So Phil Steele just released his All-America and All-Big 12 teams -- this post comes to you as a public service announcement just in case you experience a moment of utter stupidity when passing by a newsstand and feel the need to buy one of these things. Hopefully it isn't a newsflash that they're trash. Predictably, Steele declined to include Aaron Williams on either of his four All-American teams or on his first-team All-Big 12 list. Even Blake Gideon made fourth-team All-America and this isn't a time to bash the Texas safety, but why is it that no one in the national media understands how well Williams played last season? Ranking cornerbacks necessitates a great deal of film watching -- who would judge Champ Bailey's worth by his number of interceptions? Any half-witted football fan knows that quarterbacks don't throw in the direction of the most talented cornerbacks and that was the case with Williams in 2009 and will likely be the case again in 2010. The kid admitted last year that he prayed for opposing quarterbacks to throw at him. The lack of respect for what Williams does on the field is absolutely appalling and is a result of either laziness or stupidity. Phil Steele, you, sir, are a fool. /end rant Editor's Note: Phil Steele is not a fool, though leaving Aaron Williams off of his Preseason Awards teams was foolish. If there's one pre-season magazine besides the Eyes of Texas that you should buy, it's Steele's. If you understand that the analysis is limited by the difficulties inherent to trying to know 119 teams well, it's worth grabbing just for the sheer volume of information. --PB--
