Thompson with some nice ballhandling in the open court

puts the pressure on the defense then dishes to Joseph for an easy layup. Nice play in transition from the big guy.

Now a spin into the lane from Thompson

and a nice little floater for the finish. One of the more impressive one-on-one moves I’ve seen him make.

Thompson again for his sixth basket

This time taking a steal the distance for a swooping layup. Having a lot of success handling the ball in the open court right now.

Thompson starting another fast break

this time making the outlet pass that leads to an alley-oop layup for Joseph.

Kid seems like a ball magnet. Always around the ball off the glass.

by NeTexHorn on Apr 3, 2010 12:52 PM CDT reply actions

He's really cleaned up the glass tonight.

He seems to track the ball pretty well and anticipate how it’s going to come off the rim. Texas will be counting on him to get 8-10 rebounds a game next year so it’s a good sign.

Enjoy watching this Findlay team play

They have a lot of athletes, just like they did last season, but they play hard, selflessly, and fundamentally, not something easy to do for a group that is essentially a high school all-star team. Definitely a reflection of the head coach, who I think does an excellent job with this team. These guys will be well-prepared for college basketball. It’s not a huge coincidence that Avery Bradley improved so much from the time he got there to when he left. A lot of that is Bradley, but a lot of that is Peck as well.

I like how he anticipates double teams

against pressure and makes early moves to avoid that pressure instead of dribbling towards it.

Didn't count

But a look at the impressive body control of Joseph there finishing after taking a major bump to the body.

Joseph may not end up at Texas, but I’m going to be a fan of his wherever he ends up.

What sets Joseph apart as a shooter

is his ability to catch the ball on balance and then land in the same spot he jumps from. Perfectly neutral — that pre-shot preparation is the base part of shooting and understanding that has really helped someone like LeBron, for instance, become a much more consistent jumpshooter.

amen

really trying to avoid getting my hopes up, but… man.

by drbadass on Apr 3, 2010 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Wow, CJ

Absolutely nothing but the bottom on that J. Tickled the twine on that one. And that’s why I like him playing off the ball some because he could be so dangerous coming off screens and looking for his shot aggressively. It’s too simplistic to just call him a point guard because he can do so much more as a shooter.

Much Higher Level of Play

Than the McD’s game… Thompson and Joseph both look much more fluid

by HornsUpInLA on Apr 3, 2010 1:27 PM CDT reply actions

Couple of forced shots there by Johnson.

Agree with Jay Williams about Joseph needing to assert himself there.

by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Apr 3, 2010 1:31 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed

Findlay looked much better going inside out earlier in the quarter

Thompson and DaMo

Looks a lot like a young Damion… Whole lot of athlete but a lot of work to go on refining the basketball skills

WOW

Huge Dunkface by Thompson

Any thoughts on who we go after if we can’t get Joseph?

by HornsUpInLA on Apr 3, 2010 1:37 PM CDT reply actions

No one else on the radar right now that I know of

I guess someone could pop up in the July evaluation period. Right now, I’m starting to think that if Avery Bradley stays, Joseph may go somewhere else where the guard rotation isn’t so congested. But if Bradley leaves, then the Longhorns probably have a better chance. Not sure if it will play out like that, but I can’t really figure out any other angle than that.

Look that Way

Cupboard looks pretty bare on most of the Rankings I’ve seen, but maybe a Varez Ward type pickup lurking out there.

Any possibility Joseph thinks his chemistry with Bradley would help him get more PT, especially with his Defensive prowess and Brown being in the Doghouse

by HornsUpInLA on Apr 3, 2010 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I tihnk that's a possibility re: Joseph and Bradley

but I think a lot of the appeal to coming to Texas would be playing with Thompson and then having the chance to re-unite with Kabongo as well the next season — those three guys are the ones who grew up playing together.

by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Apr 3, 2010 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Doesn't Joseph start if he comes to Texas?

I don’t see anyone that should be infront of him.

He would probably start.

Some of that depends on whether Bradley comes back and where Brown is in his battle with Rick Barnes. I can see Joseph getting along better with Barnes than Brown has so far and getting more playing time and a longer leash because of it. But there are other guys who would play. I don’t see Lucas playing much, but Ward will probably play a lot.

by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Apr 3, 2010 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree that Ward would play a lot...but I imagine things looking like this...

PG – Joseph/Ward
SG – Bradley/Brown
SF – Hamilton/Williams
PF – Johnson/Wangmene
C – Thompson/Chapman

To me Thompson is more of a foward

But we could just play a two forward offense, something about a center in Barne’s offense kind of crowds things.

Joseph has all the Tools to Start

Shot … check
Passing… check
Good on the Dribble… check
Defense… Check

Strength will probably be the biggest challenge

by HornsUpInLA on Apr 3, 2010 2:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Not a stupid question at all.

In my understanding, some of these private schools aren’t allowed to play in the state tournaments, so it made sense to give some of those schools a spotlight tournament.

I don’t know that much about Yates, but if they’re ranked among the top teams in the country, they probably are good enough.

Joseph really can finish at the rim. We need him in Burnt Orange.

Thompson can't hit FTs...he'll fit right in at Texas!

Hoping Joseph is so pumped during the post game interview (if they do those)

That he commits to Texas…just hoping!

I'm really excited about Thompson.

Hopefully Joseph joins him.

Now to turn attention to the Final Four. Then the Spring game!!

Barnes vs. Izzo - coachable players

Anyone else agree that Barnes downfall(not saying he’s a bad coach) in coaching may be due to the types of players he recruits? The one and dones ….and the uncoachable with attitude? I just don’t see the same thing in programs like NC, Duke, Mich St., . I mean yes you will make that run and go far but can you win it all with this philosophy?

by Dawnpatrol on Apr 3, 2010 4:07 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

No comparison

Izzo has a plan for each game and an offensive scheme. Barnes recruits them, yells at them and then sends them out without a clear game plan:

- Motionless offense
- Helpless Man-to-Man

Got the Second Half Only

the announcers said they thought Bradley should stay in school. They said he has areas that he could improve in.

At least Thompson can play long stretches unlike Dex.He can also bring the ball up if need be.

The two A-A that played inMickey D’s game looked to have dead legs.
