O/T: UT gets papers of David Foster Wallace
This is off-topic, but I know we have some DFW readers here at BON so I thought I'd share. The Ransom Center has aquired a lot of Wallace's personal manuscripts, research, early works, etc, and will be displaying selected items in the lobby through April 9.

Nice find
I’ve never once tried to tackle DFW, but there’s no doubt he’s held in cult-like esteem by his followers. I imagine it like the way I follow Lost.
The Ransom Center is superb, and a must-visit for any UT student.

My first thought was, “why would people in Dallas care more about this?”
Did he have a connection to Texas?
He grew up in the Midwest, taught in Illinois, then went to California.
From the article:
Wallace came to the center’s attention years ago, largely through the endorsement of writer DeLillo, whose papers were acquired by the Ransom in 2004.
“Wallace idolized DeLillo, and DeLillo thought of him as one of the really promising young American writers, so we thought we better look into it,” Staley said.
The center sent Wallace a letter while he was still alive inquiring about his papers, “but he never replied,” said Megan Barnard, the deputy director for administration and acquisitions.
In early 2009, Wallace’s estate approached the Ransom , which acquired the material in December. Officials declined to discuss the mechanics of the deal or the price.
Normally, such a large amount of work would require more than a year of archiving and processing, but the Wallace papers will be available to researchers and the public in the fall.
I was going to post his Kenyon College commencement speech
but apparently it was published after his death, and the publisher has cracked down on its distribution on the interwebs.
I have no doubt that the fact that I do not recognize the name...
…speaks to my cultural illiteracy. After reading a bit about the guy and his writing in the past few minutes, I think I’ll have to check out some of his works. Sounds pretty interesting.
I have beat wholesale ass for a whole lot less.

I've never read any of his books
I did read his essay on Federer, though. But I do remember learned_hand’s one and only fanpost dedicated to him after he died.

That post is a reason why I'm a huge fan of L_H
And into DFW too.
