More Malcolm Brown News
"The two remaining uncommitted five-star prospects are Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra wide receiver George Farmer and Cibolo (Texas) Steele running back Malcolm Brown. Farmer is considered a near-lock for USC, with Oregon, Florida, Miami and Alabama rounding out his top five. Brown is a huge Texas lean, followed by Florida State, Oklahoma and the Tide.
Alabama has little to no shot at either prospect, but it is impressive that the Tide is involved with every uncommitted five-star player left on the board."

Thank God,
I was worried that Alabama’s running attack would make him go there. I guess staying close to home is important

Great news. Recently, nothing but positive news on Malcolm Brown
Mr. Brown seems like an intelligent kid with a good head on his shoulders. It sounds like his trip to the 40 this week was purely for academics. This certainly garners respect.
I’m not going to bad mouth ‘Bama as a university, but this is the institution that delayed a SEMESTER for a football game. You would never see that at UT. We didn’t even get a travel day for Easter while I was in school quite recently.
Professors holding classes at UT on OU Weekend Friday is a whole tread on to itself. Texas obviously takes academics very seriously, and Bama not as much.
Texas and Bama both will get Malcolm into the league. Savior at Texas or the guy that came right after Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson? Combined with the hour drive from home, this is an easy decision that I would like to see made soon. Hook ‘em. Can’t wait to see Malcolm and GG together in 2011.

Im not sure....
… about these ‘we know what is going to happen’ recruiting analysts. Most of the information they put out there is kind of BS, and shots in the air like you or I would take.
Getting it from the horse’s mouth is what matters. And last I checked, Malcolm said to a SA newspaper that UT and Bama were the two leaders.
So lets stick to that.
These guys come out and say stuff and its mostly fluff. They need the hits to get the dough and so they do so. NO WHERE has he justified how he knows Bama is out. These empty statements really piss me off since its not journalism, its speculation. Its amazing that most people dont call BS to these kind of unjustified statements.
You guys think the writer knows better than Malcolm himself?
Sorry for the rant, I might have gone overboard :)

Positive thoughts, but yeah I agree.
I’m not sure why Malcolm Brown would say that Bama and UT are his co leaders to the Express News, while all the experts say he’s a strong to very strong Texas lean.
I don’t want to speculate either, but it is nice to have options. If Malcolm indicated his commitment to Texas was a done deal, then Alabama backs off and focuses all of its energies on Isaiah Crowell. Any school would definitely take both backs, but Malcolm probably won’t go to Bama if they secure the committment of another blue chip back.
Straight from the horse’s mouth is the best source, but sometimes the source isn’t going to tell you everything.

well..
…all the outside experts said Jordan Hicks was a huge OSU lean last year, and luckily they were wrong. Let’s hope they’re not this time.

Great point. Jeffcoat is another example.
The kid never said one word about which direction he was leaning. Experts correctly predicted Jeffcoat without really ever interviewing him.

The opposite is also true
Ryan P. swore publicly he was all UT up to just before signing day. The recruiting services all said he’d make a last minute switch and were right.
A few other tidbits from that article:
The first two don’t sound like good news for the Horns.
Austin (Texas) High wide receiver Cayleb Jones, a 2012 prospects, took recent visits to Miami and North Carolina, and was blown away by the Hurricanes. One of the top prospects for his class in Texas, Jones does not have any connection to the Texas Longhorns, so he isn’t a lock to stay home. Texas is among his favorites, but he lives in Austin mainly because his father, former NFL linebacker Robert Jones, played for the Cowboys for many years. Jones’ dad was coached by Miami head man Randy Shannon as well as North Carolina’s Butch Davis, so a connection is in place at both schools. Jones is hoping to make an early decision.
Speaking of LSU and cornerbacks, Carrollton (Texas) Hebron’s David Jenkins could commit to LSU next week at camp.
Dallas Smith tight end Chris Barnett has Arkansas and Oklahoma high on his list, but the Sooners aren’t really recruiting him that hard. Barnett apparently is interested in Miami now after playing against a lot of south Florida prospects at the Badger Sports 7-on-7 who were talking up the ’Canes. He could take an official visit to Miami sometime during or after the season, and he likes the tight end tradition in Coral Gables.
Is it just me or are the Canes revving up their engines a bit as of late?
Seems like they are garnering more attention from across the nation Seantrell Henderson aside.

Their name is appearing more but they haven't landed a big fish
in Texas since the 5-star OT from at least 4 years ago that turned out to be a bust. Head to heads recently with UT include Josh Turner, Quincy Russell and Eryon Barnett.
By the way
The Jesus over at Recruitocosm has bumped Malcolm Brown’s odds of committing to 100%. Bad news on Rasco and Aaron Green, though.

Really like Recruitocosm. Seem to have their finger on the pulse of Texas recruiting.

I don't see how there is any way
that someone could believe Brown is 100% ready to commit to Texas. Maybe a couple weeks ago, but not now.

Well he better have a dang good source,
otherwise he loses a lot of credibility if he’s wrong. For his and Texas’ running game sake I hope he’s right.
Sports is man's joke on God, You see, God says to man, 'I've created a universe where it seems like everything matters, where you'll have to grapple with life and death and in the end you'll die anyway, and it won't really matter.' So man says to God, 'Oh, yeah? Within your universe we're going to create a sub-universe called sports, one that absolutely doesn't matter, and we'll follow everything that happens in it as if it were life and death.'" - Sam Kellerman

All of the supposed insiders and those with SA connections
all are still very, very positive he commits to UT.
Let them be hooked.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.
