Remaining 2011 Recruiting Needs

  1. RB - Brown/Green (biggest need)
  2. DB/LB - Turner/Wallace
  3. DT - Russell/Anderson
  4. OT - Hegarty (if there's room?)
  5. Any other national prospects?

Agree

1. We def need to sign Brown or Green. I feel like we get Brown and Green signs somewhere else
2. We def need Turner, which I feel we have a really real good shot at. I think Wallace will sign with ou or somewhere else, but LB is not a big concern right now
3. I agree we need either Russell or Anderson
4. I dont think were pursuing Hegarty as much now, with all the OL we got, but you never know
5. I think we should try to sign another CB, try to get Turner and maybe Jackson. I feel like we need 1 more DB in this class.

What if.....

Mack got a little worried about our O line’s depth and feels that he offered Cochran and Doyle a little too soon. Could he coax one of them into a possible decommit scenario in order to get Hegarty? I mean in all reality they probably won’t get much play time with Westerman and Greenlea in the mix but for the same reason I doubt Hegarty would commit with so much competition at OT.

Not really a need...

but I think Muschamp really wants James Vaughters from Georgia. He’s a linebacker and I know we’re pretty set there, but this guy is a playmaker. If we can get him our linebackers will be incredible for the next four years….Jordan Hicks, Steve Edmond, and maybe James Vaughters would be the best linebacking corps in the Big 12 for sure!

yep

We stopped recruiting Vaughters and also Rasco I think. As far as Wallace goes I have yet hear hear anyone say we have stopped recruiting him. I agree that we are getting close to full but he may be that good of a talent.

Have not been in contact with Wallace

and I would expect the same to happen with Rasco here.

LB

Well with the incoming class of J. Hicks, T. Jackson, A. Benson, and now getting S. Edmond, C. Moss, and K. Thompson were still going to have one of the best linebacker corp in the league.

Other than one of the two targeted

running backs, nothing else matters. Quality, if available, an any position. . . . Only other need I would call even semi important would be a cornerback.

I’d expect 1-2 committed players to opt out, and 2-3 players to get offers (and to commit) between Nov. 1 and signing day.

my list

Brown
Turner
Russell/Anderson

Russell may come back but remember Anderson and Brown go to school together at Byron M. Steele HS. That packaged deal can really sway someone who is having trouble deciding.

I'm getting worried...

about the total number of scholarships, anyone know how many well have for next year assuming we get three more commits this year?

by TowerPower on Apr 25, 2010 8:45 PM CDT reply actions

Why are you worried?

Let the coaches worry about that! =)

I like to think....

that I’m a coach in some crazy roundabout way….don’t bust my bubble.

by TowerPower on Apr 25, 2010 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions

If we get 3 more commits

to the 2011 signing class (23 total), the projection is that the roster would be 7 players over the 85 limit. Senior class for this fall projects to 16.

As Sunkist said, "Let the coaches . . .

In reality, the coaches already know where the roster will be trimmed (meaning attrition). They probably have a pretty good idea which players this refers to. They wouldn’t be extending so many offers unless they knew (approx.) where the scholarship space would come from.

by edsp on Apr 25, 2010 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Is that attrition number including guys like Irby?

I think this was discussed a couple of recruits ago, but I can’t remember whether Blaine Irby (and wasn’t there another player who was counting against scholarship limits despite a long-term injury?) would reduce that number to six if he were to retire due to his injury, or whether he’s already accounted for in the number being set at seven.

Will not be pursuing Hegarty

Both sides have moved on.

Agree with the rest of the list, but, as I mentioned above, the coaches are not and probably will not actively recruit Wallace unless it gets down to the end and the team is at 22 scholarships and can take him.

No other national prospects really on the radar at this point.

ESPN

Has us pursing Rasco but not Russell? Does that make any sense or is it a mistake?
