Jordan Hamilton is Returning

Jordan hamilton is returning.  he will be wearing the #3 instead of #23.  Hopefully he will return and provide some leadership and play like he did towards the end of the season.  I think he was possibly the best player on the team (beside DJ) at the end.  Since Avery is testing and most likely declaring, we will need J Ham to step up and fill the void when DJ leaves.

I Hope

he learns to play defense over the summer.

Since I read that 5 Kentucky players are declaring for the draft and all probably have a better resume than Bradley, I think he may be returning also.

Bradley's decision will be mostly independent of Kentucky players...

…unless by some stroke the very last first round decision is a GM decision between Bradley and Kentucky Player X.

Bradley is declaring for the draft for the same reason the Kentucky players are:
1) They have reasonable assurances that they will be a first round draft pick
2) They are comfortable with the fact that this draft slot is “good enough” (and in the cases of players like Bradley or Patterson, this is “as high as they will get”)
3) There is a very real possibility that an NBA lockout is coming in 2011 and they don’t want to lose 2 years of earning potential

Hamilton is not declaring for the draft for this reason:
1) He does not have reasonable assurances that he will be a first round draft pick, and thus is not guaranteed any money going into the 2011 season

Also

In no way does Daniel Orton (he of the 3.4 PPG and 3.3 RPG) have a better resume than Bradley, but he does have (1) size and (2) potential.

Supposedly Sam Presti is enamored with him and has been dropping hints that OKC will take him with one of their two first rounders (they own Phoenix’s pick). There’s other outlandish rumors that he may be going in the top 10. The NBA: Where amazing (amounts of money are doled out to players based solely on potential) happens.

I think the NBA rookie payscale is pretty reasonable.

It’s nowhere near as ridiculous as the NFL.

Bradley's decision will be mostly independent of....

…. Kentucky players? I don’t think so. I’m thinking he’s been dropped a few spots and there is no reason to believe he’ll get off the bench very much in the NBA. He would be wise to stay at UT and get some quality play.

Hamilton should star next year

He really seemed to mature as the year went on. If that continues, and he can stay on the court, he should really fill it up next year. He is the most explosive scorer, outside of KD, we have seen in a long time. As for Bradley, I think he may disappointed with the feedback he receives from the NBA. You don’t see many defensive specialists getting drafted that high. I don’t see his appeal. He has a decent mid range game but far from dominant. He is not a very good 3 point shooter and will be even worse in the pro’s. He is a very average passer. He could be a nice penetrator but for whatever reason he didn’t show it much. So basically he is an undersized 2 guard that is average at best on the offensive end. He will have a place in the league with so many explosive scoring combo guards . Still I am not sure I would draft him at all much less in the 1st round.

Bradley would benefit with another year

I think he’s high on initial draft boards because of his name. But he can get better range, strength, stamina, experience, ball handling and passing by staying another year at Texas. 6’2 combo guards are not very common in the league, especially if they can’t consistantly knock down threes.

I think he should be prepared to be drafted in the 2nd round and then play in the D-League. That being said, if he gets a mid first-round grade, he should enter.

Hamilton has more upside

than Bradley, IMHO. He actually improved during the year. I’ll like seeing him with another 20 lbs. I would choose him over Bradley in the draft.

Great!

I personally think that Hamilton showed more potential than Bradley last year. Hopefully he can attain basket ball IQ over the off-season. If so, I see him being a fairly dominant offensive player with his D lagging far behind.

So, let's get this straight

Jordan Hamiliton is awesome in this thread, and Avery Bradley sucks in the other thread? Yet, Avery Bradley has higher FG and 3pt. percentage than Jordan Hamiliton. Way to go.

kinda funny how that works huh?

If Hamilton declared and Bradley announced he was coming back it would be the other way around.

I know it's become common to think JHam has more upside than Bradley . . .

. . . but basing it on better shooting and “upside” is kinda funny. Avery was a better playmaker (assists & penetrator), a better-conditioned player, and a far better ball-handler, defender, and team-player. He was also a better shooter, believe it or not. Bradley bested JHam in FG% (.432 vs. .410) and 3pt FG% (.375 vs. .365). JHam’s 6" height advantage over Bradley made him a slightly better overall rebounder (3.7 rpg vs. 2.9 rpg) but Avery was dead-even in offensive boards and far better in blocks. Bradley & Damion James, by far, logged the most minutes on the team this year while Hamilton had trouble just earning playing time and staying on the court. Bradley busts his tail every minutes he’s out there and that’s why JHam has trouble rebounding & playing defense for a player his height. He desire & will are no comparison to Bradley’s – at this time. I hope he overcomes this fault because I just loved his explosion against OkState. As much as you appreciate JHam’s potential, though, you’ve got to also appreciate Bradley’s consistency & relentlessness.

Potential is much less important to a team than productivity.

Except it took me under 15 words.

Try not to read emotions on an emotionless forum

It will help you lead a long and stress free life.

Emotionless?

Post-loss hand-wringing threads wave hello.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

This form of communication

is pretty ambiguous though. Has to do more with the mood of the reader than the writer. If I were in a joking mood and I read that “15 words” comment I would probably laugh.

Eh, sorry, I was making a joke

And thereby demonstrating that the medium lacks emotion, ironically enough.

Sorry for being wordy.

No, I did cover more subjects than you but, yes, I rambled a bit long. Cut me some slack. I have no formal training.

His team

Next year, Hamilton will be the main man. I’m expecting better numbers than Durant.
