With at least 80% of the 2010 class committed, I wanted to see how this class might stack up to previous classes. All guesses below are based on Rivals star ranking system, where players currently sit on the LSR 100 and perceived buzz around various players.
5 Stars
OL - Westerman
5/4 Stars
DT - Jackson
DB - Evans
OL - Greenlea
OL - Flowers
4 Stars
QB - Ash
WR - Shipley
WR - Onyegbule
DE - Reed
FB - Bergeron
DB - Scott
OL - Cochrane
OL - Hutchins
TE - McFarland
LB/DE - Thompson
LB - Edmond
DB - Diggs
3 Stars
LB - Moss
OL - Doyle
DB - Thompson
Remaining Targets
RB - Brown - 5 stars
DB - Turner - 5 stars
DT - Russell - 4 stars
If the rankings for our current targets are correct, and half of the 5/4 star guys end up with 5 stars, that would give this class an average of 4.00 stars. To put that into context, Mack Brown has never had an average class that high at Texas (2nd would be 2010 at 3.92, followed by the vaunted 2002 class at 3.89 when Rivals gave out many more 5-stars). Add the 3 remaining targets and the average bumps up to 4.09.
One last point - if the above is anywhere near accurate then the three consecutive Texas recruiting classes 2009 - 2011 will be the highest 3 individual classes in the Mack Brown era (taking into account the change in # of stars after 2002).
Thoughts? Disagree on stars?
