Around SBN: Ryder Hesjedal Wins Giro d'Italia

Apologies for failing to get an open thread up for today's game, but real life got in the way for both of us. Regardless, the bats came alive for Texas today as the Longhorns sent Nebraska packing 13-3. Brandon Workman scattered 7 hits in a complete game effort. Texas next plays Tuesday evening at 6 against Rice in Austin, the rubber match of the non-conference rivals' three-game season series.

Just want to get your take on this

I would love to see TJ pitch this game against Rice just so we can take the series against them. I understand he normally pitches the Friday games, but this game imo against Rice is far more important then the Red Raider game this weekend. Even if he pitched on Tuesday he could still pitch the Sunday game against Tech. I’m pretty sure Augie is going to go with Dicharry or Milner though.

Would Keep With Program

Truth is – this team is headed to Omaha for a NC matchup. Whatever works for TJ in the long run is ok with me. Hook em.

Not crazy, but not a great idea

Kriess essentially nails my thoughts on this. If you look at it from a perspective that starts on Tuesday, then sure—it makes sense. He could still go Sunday on four days’ rest, and then get back into the Friday role next week on another four days’ rest. And while I don’t agree with your premise that the Rice game is more important than any conference game (in fact, their pitching choice will likely reflect a similar attitude despite being in Conference USA), your position could still be defended on the grounds that the Sunday conference game counts the same as the Friday conference game.

BUT, as I said, kriess hits the issue here. It’s not what we would do after Tuesday; it’s the fact that he’d be going on three days’ rest on Tuesday. Particularly when your arm is used to a full week’s rest between starts, you don’t want to start messing with the rotation until it’s absolutely necessary—i.e., the postseason. At the end of the day, this Rice game is significant for no reason other than the fact that it’s the Rice game. Texas’ shot at a top eight national seed in the NCAA Tournament will have little or nothing to do with its outcome.

Another reason for no TJ start

Is that Jungmann is already going to have a high pitch count. He’s thrown 100+ pitches in at least each of the last three starts (and probably more). At the end of the season you’ll want him to be as rested as possible so that he can be fresh for (hopefully) Omaha.

Your 100% right

Regionals, Supers, and Omaha is when will need him the most. No need to blow his arm out in the month of March for Rice. And yes like I stated below I have done a 180 from what I said yesterday.

Wasn't meaning to pile on :)

I (JA) hadn’t realized all the (AO) comments below. Wouldn’t mind a win against Rice though, especially at the Disch.

Cmon Craig! You fu#%ing up the rotation! Puff puff, give!

You lucky you my boy, cuz you can get killed with that shit ’round here.

You don’t want to mess up the rotation until we get to June, where every game counts for something. If we pitch TJ on Tuesday, he’ll be working on 3 days rest. His stuff was off on Friday, so that tells us he certainly needs those extra days to get his game back on track. AD or HM will suffice for the mid-week games. In all honesty, Rice is an important game, but not as important as winning a series against a Big 12 team. Its all about lighting up that tower in late May. Keep in mind that Rice is throwing their midweek starter as well. Lets jump on him early and get to that weakened bullpen.

Hook em!

You all made good points

I now feel like I just got bitch slapped in here.

Certainly not my intention...

…to make you feel that way and I apologize if I did. I don’t think what you proposed is silly, just that it wouldn’t be in the best interest of the team for a couple of reasons. That said, I would love to win the season series against Rice, because screw those guys.

Have you ever seen an owl beat a longhorn out in nature?

Didn’t think so. Nothing to worry about man. We got this!

Its all good fellas, I really didn't get butt hurt on what you had to say!

Looking back at what I posted yesterday I guess it does sound a little ridiculous to start switching up the rotation for 1 game, even if that 1 game is Rice. The only reason why I thought it was a good idea, is because lately our offense has been a little inconsistent. TJ on the other hand has been nothing more than lights out, I would say him and Ruffin are our most consistent pitchers as of lately. Anyways I don’t want to keep rambling on here, I just like getting your opinions, and your take on things. I think you guys are the shit and like you were saying kriess nothing to worry about, we got this shit man, shit were Texas! HOOK’EM

I'm enjoying this baseball fan group as well

Can’t wait to beat Rice tomorrow night. Hook ’em!
