No BIG XII agression to expand ?!
Blame the lackluster aggressive style of the Big12 commissioner in allowing the demise of the conference. At rumors notice of hearing of Nebraska's, and Colorado's exit rather than try to apply a tourniquet and keep school's calm he should have caught their eye by taking action and proposing greener grass for those remaining.
Not having a chance of luring any currently happy PAC 10, SEC members the Big 12 should instead have quickly honed in on schools in a smaller yet attractive conference like the ACC. Shopping around and asking for interest in schools like traditionally basketball rich Duke, NC, Georgia Tech and former football powerhouses like Florida State, ad Miami I think would have been a good thing for the conference.
Giving Texas foothold in the football rich state of Florida would have been great. Rivalries in a conference with these specific ACC schools seems much more interesting than the 1/2 full stadiums and arenas in California in where pro sports not college is King! Plus having games slated across only one time zone vs 2 times zones makes much more sense. Unless a majority of the football & basketball games out west will be held in during the day...we'd be catching the games here at midnight...and what bars will be open that late, lol...jk
Dividing this dream conference up East & West would Still keep Texas & OU king in the west (with A&M having bolted to SEC) in Football and it would provide great interest in a basketball conference tourney with OU, KU, KState, OU, OKState & UT all having a tough battle in the west (Baylor, Tech the only gimmies) and with the East group a battle probably between the Tarhells, Yellow jackets and Bue Devils.
TV Market wise we'd gain Atlanta and the South East Florida area...not as lucrative as the sou Cal mrkt but enough to seem lucrative enough to keep current remaining Big 12 members (- A&M) from bolting left and right. Of course that leaves the (new) conference at 14 members (other ACC members left to join SEC or Big 10 or Big East)... is that enough to go-toe to toe with other forming mega conferences or what other 2 should be invited? hmm..

seems like a reasonable thought
but it looks like the big 12 has been more reactive than proactive in this whole conference realignment business. And I don’t know if adding basketball powerhouses like Duke and NC would even have been in the talking points in the meetings with the conference decision makers. I think that football is the main money maker, just an opinion stemming from all that I’ve read about conference realignment.
If you need two more go after Arkansas and LSU
"When you pass, three things can happen and two are bad", DKR, why he chose to run instead of pass.
and while your at it florida and alabama wouldnt hurt either.
the 10 we have now plus USC UCLA, Arkansas, LSU, alabama, and florida join us. We would like be the best confrence ever and best of all we would have(litterally) a coast to coast footprint.
