Great Find, edsp.
I thought the most interesting thing said there was on USC’s Spring Game.
“I didn’t get to good a feel there.”
That place is a sinking ship.

I’m glad him and Seantrell Henderson won’t be on the same line at the same time.

nice find..
..you should read the comments left by the Arizona people. They make it seem like Westerman had already committed to one of the Arizona schools and then de-committed.
yeah.. kinda Sooneresque

We pout similarly
when big time targets of ours go outside the state. I would be more disappointed in apathy on their part.

Disagree
We pout when a kid doesn’t commit AND he does it in a less than honorable fashion. I read some venom over JMac (he lied) and Dixon (decommited without any class). When Jake Matthews went to A&M or Walsh to Okie Lite – nothing except best wishes. Westerman never promised AZ anything and felt at home at Texas.
How about Adrian Peterson
I am not saying we are venemous at the kid. I didn’t think they were doing that on this site either. (Maybe I missed some).
What I am saying is, when we miss out on a HUGE target like Westerman was for the state of Arizona, we are disappointed in our staff for not getting him. Just like they seemed to be disappointed in D. Errickson.
Moreover, I am saying this is a good thing. Apathy in this case would be weird.

I think there is a difference
At least from my perception anyway. There are always idiots out there that will spew venom at players for making a choice that doesn’t fall in line with their own. But the majority of fans (on BON anyway) are pretty respectful of players decisions when they don’t involve us. The only negativity I’ve seen on BON is more directed at potential recruiting philosophy differences. Some agree with a coaches approach and others don’t.
The only time BON people seem to take issue with the player is when they approach the situation with less than desirable intentions. I think the problem is that we’re not necessarily looking at ASU and UA websites. We’re looking at a newspapers site. Watch the AAS and Dallas Morning News when a Texas recruit chooses OU or some other school over us and the morons will come out in full force.
And I completely agree with your reply.
I did not see many idiotic responses on the site directed at the kid. But admittedly I did not look that hard.
Mostly they just seemed pissed that neither staff could get the best recruit in the state to go to AZ or ASU, whichever they were rooting for. And I think we would be too.
If there were some idiots on there spewing whatever at the kid…… then you are spot on. I am glad that is not a part of BON.

It really just depends on the situation and how the kid handles it.
Adrian Peterson’s comment of (I paraphrase) “Texas is good but ou wins championships” ON national-signing day WHILE he’s been teasing UT coaches for months – that just plain creates bad karma. Well, he missed out on a national championship, a chance to be in the greatest backfield of all-time (w/ VY), and a chance to play for Mack Brown. His loss. My hatred for all-things-suckin’ sooners obviously goes pretty deep. I’ll always consider him a traitor to his home state. What Jamarkus MacFarland did was worse, though. Totally classless. I hate it when these kids go out-of-state, especially just across the Red.
But then you’ve got others who keep a low profile and decide early enough w/out being misleading to anyone – ain’t nothing wrong with that.
Anytime a kid is from another state and decommits from the Horns (Brantley, Scott, Perrilloux, etc…), I don’t have too much of a problem with that. Just don’t mislead coaches into keeping your position / scholarship spot locked up until it’s too late to replace you.
Yeah, I don't know
Maybe I am naive, but I am pretty slow to criticize a 17 year old for much when it comes to dealing with grown men. The J-Mac thing was pretty ridiculous though.
If half the things I did/said when I was 17 were in print, I would be pretty embarassed. Plus, when AP left HS…. Texas was good, but OU did win (a) championship. So I don’t know.
Then again, I didn’t follow too much recruiting back then. OK, I am done flip-flopping.

Hey
We’ve been burnt a few times so it’s good we get some back :)
You know
one angle no one is really talking about here is what a great win this is for Greg Davis. We talked about Muschamp going out of state for a big recruit last year with Hicks…… awesome that the offense gets a huge recruit out of state this year.
Shows the philosophy of 1 – get all the in-state talent we want. 2 – key in on a select few out of state “Studs”, is working on both offense and defense.
