2010 NBA Draft Thread
UPDATE: Bradley goes to Celtics at 19. James to Atlanta at 24 (then traded to Nets). Big 12 dominating with first round selections from KU (2), UT (2), BU, OSU, & ISU.
UPDATE #2: While other Horns slipped slightly, Pittman jumps to the second pick in round 2. Joins a Miami Heat team that should be a big player in free agency.
As many as three Longhorns could be picked...or as few as zero (but not fewer). Damion James has been often predicted to go to the Spurs at 20. Avery Bradley has been considered anywhere between the late Lottery to second rounder. And many wonder if Dexter Pittman could continue to make leaps in his game as he did in Austin...
John Wall goes No. 1 to Washington.
Now that a Wimbledon match has produced a higher score than most WNBA games, feel free to spend your downtime here...

ESPN.com Insider Chad Ford's projections:
Rd1 #17. Damion James- “The Wizards will acquire this pick from the Chicago Bulls as part of the Kirk Hinrich deal. They have needs across their front line, and at this point in the draft James is the best prospect left on the board. He would bring some much-needed toughness and versatility to the team.”
Rd1 #19. Avery Bradley- "Danny Ainge has been shopping this pick, but if he stays here, Damion James, Eric Bledsoe, Solomon Alabi and Avery Bradley appear to be the front-runners. James, Bledsoe and Alabi are all off the board, leaving Bradley. The super-quick combo guard could spell Rajon Rondo at times, and would give them another dynamic scoring option in the backcourt. More importantly to Ainge, he’s the best talent left on the board. "
Rd2 #36 overall. Dexter Pittman- “The Pistons need a lot of help in the paint, and Pittman, if he ever got in shape, could make a huge impact in the middle for them. Trevor Booker is another possibility here.”
SI.com Ian Thomsen's projections:
Rd1 #17. Damion James- “Bulls will be picking on behalf of Washington. This tweener forward from a major program will help fill out the Wizards frontcourt.”
Rd1 #25. Avery Bradley- “A pure deep shooter with potential to become a point guard (for the Grizzlies).”
[No Second Round projections.]

Tweet from @WojYahooNBA
With Boston trying to trade down from 19, Texas point guard Avery Bradley could drop in draft. Celtics wouldn’t have let him slip past 19.

Yahoo! Sports/The Sports Xchang Mike McGraw projections:
(Made prior to Chicago sending pick #17 to Washington)
Rd1 #22. Damion James- “(Blazers) Staying in school four years isn’t popular among draft candidates, but James stepped up as a senior to average 18 points and 10.3 rebounds. His life story is also impressive: He steered clear of trouble even while both his parents spent time in prison”
Rd2 #31 overall. Avery Bradley- “(Nets) The Tacoma, Wash., native was a touted recruit in high school but didn’t overwhelm as a freshman at Texas. He averaged 11.6 points, shot a bewildering 54.5 percent at the foul line and slumped late in the season. Will teams jump at the chance to draft a 6-2 shooting guard who wasn’t very accurate with his shot?”
Rd2 #46 overall. Dexter Pittman- "(Suns) Pittman reportedly weighed 388 pounds when he left high school. At the pre-draft camp, he was down to 303 pounds. His 6-11½ frame and 7-6 wingspan should draw some attention in the draft. He averaged 10.4 points as a senior and shot 65.4 percent from the field.

The Kings just traded for Dalembert...
…I don’t think I would’ve went Cousins. I would’ve went Monroe from Gtown
Confirmed. Highest pick in Baylor history.
Began career at Michigan before transferring. Apparently told Tom Osborne losts of nice things about the Big Ten.
Calipari on Cousins:
“My wife thought (Cousins) was HER son.”
Maury Povich could have put an end to that misconception.

Cue clip of Texas getting scored on
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
this is gonna sound horrible..
..but why am I not surprised that Utah (Jerry Sloan) “reaches” with the white dude?

How is it racist?
Its just an observation…as well as a statement of fact.

Paul George-2nd team All-WAC..
…one of the things I don’t like the NBA draft. Too much on potential. shrugs
Aldrich
I don’t see how he can keep up with OKC’s pace. Hope they deal him.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
but OKC just acquired him...
they want him. badly need his size and rebounding

Is it just me
or is the NBA draft full of mostly no-names? I mean I casually follow college basketball up until the tourney which I watch almost all games but most of these players I’ve never heard of. On top of that, it seems like there is really only a few players here that will make an impact in the first year. It just seems like the basketball has taken a big dip to me.

Where are the international picks?
I guess they’re already scouted and signed.

Most must enter via draft. But too many have opted to stay with club teams in the past.
See: Rubio, Splitter, etc.
Rockets reportedly will take Patterson

When ESPN just showed the graphic about seniors being taken
It reminded me of two things:
1. Kids not making it all the way to their senior year is kind of discouraging.
2. Acie Law IV has been such a failure as I knew he would be.
"I want to be remembered as the guy who gave his all whenever he was on the field."

I wasn't referring so much to the graduation aspect
I couldn’t agree more. I was mostly touching on the lack of development as a player. That is the biggest disappointment about college basketball to me now.
"I want to be remembered as the guy who gave his all whenever he was on the field."

I think Jon Barry said it perfectly
Players aren’t drafted on what they have done anymore but just on potential.

Kevin Durant is being interviewed by Heather Cox (about Aldrich)
Someone apparently stole KD’s left sleve
Just an elusion apparently
The sleeve I saw was some person sitting in front of him.
But yes, my “e” left early due to bad advice from his agent.
Both Bradley and James have been projected here at 19 to Celtics
…who haven’t been able to trade out of it
Best available - all Big XII
Anderson, James, Bradley

Avery Bradley Grew
ESPN listed him at 6’ 3" 1/4. Texas had him at 6’ 2". After attending just about every home game last season, I would have guessed AB was 6-1, maybe 6-2.

Big 12 after 20 picks
doing as well as any other conference:
Kansas: 2
Baylor: 1
Texas: 1
OSU: 1
Total: 5
Kentucky gives the SEC 4.
Shit, James is falling
Craig Brackins from ISU goes over him!

Don’t understand why Damion James is slipping. Portland should take him here at 22. They liked him. Problem is they have Gomes+Babbitt.

Wow, Eliott Williams at 22
this is a really weak draft class, and James is still on the board.

According to Jon Berry,
Brandon Roy and KD couldn’t possibly have played on the same team. Huh? I guess I just don’t understand the NBA.

My guess is he’ll join Bradley in Boston. Celtics lost Kendrick Perkins in the Finals to a pretty bad knee injury, not sure if he’ll be ready for next season.

Lots of Big 12 players still out there
Willie Warren, Tiny Gallon, Sherron Collins, Tommy Mason-Griffin, Denis Clemente, Dexter Pittman, Obi Munelo, Bryan Davis, Donald Sloan
Most of those probably won’t hear their name called.

or you let Anderson play with Tim and Tony for kick out J's
and then have Manu, Hill and Blair on the 2nd team. Down the stretch you choose between Jefferson or Anderson on who plays with the Manu, Tony and Tim.
Even with Stuart Scott, 4 analysts for NBA Draft > 34 analysts for NFL Draft.
Bilas could perhaps be used more, but Jon Barry has been on point.
didn't know that..

5 First Rd Draft Picks
and still didn’t make the Final Four.
When we bitch, me included, about not making it Final Fours or cutting down the nets, think about last year’s Kentucky team.
--AW--
But this wasn't Rick's first year at Texas
(FWIW, I’d rather have RB than Calipari and the sanctions that will follow.)
they were all freshmen at least minus patterson
When we bitch about last year, we should think about last year’s Kansas team.
NORTHERN. IOWA.
Will any players from that team even get drafted?
by goingforthecorner on Jun 24, 2010 9:25 PM CDT up reply actions
Dear SEC,
Kentucky has had a record 5 first rounders in this draft. That now gives your conference a grand total of 5 first rounders in 2010.
dude
Kentucky is owning…..but the Big 12 does look like a solid conference (even without Nebraska and Colorado)
losing CU and NU
is addition by subtraction in basketball.

Nevada (2) now with as many picks as Pac-10 and Big 10 and non-KU SEC combined
But WAC (3) has more.
Knicks fans very knowledgeable...
Boo the selection of Rautins until they find out he played for Syracuse.
Then they booed Fields.
I’m curious as to who they wanted. Seriously, who HAVE you heard of at this point NYC?
Luckily for Damion James,
It’s Damion JONES who is traded to Nets according to NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver.
whew, that was close.
seriously though, I think the Nets are headed in the right direction. They have a lot of young talent.
How much would it suck to be drafted during a commercial break?
The biggest moment of your life, all your friends/family/fans watching, and YOU don’t even get to hear your name called.
I would love to be drafted during a commercial break
Cause it would mean I’ve been drafted.
Excited about the James trade to NJ on two fronts.
First it keeps Crawford, a guard out of NJ and hopefully enhances the chances of AJ Abrams getting picked up by the Nets, with whom he will be playing summer league in the next few weeks.
Also how cool would it be for James and Abrams to play together in the NBA. At least they’ll get one more chance in the summer league.
Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman
Poor OU, Gallon just drafted and Willie Warren still available
Also, OU was eliminated today in the College World Series after a 3-2 loss to S. Carolina in the 12th inning.

Finally
Luke Harangody will no longer be a preseason All-American, top 15 NBA prospect heading in to a new season. I swear that guy has been playing college for 8 years minimum.
Fitting
that the Irish player named Harangody goes to the Celtics. <3 Luke…we’ll desparately miss you!
Never ask a man if he's from Texas. If he is, he'll tell you soon enough. If he's not, don't embarrass him.
Talk about failure

TMG drafted #256 by the Manchurian Munchkins of the ’I’m too short to play NBA ball’ league to play the post position. TMG quoted as saying “if they just get ME the ball I can score”. But seriously, spots for a Nate Robinson type player are few and far between in the NBA. He’ll have a tough road to get there.
