Texas vs. Houston Open Thread
Consider the questions about Chance Ruffin answered. For now. Ruffin came in and struck out three of the five batters he faced to shut the door after a very strong no-decision by Taylor Jungmann (7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 8 Ks). Jungmann's ERA has now skyrocketed to 0.83 while Chance has now given up just the one earned run in six appearances (0.82 ERA). Brandon Loy's batting average may still stink but he had the biggest hit of the night for the Horns, an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to give Texas the lead for good. After an incredible start, Tant Shepherd is coming back down to earth with an 0-11 performance his last three games, but Tant got on base and scored both runs for Texas on Friday. The win over Rice broke a four game losing streak to the Owls.
It'll be Brandon Workman on the mound at 3:30 PM today against Houston's Friday starter the first two weeks of the season Michael Goodnight (1-1, 6.52 ERA). There's free video for the game available here.

Last night we were 20 minutes late
So I’d guess it would start in the next 10 minutes, no idea though
Listening to these broadcasters
makes me even more grateful for Craig & Keith.
“How ’bout it baby!”
“Wooo son!”
Seriously, Cougar High?
Rowe hammers a ball to left center
Just missed a homer, deep part of the ballpark so it’s a long out
These broadcasters are getting on my nerves
Learn the rules, for crying out loud.
At least we are running up Goodnight's pitch count
He’s closing in on 50 after 2 innings.
I can't believe the umps are allowing this
It is explicitly against the rules to argue a balk call.
I'm switching over to Keith & Bill
Keith usually gives the count pretty frequently when it’s getting high, but best I can figure, he’s around 65 or so.
Keyes smokes one to straight away center
But the park’s too deep. That’s a homer in Omaha.
1-0 Houston Bot 3
Kevin Lusson
0-1 foul
1-1 low
1-2 foul
2-2 low
3-2 high
K swinging
Rowe flied out to center for the 1st out
Two outs, no one one
Kyle Lusson
0-1 looking
1-1 low
2-1 high
2-2 foul
K swinging
7 Ks for Goodnight, but 82 pitches through 4 innings
2-3-4 up for Rice
Strike out swinging for the first out
Strike out swinging for the 2nd out
Workman in a groove
Loy flashes the leather again for the 3rd out
Must get to Goodnight in this inning.
Loy flies out to left
Quick inning for Goodnight. 90 pitches after 5.
Single up the middle past Etier
2 outs, runner on 1st
4-pitch walk
2 outs, runners on 1st and 2nd
Owls bring in a pinch runner at 2nd
Workman strikes out Still to end the inning
He’s thrown 59 pitches through 5 innings
Raynor Noble will milk Goodnight for all he can get
Need to get runners on base
Rowe, Lusson, Lusson up for Texas
Goodnight at just over 100 pitches
Can't let this guy have 6-pitch innings
His control is not that great.
Make him work for it.
We have faced a couple of good pitchers this weekend
But our offense has been horrible. No way around it.
Starting with Etier, Shepherd, and Loy
Loy has one of those Horns’ 2 hits today, so we’ve got that going for us
Etier had to swing at that high pitch
Because of the ump’s terrible call on the pitch before
Another BS call
But our base running has been awful too
It seems like I remember something like that last night
when I was at Minute Maid….

This ump is all over the place
Talk about moving the goalposts
Rowe has been clutch
Let’s see if he can pull it out
Strikeout, gotta take a swing at that
must have been guessing slider. Ugh.

What a shitty day
losing to fucking Baylor and U of H on the same day.

Yeah
I would walk a wide ciricle around Brandon Workman tonight if I were those guys
Is this something we'll have to worry about all year?
Starting pitching playing their hearts out but getting no run support?
