposed to over the years. Why does the conference have this “grind it out, blue collar” persona? Is it just me?

BTW, dotting the “I” is in my top 5 CFB traditions. Period.

I would call it the anti J’Covan and Hamilton conference, lot’s smart coaches pushing talent to the limit with high Basketball IQ on the bench and the court.
