2010 NBA Draft Thread

UPDATE: Bradley goes to Celtics at 19.  James to Atlanta at 24 (then traded to Nets).  Big 12 dominating with first round selections from KU (2), UT (2), BU, OSU, & ISU.

UPDATE #2: While other Horns slipped slightly, Pittman jumps to the second pick in round 2.  Joins a Miami Heat team that should be a big player in free agency.

As many as three Longhorns could be picked...or as few as zero (but not fewer).  Damion James has been often predicted to go to the Spurs at 20.  Avery Bradley has been considered anywhere between the late Lottery to second rounder.  And many wonder if Dexter Pittman could continue to make leaps in his game as he did in Austin...

John Wall goes No. 1 to Washington.

Now that a Wimbledon match has produced a higher score than most WNBA games, feel free to spend your downtime here...

ESPN.com Insider Chad Ford's projections:

Rd1 #17. Damion James- “The Wizards will acquire this pick from the Chicago Bulls as part of the Kirk Hinrich deal. They have needs across their front line, and at this point in the draft James is the best prospect left on the board. He would bring some much-needed toughness and versatility to the team.”

Rd1 #19. Avery Bradley- "Danny Ainge has been shopping this pick, but if he stays here, Damion James, Eric Bledsoe, Solomon Alabi and Avery Bradley appear to be the front-runners. James, Bledsoe and Alabi are all off the board, leaving Bradley. The super-quick combo guard could spell Rajon Rondo at times, and would give them another dynamic scoring option in the backcourt. More importantly to Ainge, he’s the best talent left on the board. "

Rd2 #36 overall. Dexter Pittman- “The Pistons need a lot of help in the paint, and Pittman, if he ever got in shape, could make a huge impact in the middle for them. Trevor Booker is another possibility here.”

by Lincoln on Jun 24, 2010 6:42 PM CDT reply actions

SI.com Ian Thomsen's projections:

Rd1 #17. Damion James- “Bulls will be picking on behalf of Washington. This tweener forward from a major program will help fill out the Wizards frontcourt.”

Rd1 #25. Avery Bradley- “A pure deep shooter with potential to become a point guard (for the Grizzlies).”

[No Second Round projections.]

Tweet from @WojYahooNBA
With Boston trying to trade down from 19, Texas point guard Avery Bradley could drop in draft. Celtics wouldn’t have let him slip past 19.

Yahoo! Sports/The Sports Xchang Mike McGraw projections:

(Made prior to Chicago sending pick #17 to Washington)

Rd1 #22. Damion James- “(Blazers) Staying in school four years isn’t popular among draft candidates, but James stepped up as a senior to average 18 points and 10.3 rebounds. His life story is also impressive: He steered clear of trouble even while both his parents spent time in prison”

Rd2 #31 overall. Avery Bradley- “(Nets) The Tacoma, Wash., native was a touted recruit in high school but didn’t overwhelm as a freshman at Texas. He averaged 11.6 points, shot a bewildering 54.5 percent at the foul line and slumped late in the season. Will teams jump at the chance to draft a 6-2 shooting guard who wasn’t very accurate with his shot?”

Rd2 #46 overall. Dexter Pittman- "(Suns) Pittman reportedly weighed 388 pounds when he left high school. At the pre-draft camp, he was down to 303 pounds. His 6-11½ frame and 7-6 wingspan should draw some attention in the draft. He averaged 10.4 points as a senior and shot 65.4 percent from the field.

Is it just me

or is the NBA draft full of mostly no-names? I mean I casually follow college basketball up until the tourney which I watch almost all games but most of these players I’ve never heard of. On top of that, it seems like there is really only a few players here that will make an impact in the first year. It just seems like the basketball has taken a big dip to me.

When ESPN just showed the graphic about seniors being taken

It reminded me of two things:

1. Kids not making it all the way to their senior year is kind of discouraging.

2. Acie Law IV has been such a failure as I knew he would be.

I wasn't referring so much to the graduation aspect

I couldn’t agree more. I was mostly touching on the lack of development as a player. That is the biggest disappointment about college basketball to me now.

Avery Bradley Grew

ESPN listed him at 6’ 3" 1/4. Texas had him at 6’ 2". After attending just about every home game last season, I would have guessed AB was 6-1, maybe 6-2.

Big 12 after 20 picks

doing as well as any other conference:

Kansas: 2
Baylor: 1
Texas: 1
OSU: 1

Total: 5

Kentucky gives the SEC 4.

Excited about the James trade to NJ on two fronts.

First it keeps Crawford, a guard out of NJ and hopefully enhances the chances of AJ Abrams getting picked up by the Nets, with whom he will be playing summer league in the next few weeks.

Also how cool would it be for James and Abrams to play together in the NBA. At least they’ll get one more chance in the summer league.

Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman
