Around SBN: Ryder Hesjedal Wins Giro d'Italia

My guess is he's gone. He'll probably go in the first round based on upside and the overall weakness of the class.

oh and as far as avery goes, i don't think he goes first round

he should try to mold his game in the form of little curry
but,
he probably won’t
so best of luck to the guy

Good luck Avery!

Right

AJ did it and it worked out best for him/us.

Stumpy: It's called the '80s. Ford was president, Nixon was in the White House, and FDR was running this country into the ground. I was bummin' in a hole-in-the-wall town in what is now called "Utah".

I am still hopeful.

Maybe Tristan Thompson can talk some sense into the boy.

The big question, is does his decision affect Cory Joseph's decision?

If Bradley leaves

I think Texas has a better chance with Joseph, but it Bradley stays I think Joseph ends up at Villanova.

by Wescott Eberts (GoBR) on Apr 7, 2010 4:47 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't see why

They play different positions. Joseph and Bradley would be on the floor together…..with Tristan Thompson and Jordan Hamilton. How could you not want that if you are Joseph?

Joseph is competing with Brown and Lucas for the point. Bradley and Ward for the 2 guard. At least that is what I would think.

It's hard to tell what these HS players are thinking.

I think you’re right, I hope Bradley stays, and I hope Joseph comes to Austin. That would be a fun lineup to watch.

The even bigger question is

is our team better with Bradley or Joseph?

by 2Cor12:9 on Apr 7, 2010 7:52 AM CDT up reply actions

Joseph

from what I’ve seen Bradley is a good defender and has a good mid-range game but is not particularly good anything else, merely solid. With Varez coimng back, we can replace the defender, as far as the mid range game goes, AB never really asserted himself. I think Joseph is a better scorer than AB and better distrutor than anyone on the team.

by billb on Apr 7, 2010 8:41 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed on Joseph

we desperately need someone to run the show at the point.

by silky51 on Apr 7, 2010 11:17 AM CDT up reply actions

definitely Joseph

No contest. Bradley was overrated as a freshman and shot horribly during the year, regressing from midseason. We need a scoring point guard more than we need another guard-type defensive specialist.

Avery No. 21 by ESPN's Ford

Hard to see where he fits in the NBA a small 2-Guard or does he slide over to Pt.
Granted its a very weak class for Guards and just overall.

His Strength (He got Stripped CONSTANTLY the last half of the yr) and consistency of his shot (FT/3pt) have to be huge question marks at this point. Who wants a Guard in the NBA that can’t consistently make FT above 60% or shot 3s at a good clip. He rarely even takes a shot from NBA range so I dont even know what his percentage is like from there.

I think eventually he pulls out of the draft, both of those areas of concern are correctable with time. If he stays he has a similar style to Turner and could watch his stock rise a great deal by staying. If he goes I think hes a late 1st rounder to Early 2nd.

Talking About Shooting %

Bradley’s stats were skewed some with very good games againg the Big 12 bottom feeders, Colorado, ISU, and Nebraska. If you drop these 3 games, his stats for all other B12 games (and tourney) were -
13-53 (24.5%) on 3 pointers with none made in his last 6 games.
3-24 (12.5%) on 3 pointers in the last 9 games.
54% – Overall free throw % for the year.
39% – 2 pt shooting
This is NBA material?? And as you mentioned, I believe the NBA 3 pt line is a tad farther back than college.

And as for all the mention about his defensive ability, I’m not sure that the NBA places a high emphasis on defense or defensive ability. If so, I imagine Dogus will have a long and storied career in the NBA.

Has him up to 13th! That’s ridiculous based on how he has played to this point. Although they have him going to the team that took Thabeet at 2 last year and had to D-league him, so…..

Just for fun: Better future pro, Willie Warren or Bradley? Who is drafted first?

by Jhal2315 on Apr 8, 2010 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Depends on which GM it is and how many headaches he's gotten from prima donnas.

Warren is a good offensive talent & a good overall player . . . but w/ an attitude. Bradley’s probably not quite as polished in his shooting but, IMO, a better over player w/ a better upside . . . w/ no atttude issues so far. This choice is easy for me: Bradley.

Smart move

Given the labor situation, an NBA prospect would do well to test the waters. Money for, say, the #10 ranked player may be less after the dust settles. And in a stronger draft, that player may be ranked lower. At very least, Bradley will know where he stands.

Anyone can see that Bradley needs to improve his game in several areas. As the season started, he seemed to be determined to learn and hung on Barnes’ every word, but by midseason his progress had stopped. So the question is whether he thinks Barnes can teach him what he needs, compared to what he’d get as a rookie.

At least he's not hiring an agent

good. Would not be surprised if he comes back.

Honestly..

If you really think about it he didn’t really do jack for us. Trust me, I was so excited when he committed to us but now that the season is done and his stats are Waste Management garbage. Also, in my opinion how could you even consider leaving for the draft knowing you didn’t do anything nor lived up to your hype?

3/24 at 3-pointers? Wow. That is sad, and the worst part is you guys know he shoots the open ones from the corners and 3/24?

Sorry for the venting but it drives me nuts

by struglin2thetop on Apr 8, 2010 3:18 AM CDT reply actions

Okay, so tell us what great shooter, currently on the roster, are you gonna start in his place?

Of any UT guard this past season w/ significant playing time, Bradley had the highest FG% & 3pt %. Plus, he logged way more minutes on the court than anyone on the roster except for DaMo. That means he was playin’ D & giving the effort his coach expected of him. I’m not gonna dispute the fact that he shot poorly down the stretch – (esp. free throws (everyone)) – or that it’s ridiculous for him to go pro but, dude, he was far from being Waste Management garbage this year.

by robthecob on Apr 9, 2010 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions

He was the best at that position

I don’t think you’d start anyone in front of him. It’s just that he had a disappointing finish to a disappointing season and it’s hard to justify ‘one-and-done’ in his case. Or that we’re even having the discussion. I don’t view this with the same interest as when Damion James made his decision. He established himself as a Longhorn, Bradley hasn’t IMO.

It seems like everyone is all, "Fire the Coach!" w/out any better option lined up.

I agree that it would be ridiculous for Bradley to go pro . . . but I still think he played hard, did well (better than given credit), and represents UT well. It’s indisputable. IMO he’s only teasing w/ the NBA to see A – What his stock is and B – Where he needs to improve. Atleast, for his sake, I hope he’s not serious. I don’t see it as much comparable to DaMo’s decision. DaMo was ready to go last year but one more year of terrific improvement put him solidly in lottery discussion. I see this more along the lines of Durant vs. Bradley. Durant was ready in every way as the #1 player in the draft. Bradley’s not even close. But he’s still better than ANY guard we have on the roster or ANY recruit who might come in. Critics, be careful what you wish for.

I’m just sayin’ that it would benefit both him & UT for him to stay. Folks can criticize him all they want but he’s still a crucial cog to UT’s success next year.

Bradley

Am I off base in thinking Baylor, KU, and K St. each had a pair of guards better than AB? That A&M, Tech, OU, OkSt and Mizzou each had one G better than AB? How could he even be a second round choice? I do see his upside, but he can develop that better in the Big 12 than in the NBADL.

Watched Thomson and Joseph in the Nike game and both would play a lot here. Joseph did not look better than AB did in similar post-HS all star games last year. But he has a lot of tools and is a real pt. G. I hope we get Joseph.

If AB is testing the water and Lace Dunn is not that is upside-down. There is nothing Bradley does as well as Dunn; Singler was stifled by Dunn. Baylor whipped us three times. Without Balbay, Dunn and Carter were unstoppable by us. Think about it: AB just is not there yet and he is not close.
