Notables
M. Brown – 10
Westerman – 12
Edmond – 14
A. Green – 21
Metoyer – 24 (OU)
AS-J – 29
There are usually around 30 Five Star guys
Hegarty – 32
B. Williams – 38
Flowers – 47
Q. Diggs – 50
Sims – 53
Turner – 55
Desmond Jackson – 66
Quincy Russell – 79
12 guys from the state of Texas on this list, second to Florida with 20. Cali has 10.
Not surprising that there is no Charles Jackson on this list as the buzz on him is pretty new. But also no Sheroid Evans, no Garrett Greenlea, Anthony Wallace, or Cedric Reed. And it is odd not to see a QB from TX on this list for the second year in a row.
Jackson seems pretty low ranked. I wonder why? 5th rated DT nationally is nothing to sneeze at, but still.
I don’t know why, but it bothers me that they are not in the same place nationally that they are in the State ranking produced by OB….. that seems weird every time.
Other thoughts?

I agree about the weird lack of coordinated rankings with OB
How can the national ranking ignore the local rankings from the same site? I don’t get it either.
Jackson is rated the 10th best player in the state of Texas per Rivals, yet he is number 3 on OB. Also, Sheroid Evans is no. 2 on OB, but not even on the top 100. The recruiting sites really should get their act together. I know a lot of it is subjective, but be they could at least be consistent.
not weird
just indicative of the wide chasm between corporate rivals and its texas arm. has always been there, but seems to be growing. the chasm, not the arm.
for the record, i’ve always paid a lot more attention to ketch’s lists than how corporate handle texas kids. corporate strikes me as under-informed at the least and very possibly biased in some self-serving way.

Clowney...
pretty impressive film
At the moment he seems to be a bit slight of frame to play DE, but WOW does he move around impressively. Possibly more impressisve than Powell from last year. Looks like he could be a heck of a tight end if he wanted to.
Why would anyone expect Rivals to list Sheroid Evans in their top 100?
Those guys don’t even have him in their top 350 (or whatever number of prospects they have in their 250 watch list) which is ridiculous.
Which do you all trust the most: Texas’ evaluation of talent or Rivals’?
I’ll go with Texas’, which means taking Mychele(sp?) Thompson rather than Ladarius Brown, among other things.
IMHO
The Rivals national rankings get skewed for a number of reasons. For one, they are skewed because of camp visits. Obviously some kids get punished for not going to these camps and not to mention, don’t think for a second that Rivals doesn’t have some marketing deal with the camps so it only makes sense for them to bump somebody who performed at their camp. Secondly, without being too ridiculous, it is to their advantage to place recruits up higher that have not committed. It draws more traffic to the site to follow that kid.

right you are, coach
i think the sites have realized that it makes no difference whatever whether they are right or they are wrong. nobody calls them to task for the errors they make, so however they choose to warp the thing to their advantage, it benefits them with no danger of harming them.
my big worry here, though, is espn. espn is WAY too powerful as it is, and if the general public ever decides it is the espn list that counts—and every bad rivals list promotes this possibility—i think it will be a dark day for college football. right now i think espn wants to have the most accurate assessment they can generate, given how incredibly difficult the task is, but if they ever get the upper hand, it will be used to promote whatever espn wishes to promote. espn has no real interest, i think, beyond espn, and rivals seems hell-bent to give them the lead.

From an Amateur Viewpoint
I certainly am no expert analyzing film – but from all the highlight clips – Westerman looked like an elite 5 star talent to me. I just have not seen such consistency in drive blocking his man 10-15 yards and then pancaking him. Am I crazy or was this the best highlight film ever for an OL?
It probably would be
if it were Texas 5A film. But it is not. Still pretty incredible though. Definately a 5 star candidate going into Senior Year.

I did an Eval on him
a while back. He is one of the finest offensive line prospects I have seen in a while. Great feet and balance for a kid his age. Regardless of his opponents skill level he is an elite player.
